Nero didn't usually stay in towns for very long, which is why he had returned to Esprit Forest. It was more-or-less peaceful here, and even though it wasn't his real home, it at least served the same purpose. As his pawsteps continued to crunch through the light sprinkle of snow, cyan blue eyes flitted from sight to sight. He was in his Zorua form, for he had chosen to take this moment of solitude as an opportunity to relax, which meant he wouldn't parade around behind an illusion. Unfortunately though, his time alone was soon cut short, for a voice cried out in fright. At first the Zorua froze in place, one paw in the air, and then he bolted to one side, making it a point to duck behind a thick tree to hide. To make sure he remained hidden, he threw up an illusion of being part of the tree. The Pokemon sat there, eyes darting from side to side in wary search of the source of that voice, but nothing else happened in the otherwise undisturbed forest. After a short while, he decided that he was safe, but he refused to move anywhere just yet. Nero would remain in place and patiently watch for signs of life, for he knew he wasn't truly alone. It wasn't long before he spotted a few Tiny Birds flutter onto the branches above him, the Pidgeys unaware of his presence below. The pair remained only long enough to resume building the half-finished nest of theirs; they soon flew off to collect more twigs and other nesting goods. Not long after that, he noticed a few butterflies flutter by, one or two a Butterfree and the others a Beautifly each. Just like the Pidgeys, these Pokemon didn't notice Nero, and the Zorua smiled, quite proud of his skill with illusions. He was feeling much more confident now, and because of this renewal in confidence, the young fox resumed his stroll through the forest. By doing so, he removed the illusion of a tree from around him. Once again, the Pokemon felt relaxed enough to enjoy his solitude. Here in the forest, there was no reason to be worried about humans finding him. He was free to be himself, which meant he would search for somewhere that was somewhat populated. As soon as he found a place, he would search for somewhere to relax unnoticed so he could just Poke-watch. However, his thoughts were interrupted once more, and by the same voice at that. This time he didn't panic, for he was sure the voice sounded too scared to be dangerous. Whatever was happening needed to stop, and although Nero wasn't the most willing to interact with others, he found that others were simply ignoring the cries. Apparently this wasn't unusual to the forest inhabitants, and this bothered the child fox; where was the nurturing of parents? When he was a baby pup, his mother had soothed his nerves after a nightmare, and then his father had followed that up by playing with him. Whatever was wrong, he decided he would make it his business to solve. |

As the pup cried out in her sleep, seemingly all alone, a Mightyena was pounding the forest floor to return to her child's side, knowing that tonight, like every other night, her daughter would be suffering nightmares. However, her nature and vision ensured that the best hunting was to be done at night, and so she found she was constantly having to choose between making sure her small family had enough to eat for the next day, and being by Hina's side while she cried in her sleep. For obvious reasons, however painful the choice, she had gone with the former, but tonight the pup's cries had been so loud that they had startled the Deerling she had been stalking, and instead she had returned swiftly home, paws empty. Once back, she swept the area for intruders but found nothing particularly out of the ordinary. The forest was alive with sounds and scents, which made it especially hard to discern if there was any strange activity going on right now. What would even cause a Poochyena to suffer nightmares every single night? And poor Hina always seemed so horribly weak the morning after. A pain rose in the pit of her stomach when she recalled that she had not brought her daughter any food for the next morning. Her ears twitched. She had yet to try a bluff. <I know you're there,> she growled finally, unable to take another second. <You damned pranksters. Leave her alone!> The last phrase was snarled with such ferocity that the Poochyena appeared to jerk momentarily from her sleep, as the desperate, frightened wailing stopped just for a moment. There was a pause as the forest was still, and the Mightyena's face froze in its snarl as she waited, but whatever was causing the youngster's anguish began once again, and her whimpers echoed in the small cave. The Mightyena caught a whiff of an intruder, finally, on the wind and she leapt like a spring to the source of it, landing after only a few paces right in front of the child Zorua. She stuck her snout in his face and snorted pure fury. <Who sent you here, cub?> she growled, hackles raised and hair on end, this time taking care not to raise her voice enough to wake her child, even if it meant rousing her from her bad dreams. <Are you the reason behind Hina's nightmares? I know it's a pokemon. It hurts her. Do you think it's funny?> She pulled back and growled again, this time to herself. <Whoever is doing it will pay, I know that for certain.>

When the small fox heard a furious snarl some distance away, Nero froze again. That wasn't at all friendly, and for a second, he wondered if the whimpering from before had just been a play. It wouldn't surprise him, not if he really thought about it, because Pokemon were always going after one another, similar to humans. Before he could decide whether or not he should turn around and leave, his ears twitched as they caught the familiar whimper of fright. Once again the Zorua found himself hesitate as he tried to make a decision: it was check on the frightened Pokemon and try to comfort it, or check on the frightened Pokemon and end up as dinner. Apparently the decision was made for him, for a Mightyena abruptly burst from a nearby home that he had failed to notice sooner. The wolf's sudden appearance startled Nero which caused him to stumble back in startled fear. The larger Dark-type's questions greatly confused Nero, though he didn't dare utter a sound until the Mightyena finally pulled back to mutter something to herself. Without meaning to, Nero let out a squeak; if there was ever a sign that he was socially inept, then his pathetic response was certainly a large, neon sign. But he couldn't help it, for he wasn't used to actually talking to others, let alone intimidating creatures like this obvious mother. Still, he did his best, and so he cleared his throat to try again. 'I- uh, I mean... well, no? Who is Hina?' His voice was small, revealing just how little confidence he had in himself, but there was as much sincerity in it as there was fear in his cyan blue eyes. 'Erm, what I mean is... have you... have you asked Hina? About the source of the nightmares, I mean.' That seemed to be all he had, for his throat seemed to dry up, forcing him to swallow a lump in his throat. If ever there was a time when Nero wanted his own parents around, then now was such a time. Unfortunately though, he was without either parent, and because of this, he reminded himself to be strong. His father was always strong, and his mother always told him to be as relentless as the Absol. After he took a deep breath, Nero stood to his full, proud height, and attempted to lock gazes with the Mightyena. He managed it only a few seconds before he felt his poor socializing ability perk up, which caused him to turn his attention to the hidden home. 'I'll take care of the problem, if I can.' |

The Mightyena was a mother before she was a predator, and so she noticeably softened when the Zorua showed signs of youth and vulnerability that reminded her of her own pups. There was something in the young Dark type's frightened manner that allowed her to attempt to trust him. Although she would continue to be on her guard, she found it charming that the nervous fox pokemon had offered to help her. "That would ... yes, that would be very kind of you, Zorua," she relented, tilting her head as if to apologise for her earlier aggression. She was sure, however, that he would understand. "My name is Cara. My daughter, Hina, is the butt of some undeserved cruelty, and I would love to help her but I cannot find whoever is doing it. They have always gone by the time I return from my hunt," she attempted to explain, head hanging low. It was a source of terrible conflict to her. She needed the time at night to hunt so that Hina would have food when she woke up - she was always just so weak when she arose. It meant, however, that she was not present to protect her child from the attackers. "She believes it's a pair of Munna who live in this forest, though why she thinks that I do not know." She looked at Nero hard for a while, and then her ears twitched as she had an idea. "All I need is an extra set of paws and jaws, actually," she said. "Either I hunt or I protect her. I need to do both but I cannot. If you were to do one, I would do the other, and my problems would be solved." Excitement lit up her eyes as she looked onto the Zorua for his reply.

When Cara softened up from before, Nero felt his tense body relax considerably, though he was still quite nervous about being in the Mightyena's presence. He didn't know what Pokemon this was, there was a lot he didn't know, but he knew that a mother would go the distance for her children. His own mother had literally run a long distance to get him here in the forest, and he felt obligated to assist this wolf and her cub. After Cara thanked him, and then explained everything, the Zorua blinked in surprise. It took a moment, but he managed to introduce himself as Nero, though he wasn't sure if the Mightyena had heard him. The fully grown Dark-type had eyed him for a long moment before he attempted naming himself, so he was pretty sure his voice had been a bit of a squeak again. Not long after this, the Pokemon revealed a choice of how Nero could be of assistance. His options weren't very open, seeing as how he was skilled at neither. The fox's attempts at hunting were always below-par compared to what he observed from those times when he watched predators stalk prey, and he's never before had he been tasked to protect another. That meant fighting, which meant confrontation, and this meant more socializing. Neither option sounded very appealing, but he came to soothe the unsettled. "I'll watch over Hina," managed the Tricky Fox after he swallowed a lump in his throat. "I don't hunt great, but I think I can protect her." Nero was determined to do his part for this mother and child pair, and if that meant confronting a Munna or two, then he would do it. It didn't matter to him that he had no idea what he was up against, so long as he could help. "You can count on me." If Nero thought about it, then this probably was the better choice for him. He wasn't the fastest around, and certainly not the strongest, but he could still apply his Hiding and Searching skills. By hiding nearby, he would be able to observe his surroundings to find the source of his charge's problems. The Zorua wasn't confident about what he would do after figuring this out, but he was hoping it wouldn't end up in a battle. Still, if that was the only solution, then he would just have to go for it, and hope for the best. |

So far, everything seemed peaceful. Nero was nestled in the darkness provided by the leaves that surrounded him, for he was up in a nearby tree, watching. Of course, as a cautious Pokemon, he had thrown up an illusion around himself so no one would actually notice his outline in the foliage. As cyan blue eyes scanned the forest floor, the Zorua found nothing to be wrong, and this felt like trickery, similar to his Illusion, only not as natural. Then he heard it: Hina's quiet whimpering as the Poochyena's dreams were pushed aside to be replaced by Nightmares. The Munna were back, it seemed, and it was up to Nero to search for them. Observant eyes scanned the fox's surroundings before he carefully shifted into a standing position. From here, the Dark-type quietly moved from branch to branch until, at last, he spotted a movement from the corner of his eye. Nero froze, for he dared not turn his head to search out the shadow. Instead, he chose to wait to spot the shadow a second time, and when he noticed it again, he slowly turned his attention to it. Once again he noticed a movement from the corner of his eye, and as he continued to look around, turning only his head, he found he could guess where the shadows would move next. Finally, he discovered where the Munna were hiding, for the shadows had met at least three times in the same spot. Nero wasn't an expert at tracking, but he at least understood how to put his searching skill to good use. Still, he needed to make sure that he hadn't followed the wrong trail, and to do this, he chose to slink back into the shadows of the night to hide. Once in the shadows, his ears twitched as he heard Hina's whimpering escalate. The Tricky Fox silently called to his mother, his stationary mother, and requested for the Zoroark's guidance. He would Search the bush for the pair of Munna, and hope that he was right. If not, and it turned out that he noticed a different Pokemon, then he hoped his Hiding skill would protect him. Most importantly, however, was the idea that he wouldn't catch anyone's attention, for he was sneaking around, and sneaking around was his specialty. The child took a deep, quiet breath before he willed himself to take the risk. This was for Hina and the Poochyena's mother, Cara. This was for the family that he would never be part of, but would always respect simply because it was a family. Suddenly more determined, the Zorua stepped forth and dared to peek around one of the three trees that he guessed the Munna had chosen as their hiding place. |

The two Munna in the tree, Kale and Ali, were watching Hina whimper with delight, glancing to each other with amusement shining in their eyes. They tried not to make any noise, but quiet giggles were unable to be suppressed. The two of them seemed to be taking turns in inflicting the Nightmares, each one seeming worse than the one before, judging by Hina's reactions. It seemed to be a game between the two, a way of competing to see who could come up with the scariest Nightmares. It was the easiest way to hone an attack they would otherwise not learn until they were much older, and was fun, too! The smaller of the two Munna's eyes were currently glowing an eerie purple color as she controlled the pup's dreams. The Poochyena whined and whimpered in fear, twitching and curling into a tight ball. The Pokemon seemed to be weakening as the Nightmare took its toll, and likewise, the Ali seemed to be glowing with health. She glanced to the other Munna, her older brother, and waited for his approval and praise at inflicting such a horrific Nightmare that the poor puppy was crying in her sleep. Next to her, Kale, who seemed to be able to see exactly what his sister was creating, frowned before nodding his head in approval. He looked down at the sleeping Poochyena with a grin on his features. He tried to remain silent, but a quiet chuckle gave away his position. As his sister's eyes faded along with the Nightmare she was manipulating, his eyes began to glow as he inflicted a new one. This time, Hina yelped in her sleep, louder than she had been yet. The two Psychics seemed completely unaware of the fact that Nero was on their trail, trying to track them down.
The Munna siblings didn't realize Nero had been at the foot of their tree until it was too late. They had been seen! The Pokemon glanced to each other, eyes wide in their start, before Kale glared down at the Zorua. <What do you want, mutt? Get lost!> he cried out, levitating down to Nero's level. The older brother was quite large for his species and, when compared to Nero, was actually a few inches larger. The Pokemon glared at him, meeting cyan eyes without fear. He was bluffing, but would Nero know that? He was banking on Nero being frightened of his size and his pink demeanor, and... Who was he kidding? He was certain that this would end in a battle. After all, what Dark-type in its right mind could take a male Munna seriously? The fact that the older brother was pink and floral-patterned made seemed to contradict the tough attitude. He sneered down at Nero, daring the Dark-type to start something. He was painfully aware, however, that his Psychic-type moves would be useless, and thus, the battle may be difficult. He huffed a bit, pushing out his chest and attempting to look larger and more threatening to the Zorua than a pink tapir-like Pokemon probably was.

He had done it; he found the two Munna that dared pick on an innocent child! As far as the Zorua could tell, it seemed the two Psychic-types were treating Hina's pain as a game, and this irritated the small fox. Still, Nero was delighted with his success, and this was apparently his second mistake of the night. Nero had made a bit of noise, and because of this, he had been spotted by the two Munna, one notably larger than the other. The larger Munna floated down to his level and revealed itself to be male, or that was what Nero assumed since he was judging by the Pokemon's voice. It was clearly large, possibly even larger than himself; it was obvious that he was already put off by the Pokemon's size. The fact that Dark-type and Psychic-type had locked gazes didn't help Nero at all, and the Pokemon bit his tongue to keep from squeaking in fright. The last thing he wanted was a repeat of his initial encounter with Cara. It was the thought of Cara that motivated the Zorua to straighten, for he had promised the Mightyena that he would do his part in all of this. Perhaps he could make a hunt out of these Munna, just to further please the canine? 'Why don't you get lost?' growled the Tricky Fox as he narrowed his cyan blue eyes in a manner that was equally bluffing. 'Or do you two want to become the next meal?' He hoped that the two would just buzz off like that, for he wasn't sure if he could actually take the two on. As it happened, Nero had been permanently separated from his family before he could have learned to the idea of type advantages, and just as importantly, what Pokemon to fear and what not to fear. Because of this, Nero was cautious towards all Pokemon, more-so towards those that he had never encountered before. Like this, the Zorua had no idea that he would have the advantage in battle, even if there were two Munna against his lonely self. Since he didn't know to think on any of this, his mind focused on the idea of what would happen to him if he failed to scare the two away. Would he have to battle? He rarely battled, and it was a miracle that he had even reached level five on his own. What attack would be the best to start with? Nero knew his attacks by heart at this point, and he knew what each was capable of, too. Thanks to this knowledge, he decided he would enhance his words by flashing a Leer at the pair. If this was only to provoke the two Munna into attacking, then he would try to dodge as best he could before he would attempt to Scratch the larger Munna. Father, thought the child fox in a voice of desperation, give me strength! |

With Nero snapping back, Ali glanced back to her brother, a fretful expression on her features. Her carmine eyes shone in fear. What were they to do? The younger Munna had drifted down to where her brother was just moments prior to the Leer. The Zorua was ready to fight, from what she could tell, but her brother would be unable to battle at all. After all, the only offensive move the two of them had mastered was Psywave, and that was always unpredictable... A moment later, her eyes widened in realization. "Kale... Wh-What about daddy's move--" she began saying, only to gasp when Nero Leered at her big brother. The Leer seemed frightening to her, causing her to flinch back, drifting a few inches further away from Nero. Kale seemed to realize her sister's discomfort, quickly moving himself in between Ali and Nero. He glared, giving no indication of hearing his sister, nor was he giving any hint to what their "daddy's move" was. The most that could be determined was that it was an Egg Move. "So you wanna play tough, huh?" Kale taunted, drifting closer to Nero in an attempt to frighten him. Perhaps if he could seem tough enough, they would avoid the entire situation taking a turn for the worst. "I'm... I'm not afraid of you!" His voice grew louder as he spoke, trying to appear intimidating. Ali frowned, looking around in fright. She was hoping and praying to Arceus that they wouldn't wake anything in the forest that could be more dangerous than a Zorua. That was, until a scary thought drifted across her mind. Zoroark are insanely protective of their young. With a gasp, this sudden realization sunk in, causing her to frown and look at her brother. A Zoroark could easily shred the two of them to pieces in seconds. What would that do for them? Was this game really worth the risk? She faltered for a moment, debating to tell her brother just to back off and let this whole thing end. Unfortunately for her, however, her brother chose then to instigate a battle. The Pokemon began to glow white before a barrage of stars flew forward to strike Nero with perfect accuracy. The Swift was his Egg Move, coming from his father being a Sandslash. Kale laughed as the move struck Nero, dealing 5 damage.
Unfortunately for Kale, however, this was quickly responded to with a Scratch that raked across his side, scraping against the vulnerable flesh. It didn't do too much damage, however, much to his relief, but it still hurt! He drifted back a few inches, glaring daggers at Nero as he watched warily. "And you wanted to make me your next meal?! Attacking like that won't accomplish anything good!" he scoffed, trying to play it off as if he were stronger than he actually was.
Ali, meanwhile, was reluctant to get involved. She curled up, using Defense Curl from her position, frightened of the whole situation. The last thing she wanted to do was fight... Especially if a big, scary Zoroark could come and eat them for hurting her baby! She had heard tons of stories about bad situations where baby Zorua were endangered and the mothers were absolutely ruthless. That thought caused her to shiver and tighten up even more in her Defense Curl. ![]() Nero Level 5 ![]() HP: 8/13EV:+1Sp.Atk Status: Unchanged ![]() ![]() Kale Level 8 ![]() HP: 12/16 EV:+1HP Status: -1 Def ![]() Ali Level 3 ![]() HP: 10/10 EV: +1HP Status: +1 Def

Nero glowered when he found himself in a match of "who could look tougher", though he was certain that it was just that: a contest to look better than the other. Unfortunately though, there was no one to back up the lonely Zorua; not unless Hina woke up, or Cara suddenly returned to save the night. These bullies had each other, even if the smaller one appeared less than willing to join this inevitable battle. As the Zorua thought of this, the elder Munna launched a series of Swift stars in his direction, and the Dark-type found himself struck by all five of the stars. He recognized this attack, and due to the recollection of it, Nero reminded himself that his opponent would never miss if Swift was chosen every time. This meant only one thing: Nero would undoubtedly lose if he didn't strike; his first choice was against his instinct, as it was a Scratch attack. Much to his irritation though, the Normal-type move appeared to do little to nothing on the Munna, especially if it was compared to the pain that he himself felt. As if to rub it in his face, the Munna gloated about how Nero's effort was pathetic; this infuriated the normally meek Tricky Fox, and his cyan eyes narrowed dangerously, quite a surprise change considering how he disliked confrontations. It seemed the Zorua would allow for his instincts to take over, and the first step was to proudly lift his head. "I meant to warn you," bluffed the child fox as resumed his Leer from earlier. "But you leave me with no choice!" With that said, his volume raised a bit in mild hope that someone nearby would come to his aid, Nero lunged at Kale, body glowing a dark, ominous color as he performed Pursuit. The male Munna had failed to try anything after taunting him, so Nero decided that he would just have to fill in the time with an attack of his own. "Mother will be pleased with this meal!" He didn't know where that nonsense came from, seeing as how his mother had stopped moving that fateful day some months ago, but the Pokemon felt this to be true. In fact, Nero believed that even his father would be proud of him for fighting these Pokemon despite his disadvantages. If he was just a little more aware of what it was like after life, then perhaps he would have known that his parents were watching over him, truly guiding him. There wasn't much the parents could do about his strength, but they could at least try to urge him on. |

Kale scoffed haughtily, loath to admit that he actually was frightened of what the Zorua was capable of doing. Ignoring the Leer's effect, he raised his head slightly, trying to appear taller once again, while looking down at Nero. "Warn me? You were warning me?" he chuckled incredulously. If he had had an eyebrow, it would've been raised in dismissive amusement. "Let me tell you something, little baby. You're pathetic and weak and--" "Brother!!" Ali interjected in an astonished tone, quickly uncurling from her Defensive position. She shook her head, quickly looking at Nero and trying to defuse the situation. "H-He didn't mean it, honest..." she tried to apologize, looking down at the Zorua from her position hovering about a foot in the air. "H-he's harmless, r-really--" she began, only to gasp in surprise when the Pursuit was launched at her big brother.
Kale never had the chance to react; quickly thrown backwards by a very painful and very effective attack. The larger Munna slammed into his sister, forcing both to the ground. Kale's face contorted in pain, his body trembling as he quickly forced himself to rise up and glare at Nero. "Is that the best you've got?" he snapped, forcing a smirk that looked more pained than anything else. Anger was filling his chest, however, demanding that he worked harder to fight for his sister. Nobody was supposed to hurt his sister or make her cry, except for him! Ali, meanwhile, squeaked as she was forced to the ground, taking damage from the attack as well due to his brother crashing into her. Trembling, her eyes remained closed for a moment as she simply laid there, unwilling to move. She whimpered pathetically, wanting to disappear then and there. She did, however, get up after a moment, retreating another foot or so with a fearful expression.
Kale glared at Nero, hovering weakly before he began to glow white once more for another Swift. "I've had enough of you, baby. Go away!" he cried as seven more star-shaped rays were sent after the young Zorua, striking with flawless accuracy.
Upon seeing the attack hit, Kale perked up again, realizing that maybe there was a chance to win this after all! Then they could get back to their games without any more distractions. He glanced over in the direction Hina was sleeping and frowned, realizing that the puppy was silent as she slept. That was not acceptable! They had to practice their Nightmares more! With a huff, he smirked at Nero. "Go home, puppy! Scram!" Behind him, Ali watched fretfully. She was sore from the attack and looked around, prepared to escape should things escalate any further. She didn't want to deal with this sort of violence... What did this Zorua have to do with anything, anyway? That question burned in her mind before she finally spoke up again. "Wh-why are you fighting?" she piped up, looking sorrowfully at her brother and his opponent. With a rueful sigh, she let her gaze drift back to the ground. "L-let's just s-stop the battle before anyone gets hurt..." she whispered. Her brother laughed at her suggestion, however, quickly dismissing it as a possibility. "Ha! No way!" he announced, never taking carmine eyes off of his opponent. His Pursuit was a success! But more importantly, he momentarily shut that male Munna up; this was a mighty triumph for the small Zorua, for he felt he could do this all night. However, he did hesitate when the smaller Psychic-type approached in attempt to prevent the battle from continuing. Unfortunately though, the female's timing was horrendous, and there was no way Nero could stop himself from finishing the attack. Because of this, he had accidentally sent the larger Munna crashing against the smaller, and for this, he was sorry. The female Psychic-type appeared to be harmless, for she had curled up into a ball as well as she could to avoid the battle. Now the poor thing was on the ground, not moving, and Kale was furious. Before the Tricky Fox could even inquire for Ali's well-being, the male Munna launched another wave of Swift, this time conjuring up seven of the bright stars. Once again, Nero found himself struck by every star, and he gasped in anguished pain as he dropped to the snowy ground, quite exhausted. His vision was swimming, and everything sounded like it was happening at a vast distance. Still, he heard Kale's scathing comments, and the words bounced about within his head in a rather painful manner. Nero wasn't a baby; he lost such a privilege the day he lost his family. This Munna was begging him to defeat it, and defeat it he would. Due to his determination, he managed to focus on the larger Pokemon before him, though he noticed a couple shadows on either side of the two Psychic-types. One was significantly larger than the other, and both shadows seemed painfully familiar. They were his parents, of course, and the mother Zoroark held out a claw to assist her brave little boy back onto his feet. In reality though, it would have seemed as though Nero had gotten up on his own. Thank you, Mother. Nerina smiled at him, though he was unable to see this since he could only make out a blurry silhouette. On his right, Seul, is father, moved to stand beside him, as if the Absol planned to take his son's side on the matter. They would strike together with Pursuit, Nero following his father closely, and they would defeat Kale together. We have to beat him! It wouldn't be until after he attacked that he turned his attention to Ali, and if the Munna was to lock gazes with him, then it would have been revealed that he appeared to be quite dazed. There was a far-off look in those cyan blue eyes, as if he wasn't really present despite the fact that he seemed to be in full control of his body. "Why are you hurting Hina?" He spoke with a tone of accusation, though his voice was quite slow, as if it took extra time for the words to lift from his lips. "Do you think it's funny, attacking an innocent child?" Here, Nero was listening as closely as he could to his parents' words, even if they happened to be illusions produced by his mind. "What if she died because of the Nightmares? Her mother would grieve; I would grieve." Nero paused then, for he hadn't caught his mother's words after that. It seemed his vision had started to clear, which left him without the presence of his beloved parents. Now he was stuck, unsure of what else to say, yet still expected to finish. Because of this, he decided to say whatever, for he was too tired to realize how dangerous it was to be so open when socializing. "But you wouldn't know what that feels like, because you're the one harming others. You don't know what it's like to lose your parents because of others, or to lose anybody at all. I fight to protect Hina, or else you'll kill her!" He was tired, so very tired, but he was prepared to use up what little strength he had left to fight Ali, if necessary. Honestly, Nero hoped that there wouldn't be another battle; he was sure he wouldn't be able to even take a step, let alone attempt another Pursuit attack. There was a pretty good chance that he couldn't muster up any strength to flash a convincing Leer. "I'll throw down my life to protect others... I will..." He was on the verge of collapse at this point. |

Before Kale could even react after calling Nero a baby, he found himself struck by another Pursuit. This one was even stronger than the last, and it threw the Munna back to the ground. The Pokemon was unconscious before he even hit the ground, where he remained, motionless. This caused Ali to cry out, flying forward as quickly as she could, where she collapsed next to her fallen brother. "Brother? Brother!" she pleaded, shaking him to get up. He didn't stir, however, and her efforts were futile. She then looked up to Nero with frightened eyes. Would he attack her, too? She was shaking quite violently, debating whether or not she would need to attack the fox. She looked down to her older brother, tears filling carmine eyes. How could she possibly protect her and her brother? She squeezed her eyes shut and shrank into another Defense Curl, realizing just how helpless she was in the situation without her big brother there to help her. Nero's voice caused her to come back to reality, however, and her eyes snapped open, a startled gasp escaping her. She shrank back, expecting an attack to follow his words. No physical one did, although one to morality definitely landed with a critical hit. The younger Munna flinched when Nero mentioned they were hurting the Poochyena, or at least, what she assumed was the Poochyena. She didn't know what a Hina was, but it could possibly be their practice dummy's name... The young Pokemon shook her head, staring at Nero with guilty disbelief. "I..." she began quietly, only to realize that Nero was still speaking. By the time his speech about harming others was finished, tears were brimming Ali's eyes, and this time, they weren't for her unconscious brother. "I... We wouldn't k-kill her..." she mumbled stubbornly, eyes unfocused as she tried to rationalize what they were doing. "We... We were p-practicing..." she continued, shaking more than she had been before. After a moment, her gaze focused on Nero, inscrutable and searching for answers to questions she was unsure of in the small fox's demeanor. However, the Pokemon didn't seem to be giving any clues. "W-we didn't mean to hurt anyone... It... It was just a game..." People didn't get hurt in games, did they? It was just a silly game, something her brother and her did at night to play. They didn't get along most of the time, but when they were competing to create Nightmares, something they shouldn't be able to do, they played like friends. Ali found herself unsure what to say about Nero accusing her of never knowing what it was like to lose someone. She thought about this long and hard, unsure how to respond. "I... I'm sorry..." was the best she could muster. "I... We... We won't do it anymore..." She averted her gaze, looking back to her defeated big brother. She had thought him to be so strong, too, yet here he was, laying motionless on the ground. What if he stopped moving altogether from the attacks? What if he was gone all of a sudden? That thought was too much for her, causing her to fall to the ground, tears filling her horrified eyes and flooding them as she began to cry. It was a rather pitiful sight as Nero's words really sank in for the young Pokemon and she realized just what they were doing to Hina. The thought of losing her brother was overwhelming and it tore her heart to pieces. How could she, in her right mind, do that to someone else? She couldn't bear to take someone away from a family member. "I'm sorry.... I'm sorry..." she continued to repeat as she wept. She squeezed her eyes shut, silently swearing not to use attacks on helpless victims ever again. She didn't want to be the one to cause pain to others needlessly... She didn't want to be a bully.

So Ali had seen the error in her ways after all. This was a great relief to Nero, for he knew that he would not have been able to do anything about the Munna's actions if she dared to continue. Still, there was the matter of the larger Munna, the one that was so arrogant and pig-headed. "Using an attack on others isn't a game," replied the Zorua as he slowly turned away, apparently about to leave. "Keep that one under control." He flicked his fluffy tail in Kale's direction as he turned away; Nero didn't want to see the Munna cry, for he had no energy left to deal with this development. So, instead of sticking around to try comfort the Psychic-type, he staggered towards the peacefully sleeping Poochyena, and then fell over nearby. It didn't matter to him if the daughter reacted badly about his being asleep so close to her; the Zorua was simply too tired to care. Because of this, he slipped into unconsciousness almost immediately; there was still enough time for one last thought, and he spent it wisely. Thank you, Mother; thank you, Father. With that thought shared, the youth would then proceed to sleep the remainder of the night away, as well as a good portion of the morning. Nero slept well the whole time, and he quite liked his dream, for it was of spending time with his parents. The setting was the forest, which wasn't surprising given how much time the Tricky Fox spent there. It was daytime in his dream, and that particular clearing was delightfully warm thanks to the sun bathing its light across the entire clearing. At the centre of the clearing was Nero and his parents, and they were enjoying their time together. Seul had flung the Zorua into the air by his horn, and Nerina easily caught the laughing child before curling up around him. Soon after this, the Absol settled down as well, and the three smiled contently as they prepared to rest. It had been an eventful day for the family, and Nero's parents were beaming with pride. Their little boy had stood up to a bully, taught a child a valuable lesson, and saved a family. Seul commented to his wife about how their son would be a well-respected Zoroark someday, and Nerina cuddled with the two loves of her life. That would be the end of the lonely fox's dream, for a dapple of light would play across his eyes, enticing him to awaken. |

((Forgive the quick post, just a summing up sort of thing.)) Cara had returned with her hunt for the night, ready to feed her family the fresh Blitzle meat in the morning. When she arrived she sensed a calm in the atmosphere around her child that she had not encountered in many nights. Immediately she knew that the deed had been done; that the Zorua had come to her aid. For that, she could not possibly be more grateful. But what to gift him with? She had nothing to give anyone but gratitude, affection, and food. Following his scent trail was easy enough; in his exhaustion he hadn't even thrown up an illusion. She felt her heart warm at the sight of her daughter sleeping soundly beside the weak body of the pokemon who had saved her, and at a loss for anything more worthwhile to do, she retrieved the last of their berry stash and dropped it at his feet. He would find them when he awoke. She also left him a portion of the freshly hunted meat, if he so desired. With a quick nudge with her nose to the small pokemon's forepaw into what she believed to be a more comfortable sleeping position - always the busybody - she looked on with a warm smile at the two before padding silently away to sleep. It had been a very long day for her, but she was glad that the days from now on would be much, much easier.
- ((And as I'm here~))
