"It was the duty of a Knight to learn how to fight and so serve their Lord according to the Code of Chivalry. The Code of Chivalry dictated that a Knight should be brave and fearless in battle but would also exhibit cultured Knightly qualities showing themselves to be devout, courteous and generous. Weapon practice included enhancing skills in the two-handed sword, battle axe, mace, dagger and lance. A Knight would be expected to guard the Castle and support his liege lord in Medieval warfare." Before becoming a King he would be brought to the throne room and asked to kneel before the Monarch, the Monarch would then use his sword and tapping him first on the right of his shoulder then to his left, then his right once more. The crown would be given and placed onto his head. Then he would be asked to rise. "Do you swear to up hold all laws and rules. And to govern your lands with a swift hand. And to rule wisely." |
