Azalea walked cautiously through the forest, eyes bright and hopeful as she ambled along, hoping and yearning to find a place where her purpose as a rescuer would come clear. She also yearned for somebody to aid her on her journey, and to be her friend. The only 'friends' she'd ever had were her siblings, which would much rather be chasing butterflies and tackling eachother than wondering about life and sitting by flowers, just talking and becoming close.

She sighed, her face turning to the sun to check the time. She had a fair amount of time before it turned dark, so she had no need to stop as of yet. She continued onward, nothing of interest coming up, and no pokemon coming out to say hello. Were pokemon not as friendly as she'd hoped? She sighed once more, though she didn't lose heart as her pin-cushion-like tail swayed back and forth, her small paws rustling leaves as she walked through the forest, towards her purpose....

It seemed that the forest went on forever, just a wide expanse of snow-tipped trees, grass, leaves, and flower bushes. It was a beautiful place to live, but after seeing it her whole life, she still wanted more. How long until she found a place that would make her aspirations flourish? She didn't know. What she did know was that she grew weary and really wanted a drink of water. Where had momma said water was usually found in the forest? It wouldn't help her much, since she had no idea where she was now, but still...

She searched for a source of water, be it a river or a puddle, for a very long time, debating whether or not to ask any nearby pokemon. She eventually gave up after a few hours, and was not exhausted, having no idea how to find the water. She had tried to listen for the sound of a babbling brook, but the buzz of bug pokemon drowned out any hope of such a sound. She decided to just settle by a berry bush and make a quick snack of the juicy fruit, which would hopefully sate her thirst as well as her hunger. The only problem there was, there were no berry bushes around, and she was hungry....

Settling on the single Pecha Berry her mother had given her, Azalea sat down by a large tree and curled up, nibbling on the juicy fruit as she took in the calming buzz of pokemon, and the whistle of the breeze.

He had a sort of strut to his walk that made other pokemon understand the kind of character he was as soon as they saw him. It was wide-legged as if he were too muscular to walk properly, and with a sort of uncaring, slow lope that, when accompanied by his half-sneer, made his overall demeanour seem almost on the thuggish side. As though he could snap in a second and turn on you.

Noises around him in the forest prompted him to swing his head lazily to the left and right. He pretended as though he wasn't on his guard, but he was frightened. Deep, deep in his core, he knew that he may not be particularly safe out here on his own. His mother had done everything for him. He was big and he looked strong, but he didn't even know how to hunt. His stomach growled. For a moment he was tempted to turn around and quickly convince his mum to get him some Tauros meat, but it was far and he'd made his decision now. Time to be self sufficient.

If he wanted to, he could choose to never see her again.

He hopped up onto a snow-dusted log and then off again, idly shaking himself off. He hated the snow. What kind of Fire types lived in such a cold climate? Sure the cave they'd lived in had been in the warmer ends - meaning that there was no snow on the ground - but there was still a bite in the air, and he often found himself wondering how long he would have to explore before he chanced upon a climate in which he felt comfortable.

"Spike?"

He turned, eyebrows raised, to see where his name was coming from. A friend, a relatively tough-looking Poochyena. He dawdled over and they butted heads by way of friendly but dominant greeting. "Where are you going?" he was asked.

"Ah, leaving," he replied, his voice low and husky. He didn't necessarily intend to return to this place. He would miss his friends, he supposed, but he didn't necessarily believe that they would miss him.

"Oh." The Poochyena frowned at the floor for a moment, then looked back up again. "Good luck, bro." Spike was already walking. He turned over his shoulder to reply.

"Yeah."

He continued on, purposely winding around trees so that he would be out of his friend's line of sight. Cut them out completely, he was thinking. He had no real reasoning behind this, but he sort of felt like it just had to be done. He'd probably miss the girls more than anything. He got along with females better.

As he was thinking this, he pushed his way through an icy tangle of vines and found himself standing beside a cute little Skitty who was merrily eating a berry. All by herself. He tilted his head. Should he say anything? He had just made an effort to leave his home and his group of acquaintances, and he was now considering trying to meet new pokemon? Instead, he just flashed a faux nervous smile. "Sorry," he said, and turned to continue on his way. Wherever he was going.

How cute, a couple of strangers meeting by chance. But Spike wasn't allowed to leave just like that, for there was trouble afoot. As it so happened, a Ledyba had flown by, apparently hurt and frightened. A friendly little thing, female by the sound of her panicked muttering, but clearly losing strength the longer she stayed in the air. "Venipede! Who do they think they are?" It seemed the flying Bug was full of complaints about the Bug-Poison type; up until the point where she collapsed on the ground a few feet away from Spike.

"Horrible, they're absolutely horrible!" She cried out as she struggled to return to the air, wings fluttering weakly. If Azalea or Spike was to check on the wounded Ledyba, then it would be revealed that the Pokemon had been poisoned. It was a miracle that she managed to get this far, but it was clear that the poison was starting to catch up to her in her systems. At this rate, the poor thing would faint.

But Ledyba wasn't going to give in just yet, for she had spotted Spike. Hope sparkled in her eyes for a moment as she recognized the Houndour to be a Fire-type; surely Spike would be able to save the day? "Please!" She cried out to the Dark-Fire type as she gave up on flying and chose to reserve her strength by staying on the ground. "You must save the others!" That was all she managed though, for she had fainted soon after.

Fear not, younglings, for her young sister had followed!

"Leia!" The much smaller Ledyba cried out as she zoomed right over so she could land beside her fainted sister. "Oh no, Leia; get up!" Tears filled the child's eyes as she futilely tried to wake her elder sister. When she realized the older Five Star Pokemon wasn't about to come to anytime soon, the child Ledyba let out a frightened sob. It would then that she noticed Azalea, and then that she asked for the Skitty's help. "Friend, you must help us! All the children back there! Surrounded by Venipedes!"

Trapped and Desperate!

It seems both Azalea and Spike was expected to help out. The little one, Speckles, is determined to make sure that the Houndour and Skitty do their part in resolving this terrible dilemma. There isn't an opportunity to say "no" to Speckles, for she's a stubborn little thing!

According to Speckles, there's a clearing some distance away where little ones like herself are sent; a "daycare" of sorts. Apparently a Whirlipede wants the clearing for itself, and decided to Swarm the place with Venipedes. They won't leave until Leia, the fainted dear, gives in to their demands. But with Leia fainted, what is to be done about the trapped children?

No time to waste arguing, for Speckles will make sure the pair gets going! So! Get those paws moving!

Azalea glanced up with shock upon hearing Spike, and her fur bristled slightly. She took the canine pokemon in, noting his muscles and intimidating demeanor. Was he a bully? She rose, hiding her berry behind her and was about to ask who he was when a Ledyba suddenly flew into the area, staggering in flight and badly poisoned, muttering to herself. Azalea turned and quickly grabbed her Pecha Berry, which was only slightly eaten from, and rushed to the Bug pokemon's side.

Finally, she could help out a fellow pokemon!

Disregarding the Houndour for now, Azalea hurried to offer the berry to the Ledyba, raising it up to her mouth. Then, when her sister flew in, asking for Azalea's help, her ears raised up and she handed the berry to the smaller pokemon. "Here." She said, giving the berry to the Bug pokemon. "Feed this to your sister. I'll help in any way I can!" She said eagerly, her heart soaring and reaching out to these two. She turned to Spike. "Um, Houndour." She said, her voice wavering slightly. "Please come help me! Together we can help them, I think. You're a fire type, so it should be easy! We should hurry, though!"

Without waiting for Spike, Azalea darted towards the clearing, eyes searching for the Venipedes and the children. Once spotting the clearing, she skidded to a halt. If possible, her eyes would have widened as she took in the tragic sight. Surrounding a group of baby or young Ledyba who were huddled together in fear stood a swarm of Venipede, rearing up to attack the small pokemon. Azalea bristled in anger. How dare they try to harm children?

Her ears twitched and she growled softly, tail swishing in anger. "Hey!" She called out, glaring at the bullies after shooting a reassuring smile to the children. "Who in Ilyria do you think you are? You don't own this forest, and you most certainly do not have the right to harm innocent children! What in Arceus's name are you doing?"

Despite being afraid of the larger, more numerous pokemon, her anger gave her courage. The scent of the flower by her ear wafted to her senses and calmed her nerves as well, for it reminded her of home, and how she had to protect her young siblings. She would and could not tolerate this. She was about to show them what being a real pokemon rescuer meant!

Taking a few steps forward, she eyed each of the swarmed pokemon, waiting for their first move, and silently hoping that the strong looking Houndour would come to her aid.

A few things happened then before the Houndour could properly grasp the situation: first a Ledyba dropped from the sky, poisoned from the smell of it, and his ears twitched in confusion as he stepped to her side. Was this what the real world was like? Back home when something like this happened it was considered a strange and terrible thing, but he had been travelling for mere days, and already he had happened across a deathly injury such as this one.

Scandal! He listened incredulously as the younger sister showed up and said her part. A greedy Whirlipede sending minions to take over a clearing for himself? That sounded like ... well, that sounded like none of his business. Unfair, yes, but wasn't that life? He was about to open his mouth and make an excuse, or perhaps dryly enquire as to why he was expected to save the day, when the Skitty he'd happened upon did not hesitate to run towards the direction of the problem.

He opened and shut his mouth, and then frowned deeply. Not only was he a male, but he was a Fire type; now he would be expected to go and help or he'd look like an idiot. He wasn't scared - or at least he didn't feel that he was - he just didn't quite understand yet the idea of helping others when it was nothing to do with him. Sure, if he was walking past some injustice and he was certain he could fix it quickly himself, but being recruited and sent off to fight somebody's battles for them? After a second of thought, he realised that he didn't necessarily have a problem with the idea, it just confused him. But now that the Skitty had gone, he really did have to follow suit. It was the only acceptable thing to do.

The decision took him just a moment to make, and by the time he had solidified his resolve, the Skitty was asking him for help anyway. Was it really so easy for others to ask for help? He'd been dealt everything he'd ever needed on a silver platter, except a satisfactory upbringing, of course, so he'd never had much experience with having to ask. It had sort of ended up being more than a matter of pride. He'd learned to play with the hand he was dealt; it felt like cheating to ask to swap some cards.

But, "Mm," he replied to her, and ran by her side, or just an inch or so behind; she was really eager to get there, and they arrived in the clearing together. And it really was a sickening sight. The Venipede were absolutely tormenting the Ledyba, and they were all so small and terrified. They would stick them with poison barbs and if the prey tried to release their wings to fly away, they'd work together to heave them back to the ground and pin their exoskeletons down.

He glanced over at the Skitty as she loudly told them off, and looked back at the Venipede, muscles tensed. He snorted a couple of embers as he locked eye contact with a couple of the enemy, just so they knew from the start that he was going to defeat them, and exactly how.

He'd try to give them an ultimatum. How embarrassing if he was ignored by them, though. "Clear out," he said loudly and carefully, "or fight us."

The Venipede appeared amused at the sight of the "heroes", for they saw no real threat from a Skitty and a Houndour. Sure, Spike had a type advantage, but surely there were too many of them for the pair to take on? It was this thinking that prompted three Venipede forward, the trio glancing at one another with obvious amusement in their eyes. Apparently the three would act as the diplomats of the group, though there was no real hope for compromise.

"You want us to 'clear out', but for what purpose?" One Venipede responded, his voice quiet, almost thoughtful. "What do you have to gain from this?" As this Bug spoke to Spike, his friend turned to Azalea and practically spat at the Skitty. With prompting from thoughtful Venipede, the female that spat at Azalea was forced to move back a bit, just to make sure a fight didn't start because of that one taunt. "Who said we own the forest? Who are you to tell us what our rights are? You're not the boss, and you're certainly not Arceus."

His companions voiced their agreements about this, though there wasn't really a point in their doing this. In fact, the main Venipede completely ignored his companions as he continued to try reasoning with these interlopers. "You focus on your business; we'll focus on ours." There seemed to be a pause, a moment of absolute silence as the Venipedes and Ledybas waited to see what the pair chose.

"Should just take care of them now, Venn," called one of the Venipedes that held back with most of the group. "While they're still just a nuisance." It was a tempting thought, but Venn wasn't going to buy it. He would wait to see what the Houndour and Skitty decided before making any moves of his own. If provoked, then he would move away and let the other two Centipedes take on Azalea and Spike.

So, the question came down to this: does the pair stay to fight, or leave and act as if nothing was happening?

Azalea bristled more, her anger spiking even more before she calmed herself down, looking to the side and grimacing. "What kind of business involves injuring innocent children?" She seethed, tail flicking back and forth as she tried to calm herself down. As far as she knew, there was no business that needed to involve children or innocent pokemon other than helping them, or doing something civil, and not threatening them. She knew for a fact that these pokemon had no intention of aiding these small, innocent bug pokemon. As of now, she wasn't even going to attempt charming the male Venipede. She'd much rather slap his sorry face so hard he flew over the trees. But would that not just be stooping to their level? She was a rescuer...

She then glanced at the terrified children and couldn't contain it any longer. Their glistening eyes were wide with fear, and they were shaking like dry leaves in the wind. Azalea's heart pumped three times faster as her adrenaline peaked. Spinning at the head Venipede, she leaped forward and aimed to Tackle the bully as hard as she could. Given the fact that she didn't completely miss and/or hurt herself, she'd land back on the ground and bolt towards the children, standing defensively in front of them and turning left and right, fur bristling on end as she hissed at anyone who neared them. She crouched threateningly. "Go away." she said, then yowled the most intimidating Growl she could muster.

She flicked a glance at Spike, hoping to Arceus that he would teach these jerks a lesson, and help her save the children.

When the trio of Venipede stepped up to them and shoved that cool, arrogant attitude into their faces, Spike couldn't help but snarl his disapproval, the loud sound ripping from his throat serving to do little more than partially block out their idiotic words. The Bug type spitting at the pleasant Skitty companion made his hackles rise higher, and he barked a horrible name at the creature, about to leap forwards to attack it when to his surprise, the Skitty launched herself forward instead, the fury of the attack almost forcing him backwards a little.

He stood there attempting not to cough in the dust she'd raised and watched, blinking, as she attacked the Venipede. The girl had some real strength of character, that was for sure. He tilted his head. It was unusual for a Skitty, in his experience, to have that level of drive and clarity of mind. The ones he'd met just batted their eyelashes and flirtatiously flicked their tails. No character, no depth. Vain and stupid.

With a gruff bark of "I've got your back," he launched towards the same Venipede that she was now running away from to block the path to the frightened Ledyba, flames spilling from his eager grinning jaws onto the forest floor before spraying towards the Bug type as viciously as he could; a precise and yet rough Ember attack.

Once he'd come to the end of his breath, he quickly jerked away from the Venipede just like Azalea, and then stood beside her, panting smoke, head low and muscles tensed and quivering beneath glossy black fur. He had no idea what he'd gotten himself into, and still wasn't sure if he thought it was a good idea to be here, but he wasn't necessarily one to walk away from a fight. Yes, this one had nothing to do with him, but they were obviously in need of a good flaming to the face. He didn't enjoy the company of others particularly, but to attack children? That was kind of a bit too far. They were vulnerable, they were innocent, and they didn't deserve any of this. His heart was hammering; his claws digging deep into the soil beneath him, and he shot a withering Leer to whichever opponent was closest to them at the time.

"I hope you can handle yourself in a battle," he mumbled under his breath, not turning away to look at Azalea, "because I don't know if I can save you if you can't, little Skitty." She'd shown herself to be righteous and decisive, yes, but whether she was actually capable of doing any damage, he didn't know. If only, he thought, his old friends were here. The ones he'd trained with growing up. They'd tear these bugs to pieces. Oh well. The Skitty would have to do.

So the Skitty had chosen to fight, and with that decision, aimed to strike the lead Venipede with a Tackle. Unfortunately her choice wasn't the best, for the Venipede had a friend right beside him. Besides that, Venn had been ready in case one of the interlopers chose to strike, so he was quick to move. If successful, then he would have moved back as his companion sprang to the side to take the hit instead.

So Venn and his companion had each failed, and the pink feline had gotten away with striking. As if to make matters worse, the Kitten dashed off to defend the Ledyba children, somehow breaking through the ranks of Venipede so she could stand among the innocent. In emphasis of her success, she Growled at the group of Centipedes, successfully causing the bullies to glance at one another with uncertainty.

The cat was ballsy, attacking Venn like that, and all the more for recklessly joining the Ledyba. Still, even with three Venipedes at a distance, there were still three Venipedes for Azalea to face, and this gave strength to the Pokemon. They would toy with the little thing, one at a time, just for the fun of it. This decided, one of the Venipedes moved forward, and then fired a short stream of Poison Sting at Azalea.

Meanwhile, Spike seemed ready to fight, and even spat out an Ember attack at Venn. While the Venipede hadn't been totally prepared for this, which left him not only open for attack, but also unable to strike back. Luck must have been especially on this Houndour's side, too, for neither of Venn's companions had even moved a muscle. Venn was pretty much on his own at that moment, but that was probably perfectly fine to the Dark-Fire type.

Venn was furious that he had been struck- not once, but twice. It seemed these fools were determined to get in the way, and because of this, the poisonous Bug saw no reason to refuse them a battle. "Destroy the two!" He ordered as he sent both companions to join the three that had stayed behind to tend to the group of Ledyba. While his companions rushed after Spike, Venn chose to stay back. There was no real purpose in him joining the battle now that he was already weakened.

Besides, someone had to stay out of it in case things went sour.

Now that Spike and Azalea were back together, the Venipede grunts became even more wary about the situation. It didn't help that the Houndour had flashed an intimidating Leer at the group, making them all the more antsy. Still, Venn had ordered them to attack, so attack they would. However, they would move as pairs, one to fight Spike and the other to fight Azalea; like this, Spike was faced with a Venipede of his own, though he had the option to attack his companion's opponent if he liked, and vice versa on Azalea's part.

Spike's opponent, upon moving forward, let out an annoying Screech attack while the others cheered the two Centipedes on. All the while, the Ledyba children would cower behind the heroes, tightening their huddle in fear of being dragged into the battle. Nonetheless, a few of the braver children peered up at their rescuers with looks of admiration, unafraid of accidentally getting caught up in the fight.

Azalea shot a grateful look at Spike as he aided her in battle and stood beside her to protect the children. Her anger dissolved slightly and she twitched her ears, looking down shyly. "Well, yeah, I can battle. I had to protect my family a while back. Plus, just because I'm a girl, I-" She started to say, then cut herself off as she leaped back to try and dodge the Poison Sting, glaring icily at the mass of Venipedes, her small body shaking slightly; though whether it was with anger or fear, or both, can't be certain.

She then closed her eyes and briefly took a deep breath, drawing calm from her flower before promptly flashing open her eyes and glaring, letting out another Growl before backing up slightly and eyeing the children, who looked confused and scared. This gave her strength and courage as she winked at Spike and locked her eyes onto her new opponent, who came closer as the cowardly leader stood back to watch the show.

She couldn't use her charms on this one, for it was a girl, but that didn't phase her. She didn't want to rely on that anyways. She quickly used Helping Hand, channeling good thoughts to Spike and bumping against him reassuringly before leaping forward and pretending to aim an attack at Spike's opponent before Faking Out and spinning to attack Nia. Though she barely knew Spike, she felt an urge to help him out, for that was what had given her the yearning to use her Helping Hand attack, and it gave her a warm feeling of teamwork inside. Could this mean she'd finally found a rescue team partner?

She'd have to ask him later, after the swarm.

Pushing that thought aside, Azalea stood back keeping a close eye on her opponent as she watched for a reaction to her attack, and if Nia flinched from the Fake Out, Azzy would take that opportunity to help Spike out with his battle and use her Charm ability on Pierce to distract him from Spike as her current battle partner attacked. Would it work? Who knows, but as the Skitty saw it, she and Spike had the upper hand, despite the sheer numbers and size of the enemy.

((Did you factor in Ember's super effectiveness? ;D

Sorry for inevitable shortness - internet here comes and goes, and friends keep showing up to see my new house, haha.))

Spike flinched as the enemy Venipede began to make a hideous screeching noise at him. He felt his muscles slacken a little; the strangest thing he'd ever felt. He was jerked out of that horrible feeling of temporary vulnerability when Azalea bumped against him, and he was flooded with a warm tingly feeling that he had also never felt before.

Channelling that feeling through his body and feeling it pulse through his veins, he took a deep breath, and then squared up again, refusing to move despite the assumption that the screeching had made him more susceptible to taking damage. He wouldn't move from his place in front of the children. He blew out his breath hard, surprised by the sheer ferocity of the Ember he had released to the Venipede who had Screeched at him; much stronger than it normally was. It must have been from whatever his Skitty companion had infused into him. The girl knew what she was doing, that was for sure.

Spike wasn't particularly accustomed to feeling as though he wasn't the strongest pokemon around, and that niggling feeling at the back of his mind that he just may not come out of this entirely intact wouldn't stop bothering him. He swallowed, his throat still hot from his fiery attack, and stepped back a little. He could pretend outwardly that he wasn't nervous, but inwardly his heart was hammering.

((Seems like I didn't. Ah well; at least Venn isn't battling, and won't be battling.))

So the Skitty had chosen to dodge, though it seemed she was a bit slow about it. That was what happened when a Pokemon looked away to discuss matters in the middle of a battle. Hopefully it wouldn't affect her too much, otherwise things would look pretty bad for the pair. After all, if Azalea was to be defeated, then Spike would be on his own to defend everything. There was only so much one Pokemon could handle before wearing out.
Nia's Poison Sting

Accuracy:
1d20+1(distraction)/2(dodge)
7. It's a hit!
Damage
1d6+3(level difference)+2(STAB)-1(Growl)+1(attack tier)
7. That looked pretty scary, didn't it?
Despite the damage though, Azalea appeared determined to have her way with the opponent. While the Skitty shut her eyes to take in the scent of her flower, Nia flashed a look of absolute triumph. This was the best the Kitten could do? Nia was far from impressed, but by Venn's warning, she was reminded to stay focused on the battle. Due to this, the female Venipede prepared to curl into a ball for a Defense Curl.

Defense was important, and since her opponents were ballsy enough to strike at Venn, she was pretty sure the two weren't pushovers. It was around then that Azalea let out her best Growl, and while the group was already pretty nervous, the attack didn't seem to be as effective as before. The Normal-type had been hit once already, and it was a pretty nice attack. Because of this, Azalea wasn't viewed as much of a threat as before.

At least, up until the point when she lunged toward Nia with a Fake Out attack. Such an odd time to use it, but there was no time to worry about that. Because the Centipede had chosen to curl up into a Defense Curl, she had no chance of attempting a dodge. This meant the Skitty's attack was a guarantee hit. Hopefully it would be effective, or else things would look pretty ugly for the dear!

Azalea Fake Out

Damage
1d6-3(level difference)-1(Def EV)+2(STAB)+1(attack tier)
2. Could have been worse; could have been 1.
Not the strongest strike she could have mustered, but it wasn't her fault, really. This Venipede is three levels higher than herself, and it has a defense EV; the odds were certainly not in her favor. It seems Spike would have to work extra hard to make up for Azalea's lack of strength, but surely the Houndour would understand? Speaking of the Houndour, he had been given a Helping Hand earlier, which meant he was stronger than before.

Spike had chosen to attack Pierce with a ferocious Ember attack, and the sight of fire made the Venipede antsy. Due to this, the poisonous bug wasn't quick about avoiding the attack, and this left him wide open. It was another guaranteed hit for the heroes, but was it enough to take out the Venipede? Hopefully it was, because it looked like the side effect of Fake Out had failed, and Nia was getting ready to use Rollout! That was the problem with Fake Out; it made the opponents flinch only when it was used from the beginning of the battle. Weird, certainly, but them's the breaks.

7. Not bad, not bad; can you do it again?
Pierce Screeched in pain as he reeled backward; it seemed Screech was his automatic response to everything. After the Pokemon took a moment to roll around in hopes of putting out the fire on himself, he flashed a venomous glare at the Houndour. Now the Centipede was made, though sadly not burnt, and he was determined to defeat the Dark-Fire type! Can anyone say "Poison Sting"? Either way, Pierce had fired the attack in his fury.

( :o nooooo! Azzy! -snuggles- hang in there, buddy! Btw, was she poisoned or not?)

Azalea cried out, shutting her eyes for just a second while grimacing in pain from the attack. She could feel that almost, if not, half, of her health was already being taken from her. Had she been too careless? She snapped her eyes open, fur still bristling as she glared at her opponent. Though she was aching with pain, she stood her ground, trying hard to calm herself. She spared an apologetic glance to Spike before readying herself to attack once more.

Slightly disheartened by her extremely weak attack, Azalea was determined to make her next one more effective. She took a deep breath and launched her self forward, readying herself to slam into the bug with a Tackle, as it was her only practical offensive attack now. She would then, given the fact that she wasn't attacked, flip back and land gracefully, though a little shakily, on her paws, before attempting a Tail Whip and jumping backwards, out of the immediate range of attack. She sure hoped Spike was faring well, because she wasn't sure if she was strong enough to go on much longer...

Was she really doing the right thing, or just embarrassing herself, and endangering the small Ledybas? Was she really cut out to be a rescuer? These were the thoughts that were running through the Skitty's brain as her ears twitched, and she glanced fearfully from bug to bug, eyes showing only hints of their earlier valour; though they still held flashes of anger.
