Idonea castle Idonea castle was built in the late 1300s. By a King only known as *Black* he ruled with a fist hand and a strong heart. Many battles did he win against rivaling nations. His rein lasted for many many years. Until the day he died on his death bed. Leaving no heir to his throne. The nation went into fighting amongst one another, until one day they just gave up. The castle laid in ruins until the year 1700. There is was bought and re stored to its natural glory. To get to the castle one needs to walk across the stone bridge that will lead along a dirt path. The castle is surrounded by many tree's and a forest that is to the side of the castle, green lushes grass is just below the bridge. The visitor will walk right up to the castle doors, where one will be greeted into the foray by one of the many servants. Then they will be led to the great hall. The great hall is were all the important meetings and banquets took place. Everyone would met there and would eat the meals that were brought out at the long tables. Family and important guests would sit at the high table. Banquets were served by the servants who would attend to each guest and family that attend such events. The kitchens were built in the keep but in most castles the kitchens were in buildings outside in the bailey. The kitchens were large and they had large fireplaces over which all the food was cooked. This included whole oxen or pigs which were roasted on spits over the open fires. Vegetables and stews would be cooked in large pots over the fires and they would have baked a lot of bread. The food and drink used in the castle would have been supplied fresh from the surrounding land but anything that needed to be stored was kept in store rooms. Stored rooms can commonly be found on the lowest floor of the keep. Because the walls of the keep at its base are at their thickest and the windows are only small slits that let little light in the rooms at the base of the keep were kept cool even in summer. Also, because the main entrance to the keep was on a higher floor, there was no access to the store room from outside the keep and this helped protect the supplies. Well's where constructed with in the castle wall's and outside of the castle walls. The stables were also kept with in the castle walls. To be sure the horse's were kept safe and well taken care of. Garderobes were used with in the castle, mostly holes that where constructed in the floor that emptied through passages in the walls out into the moat or ditch. Other rooms are within the castle, which would be the sleep quarters of the family which would be on the second floor of the castle. The quest quarters would be on the third floor. All rooms were equipped with their own fire place, as well as a garder robes and own bath area. The other important rooms such as the Throne room, the official dining room, ball room, library and parlor would all be on the first floor of the castle. A small regiment can be assembled with in the walls. It is nine hundred feet for the barracks and half that for the armory and the forge is about ten by twelve. The garden is located just behind the Castle its self. A lush surrounding of different varieties of plants and flowers can be seen. When one enters the garden they will walk under a wooden trellis that is adorned with various veins there are several benches one can sit at.. A dirt path leads all in different directions. |
