Nero had awoken in the shelter that was previously home to Cara and Hina, and he was momentarily confused as to why he had discovered himself to be alone. Before he could come up with any far-fetched reasons for this, he noticed the two Oran Berries and the not-so fresh meat left behind for him, and the Zorua smiled softly. It seemed the Mightyena had chosen these foods to be his reward for helping, and while it was wonderful to actually have meat to eat for breakfast, he found he was more satisfied with the fact that he had helped rather than having been rewarded. It felt good being of use to that family, and for a moment, the Tricky Fox wondered what it would be like to help others. Unfortunately though, he dismissed this thought almost as abruptly as he thought of it. Nero had been so awkward when he offered his service, and as he watched a leaf flutter to the ground, he concluded that he was just as skillful at battling as he was at hunting. This was a rather harsh comparison since he was horrendous at hunting, but the Dark-type was convinced this was true. A sigh escaped the child's lips before he nudged the Oran Berries into his small pouch. Now he has two Oran Berries and one Sitrus Berry to carry around in case he needed them. As the Pokemon rose to his paws, he checked his pouch for the Friend Bow, a lovely scarf he had been gifted recently, and smiled thoughtfully at the sight. This had been given to him by a human in Axar Port when he provided the elderly woman his silent company. According to the woman, it was meant to be worn by a Pokemon to make the creature seem more friendly, therefore able to convince others to join the team better than a battle would. Nero had been so excited when he learned of this, though by the time he had reached Esprit Forest to try it out, he found himself unwilling to wear it. It was a beautiful scarlet red scarf, and as he continued to admire its silky sheen, he found himself mulling over the idea of replacing his "human scarf" with it. Eventually, Nero had closed his small pouch, all items hidden inside of it, and managed to get the pouch around his neck to hide in his scruff. Once he was satisfied that the pouch wouldn't be noticed, the young Zorua took on a steady pace of wandering in a random direction. Without really thinking about it, the child fox had returned to his habit of sneaking around, hidden in plain sight as he moved with the shifting of shadows. Like this, there was little chance of him being spotted by anyone, and this was just how the Illusion Pokemon preferred it. As he continued on his way, cyan blue eyes shifted from one sight to another, for there was always so much to be seen. On one paw, there was the fact that a flock of Spearows had flown above the trees, apparently migrating to another part of the forest; on the other was the sound of a nearby creek coupled with what sounded like a few Pokemon arguing about something or another. The sounds warned him to avoid the creek, but if he thought about it, then he would have realized that he was pretty thirsty. Normally he would have just licked at the snow underpaw, but for some reason that idea was less appealing when compared to actual fresh water. Because of this, he found himself shifting his weight until he was lighter than usual on his paws, which made him all the more difficult to detect. Nero would be in and out of the danger zone with hardly a sound, he was sure of it. Maybe if he was lucky, he would be able to cross the water to continue on his way. The Tricky Fox didn't know where he was going, only that he was going. He would meet other Pokemon, see if he could overcome his social awkwardness by helping others, and continue wandering the region. The boy was searching for his father, and so he needed to keep moving in hopes of finally reaching the Absol. He wouldn't think about what happened to his mother, especially since he still had no idea why the Zoroark had stopped moving. No, he would focus on the task at paw, and that was finding his father so he could share the news. It never occurred to the lonely thing that he was all that was left of his small family. ~We're lost. Again.~ The voice was clearly audible to the young Deino who was wandering through the forest. Her senses were being assailed with the different smells, sounds, and feeling of everything around her, and she was so busy focusing on that that she was wandering in circles. Of course, the blind Dragon didn't realize it. Her fuchsia, sightless eyes narrowed in irritation from under the long fur that covered and protected them at the sound of the voice. ~Shush,~ Tiamat snapped back, raising her head to sniff around for some clue of where they were. All around her, she could hear the chirping of bird Pokemon singing their songs. While they were odd sounding to the Dragon who had lived in a cave for her entire life, they allowed her to "see" their surroundings. The Irate Pokemon relied on the sounds to paint a mental image of the area, using extra-sensitive hearing to detect where sounds were echoed back. Of course, this wasn't a fool-proof method of navigating, as she could not tell whether or not she was going in circles, but at least she wouldn't go bashing her head into anything. ~Admit it. You got us lost. Perhaps you should let me give navigating a try...~ the voice told her smoothly. The voice, while seemingly calm and controlled, betrayed rage felt. Lagi, the second mind in the body was inwardly fighting a growl as she remained motionless within the body, unable to even breathe. If Tiamat were to jump into a lake and stay underwater with the intentions of drowning, then the both of them would surely die unless Lagi managed to snatch control before unconsciousness took over. That thought terrified the young Deino left dormant within the body. ~Nice try, Lagi,~ Tiamat replied laconically. Her tail twitched behind her as she turned her head to sense their location. She got the same blurry image of trees that wasn't much clearer than watching television on a black and white TV through static. It was good enough, however. Her lips twitched downward in a tiny frown as she realized that the big black lump to her left seemed familiar. She was certain they had passed it before. A careful sniff to the area made her realize that they had in fact been there before. She could smell the familiar scent of their cave on it. That meant they had to have been there recently, since the cold stuff that was falling from the sky hadn't erased the smell yet. Sighing, Tiamat continued to wander, moving straight past the large boulder they had found. The Dragon moved without much emotion, but rather was trying to figure out what had happened. All she knew was that her parents were gone, and now Lagi seemed determined to be in control. What had happened to the days they were able to play with each other and keep each other company without concern who was the one moving? She felt she couldn't even trust her sister anymore, because if she did, it would be a struggle to reclaim her body. Tiamat continued to keep to herself, quietly mulling over what was going on while she did so. She moved instinctively, avoiding the tree trunks and brush skillfully while her feet crunched the snow, compacting it and leaving a trail behind them as she walked. ~What's that?~ Lagi spoke up after quite some time of remaining silent. Her voice was wary and guarded. She suppressed the urge to growl. ~Turn to the left,~ She was focusing as well as she could in that direction, but it wasn't helping. If the body wasn't turned that way, how could she see what was going on? Tiamat growled in response, obliging and turning her head. She had missed the sound that Lagi pointed out, and that angered her. What she heard was an odd sound, bubbling and flowing. Was it... Water...? It sounded kind of like running water, but wasn't it too cold for that? After all, the rain that fell from the sky was frozen. ~A... River?~ But there was more than just water. It sounded like some sort of argument nearby as well. With a twitch of her tail, the Deino moved forward to approach it. ~What are you doing...?~ Lagi interrupted warily. She felt the growing urge to take over their body and move away. After all, they were moving into a dangerous situation. ~Don't go over there!~ she growled. Of course, she was ignored, which brought more rage to the Irate Pokemon. Growling, she tried to overpower her sister's mind, fighting for control of the body. The element of surprise aided the young Dragon, and she managed to gain control for a few seconds, roaring as she did so, feeling the powerful muscles as she turned to move the other direction. Unfortunately, however, Lagi only found herself in control for a few brief seconds before Tiamat stole it back. ~NEVER do that again!~ Tiamat growled, lashing out at the other mind with her own to force her back. With that said, she turned back toward the source of the sound of water, carefully avoiding trees as she started in a brisk walk, quickening her pace to a loping run as she did so. Within minutes, they were at the creek, and the sound of bickering grew louder, although Tiamat couldn't be sure what it was. She chose to ignore it, moving closer to the water with careful, tentative steps. She would put one foot in front of her, testing the area for water, and when she got close enough, she bent her head down to drink some of the ice cold liquid. |

As Nero approached the running water, he started to hesitate, for the argument sounded like one that would end up as a nasty brawl. Once the river was in sight, the child Zorua ducked down into a snow-covered bush so he could look around for the source of the argument. It wasn't long before he spotted two Pokemon: a Snover and a Swadloon; Nero recognized one of them, the Snover, as a familiar species. If he remembered correctly, Snovers were part Grass-type, part Ice-type; he had no idea what that bundle of leaves was, but he was pretty sure it was also a Grass-type. Ears perked in the direction of the arguing Pokemon, Nero concentrated on learning what the disagreement even was, and he was surprised to discover it. The matter was such a trivial one as far as the young fox was concerned, and it should have been easily resolved! "Quit yer yapp'n!" Ordered the Bug-Grass type as it swatted the Snover with a leaf. "Get cross'n de wader!" It wasn't hard to cross the water, seeing as how there was still ice on some parts of the river. Unfortunately though, the Frost Tree Pokemon was adamant about staying put. Apparently the Pokemon hated water, and this made absolutely no sense to the hidden Dark-type. Honestly, what did water ever do to deserve hatred? "Ain't doin' no crossin'," replied the Snover as it crossed its arms and huffed. "Dat ain't 'appinin'." With that declared, the Pokemon turned its back on the river, and made it a point to pout a little. This appeared to greatly frustrate the Swadloon, for the Pokemon felt they had gone too far too just give up right then and there. When the Grass-Ice type started walking away, its companion shouted for it to return. This didn't happen however, which led to the Swadloon shouting curses at the Snover. But Nero was no longer listening to that, for he was focused on the now abandoned river. The water looked so good, especially after he had to lick at the snow to quench his thirst for several days. Cyan blue eyes flickered right and left in search of potential danger; the child would abandon this endeavor if he spotted anyone that appeared potentially dangerous. He might have felt way better after that wonderful meal, but his muscles still ached from the beating of those Swift attacks. It seemed the coast was clear, so Nero dared to creep out from his hiding place. His eyes continued to dart back and forth as he warily searched for danger. The Pokemon paused a couple times as his ears picked up the sounds of nearby movement, but each sound was dismissed when his eyes and mind caught up. On one paw, he had heard Pokemon children playing some distance away, and on the other paw, he heard the fluttering of delicate wings, possibly Beautifly and Butterfree. There was one instance where he thought he heard the crunching of snow nearby, but in his desperation for real water, he dismissed this as his imagination going wild. A few more pawsteps, and he would have finally reached the ice-cold water. Once there, he would lower himself slowly, muscles tense in preparation to leap, before he dared drink the water. He hoped he would jump across the small river at the slightest provocation, yet at the same time, he hoped he wouldn't be provoked in the first place. There was always the chance of him freezing in place, too frightened to do anything productive. |

As Tiamat lapped up the life-giving liquid, she heard the bickering escalate into yelling. This caused her head to jolt upwards, blind eyes instinctively searching for the source of the sound as her black fur mane bristled. The yelling made it easier for her to see the source; a smallish blob seemed to be the origin of the noise, judging by the clarity of the image her mind painted in front of her. This caused Tiamat's lip to twitch upwards in a growl, needle-sharp fangs visible. She snarled before roaring, "Shut up!! Can't you see some of us just want to enjoy our drink in peace??" She snorted before turning her head away to continue her drink. She wasn't quite sure why the two unknown Pokemon would bicker in such a disturbing way when others would gather there to drink. After all, water was necessary for survival. The two loud ones could at least have the common courtesy to keep their squabble to themselves! At least, that was Tiamat's logic. The fact that they were so unaware of their surroundings to bring attention to the area and risk the welfare of the other Pokemon she could sense around them only fueled her anger. After all, there was another small blob drinking from the water, and some quiet wings were flapping about. The last thing that needed to happen was a larger predator being drawn in by the raucous Pokemon. ~Ooh, someone's irritated...~ Lagi commented, chuckling to herself. The Dragon then turned her attention to the water, waiting for Tiamat to finish drinking. She was waiting for the right moment to lash out again and take over the body. So far, she was certain it wasn't the right time just yet. Soon, however, she was convinced that her sister would grow angry enough that her blind rage would be enough of a distraction for her to be subdued so Lagi could have her chance at roaming the earth. Tiamat merely huffed at her sister, choosing not to comment. When she finished her drink, she raised her head, swiveling it so she got a view of what was going on. The stream's constant flowing provided enough noise for her to be able to see what was at least close by. She was on edge, listening for any signs of a larger Pokemon approaching that would cause problems for the others. ~What, not even going to speak to me?~ Lagi taunted, her voice betraying the desire to cause trouble. The second mind was waiting for Tiamat's anger to build even more. At that point, she'd be able to gain control and wreak havoc. She'd have an opportunity to grow stronger and prove that she was the head that would survive evolution, not her sister. She was unwilling to become one of the lifeless, mindless heads a Hydreigon used to devour food. She would not die upon evolution! She was determined to grow stronger and prove this. Tiamat gave a deep, throaty growl in response. ~Can it, Lagi. Not now.~ She had a feeling it was going to be a long day. |

Had he made a mistake? Is that why he had failed to realize that the crunching of snow was, in fact, the pawsteps of another Pokemon? That there was another Pokemon drinking water just like him? How foolish the child Zorua had been, allowing his desire to finally taste the sweetness of water to blind him from properly searching his surroundings! It was too late to amend this mistake though, for he was certain that black and blue Pokemon had noticed him. Luckily for him, it seemed the Pokemon wasn't paying much attention to him, which meant Nero had a chance to escape. After lapping up some more water, the Zorua cast a quick glance at the nearby Deino, a Pokemon he was somewhat familiar with from his time living with his parents, before he paused. Confused, the Tricky Fox straightened up, and then blatantly stared at the Irate Pokemon, for this was the first time he had been given the opportunity to properly see a living Dragon. As far as Nero could tell, the Deino was blind, though he only guessed this because he couldn't see any eyes. Maybe he hadn't been noticed, after all; would he be noticed if he tried to get a closer look? The Dark-type managed a single step before he faltered, for the idea was terrifying and dangerous. That meant socializing with a Dragon, of all choices, and Dragons were known to be vicious, weren't they? The Zorua was psyching himself out the more he thought of it, yet still his body moved forward. He had resumed his instinctive sneaking around, though his belly rubbed against the cold snow because he had lowered himself so low to the ground. This was done because of how scared he was, for he had realized only now what he was doing. It wouldn't be long before he stopped inching closer, for he would have been at least three feet away from the Dark-Dragon type. From here, he would just lay there, watching the Deino. His legs were too much like that jiggly dessert thing humans liked to eat, jello he believed it was called, for him to even stand. If he was to be attacked, then the most he would be able to do is Detect once, maybe twice if he was lucky. Of course, doing so would simply be delaying the inevitable, but one did what one could in hopes of surviving. Because he was so focused on these dismal thoughts, he failed to consider the idea that the Deino before him wouldn't be the worst of his worries. The Swadloon and Snover had certainly caused trouble, enough trouble to scare most of the Pokemon away from the river. It didn't occur to him why Pokemon would avoid the watering hole after the argument, he didn't spend as much time in the forest as most Pokemon did, and so he wasn't aware of the potential danger the argument could attract. Hopefully nothing happened while he focused on studying the Pokemon before him. |

As Tiamat searched the area, her auditory gaze landed on Nero once he got within a few feet of her, piquing her interest. She tilted her head, facing the Zorua's general direction. The fox, while crouched down, appeared rather small, even to the short Dragon. Sniffing a bit, she decided that whatever was in front of her was, in fact, alive and a Pokemon. Her eyes narrowed behind the fur that protected them and for a moment, she wondered if that was the Pokemon that was shouting earlier. After all, there had been quite some distance between them earlier and the blind Dragon could not accurately see whatever it was. "What are you?" she asked Nero, careful to remain guarded. Just because she couldn't see didn't mean she was defenseless or that she couldn't fight. Lagi laughed at the question. ~Dinner, that's what it is,~ she murmured to her sister's mind. She inwardly grinned at her comment before focusing on the creature in front of them. It didn't smell familiar, and she could make out a circular shape with two larger triangles on top of it with the aid of the creek's ambiance. ~Looks tasty,~ she growled, instincts kicking in as she felt their body's shared hunger pangs. ~Perhaps we should... Chase it?~ The Dragon felt the hunger, despite the fact her sister had control of their body, and she felt the need to act on instinct to satiate the need. After all, weren't Deino known for their voracious appetites? Why should they be any exception? Had Lagi been in control of the body, her mouth would've begun to water as she hungrily sniffed at the air. The Zorua was right there; easy prey... All Tiamat had to do was lurch forward and snap their jaws around its neck and it was over. They'd be able to eat fresh meat. ~Lagi. For the last time, shut up!~ Tiamat snapped, the last words being roared at her sister's mind. Her tail twitched with irritation as she was forced to hear the thoughts about hunting and killing. She faced Nero, realizing that her own mouth was beginning to water. How long had it been since they had last eaten? She wasn't sure, but it had to have been a while if she could feel her carnivorous instincts trying to push for her to attack. Or was that just a mind game of Lagi's? She couldn't be too sure. For that reason, she sat down, peering sightlessly at Nero. She was determined to remain in control of their body, and to remain calm. As Tiamat waited for a response, she tried to let go of her anger that was being fueled by Lagi, and she focused instead on the sounds around them. The soft flutter of feathered wings could be heard above them as bird Pokemon flew away. That was concerning. Did it mean something larger was coming? Why would they all leave the area, when it brought life simply by bearing water? Her head quickly turned, ears straining to pick up the sounds of something approaching them. She didn't detect any... ~I told you so, I told you so!~ Lagi taunted in a sing-song trill as she laughed. She had, after all, warned Tiamat not to approach the creek. Did she listen? No. Of course she didn't listen. Why would she when she believed herself to be stronger? This thought spurred more anger and resentment, and the second mind growled ferally. Of course, this was inaudible to Nero, as was the rest of their bickering. The subservient Dragon's anger was building and ready to explode at any moment. She was sick and tired of being dominated by Tiamat, and of everyone else only acknowledging her. Rather than fighting to take control of the body then and there, however, a devilish thought crossed her mind. Wait until she speaks to the blob a bit more, and when she thinks she has a friend, then ruin it. She chuckled to herself finding this thought very much to her liking. Rather than fight now, she was going to sit back and relax. ~I said, hush! Get that through your thick skull!!~ Tiamat snapped, only to have her attention snatched away. She froze for a moment, head raised and standing stock still. Focusing her hearing as best she could, she heard pounding footsteps charging toward them. She couldn't tell what they were from, nor how many of this something were charging, but something was preparing to barge through the forest, likely drawn by the commotion caused by the other two bickering Pokemon. "Come with me!" Tiamat cried to Nero, not bothering to wait for introductions or anything else. She looked at him, a frown on her face and a demeanor that said she was dead serious. "It's not safe here!" She hesitated a moment before taking a few steps north, twitching her tail in a gesture for him to follow. She didn't know where she would go, nor if they'd be safe. All she knew was that she wanted to get away from the creek as quickly as possible to avoid a confrontation with such a large Pokemon. However, she was unwilling to leave behind the small Pokemon that had been standing in front of her just moments prior. |

Nero flinched when the Deino turned its attention to him, and in the back of his mind, he noted that the Pokemon was female, as he judged by the creature's voice. "I..." Just like before, his voice had cracked upon being spoken to, and this was mildly frustrating to the child. He might have been on the awkward side, but that didn't mean he couldn't at least talk without sounding stupid. At this thought, he licked his lips in preparation to try again. "I'm a Zorua." Yes, he had done it: he spoke in an even tone, though there was a subtle touch of his aloof personality. It seemed that was the most of a conversation he would have with the other, for the Deino appeared occupied with other things. At least, Nero thought the Deino was occupied, as it- er, she hadn't responded to his answer. Instead of pestering the Pokemon though, he chose to resume his staring at the Irate Dragon. Now that he had forced himself to calm down enough to really look at his companion, he found he couldn't help but wrinkle his nose at the sight. This Pokemon was filthy, and Nero couldn't help but wonder what his parents would have done to him if he allowed himself to wander around while so dirty. The black fur on Tiamat's head was dusty, grimy, and appeared to have leaves and sticks sporadically placed, as if the Pokemon never noticed anything poking at her skull. The very thought made Nero frown a bit, for that actually sounded like it would hurt. The fur around Tiamat's neck was just as bad as that on her head, though there weren't sticks poking through the fur. Instead, there seemed to be pebbles and such tangled in the fur, as if the Deino never bothered to groom herself. Even those sapphire blue scales were in terrible condition, though there were still the occasional glimmers of shine here and there. The Tricky Fox had a pretty good feeling that those stubborn scales wouldn't keep their shine for long. When his cyan blue eyes lowered to look at the Dragon's claws, Nero noted how there was snow melting atop each paw and that there was dirt stuck between the Pokemon's claws. Overall, the Zorua decided that this Pokemon needed someone to groom it, for it seemed the Deino had no plans to do so itself. At that thought, his eyes momentarily lit up. This sounded like something he could help out with, and if he was lucky, then it wouldn't involve very much conversation. They were already near a body of water, even if the river was only trickling water, so this would be the time to take care of the Dragon. He would groom this Pokemon as well as his mother used to groom him, and he would make his parents proud for helping another once again. Encouraged by this idea, the Zorua opened his mouth to bring it up when Tiamat suddenly demanded that he join her. This idea terrified him, for he had no idea what the Irate Pokemon wanted of him. For all he knew, he was about to become food for this Pokemon and her family. Despite how weak his legs felt, he still jumped to his paws to follow the Dragon's command; he didn't want to end up killed for not trying to stand. Thankfully though, Tiamat's reasoning was explained when she revealed that it wasn't safe, though suddenly Nero wondered what was better: dealing with this filthy Pokemon, or dealing with whatever had spooked such an intimidating creature that, he realized, was actually shorter than him by an inch or two. Nonetheless, he scampered after the Deino, moving to walk beside it once Tiamat flicked her tail for him to follow. Moving directly beside the Pokemon was probably a very bad idea on the Zorua's part, but he was young and still had a lot to learn. "Not safe?" He inquired in a low voice as his eyes anxiously darted about. Now that he had been warned, he found that he could hear it, too. Something large, perhaps a few things, were moving toward the river; would it be better to cross the river? Cyan blue eyes lingered longingly on the river to his right before he shook his head to focus on the task at paw. He would cross the river to resume his journey later, after he was sure he was safe. "Definitely not safe. Hide in the shadows!" As he announced this, the Tricky Fox slipped into the flickering shadows of the nearby trees and practically danced with the shadows, matching his movements with them. Once he was sure he had the rhythm, Nero glanced over to check on Tiamat. Edited by Key2dawn, Sep 4 2012, 08:10 PM.

"A... Zorua?" Tiamat repeated curiously. She vaguely remembered a story her mother told her once about a Zoroark and a Zorua. The Zoroark was powerful and able to fight all that approached. It was a trickster Pokemon, always causing trouble and stealing from the nearby settlements just for fun. It never lost a battle ever when angry Pokemon would come to regain their belongings, relying on its ability to create illusions and manipulate the mind to convince its target that the illusions were real. The only time it was ever defeated was when the opponent managed to find the Zoroark's weakness: its baby Zorua. The opponent Pokemon, something called Lucario, managed to get its paws on the Zorua, able to see through the illusions with its ability to see auras. Of course, Tiamat didn't understand this, but it was enough to pique her interest in her new companion. Of course, before she could comment any further, she heard the footsteps and chose then to leave. ~Its mother's probably the monster coming,~ Lagi commented dryly. She remembered the story just as well as her sister did. Zoroark, at least in bedtime stories, were fiercely protective of their young. Of course, this idea was shot down when Nero chose to obey Tiamat and follow the small Dragon. If it had been Nero's mother, wouldn't he have stayed behind? Tiamat was quick to point out this fact as they continued to run away from the big creature that was coming to the river. She could hear Nero's soft pawsteps on the ground next to her. Aware of his position, she was able to avoid crashing into him. That was, for a few moments, anyway. ~You don't know what you're talking about, Lagi, shut up!~ she growled back at her twin. ~If you knew anything, then you'd be the one in control, not me! You're weak, now can it and let me focus!~ In this moment of distraction, Nero moved into the shadows, blending with them perfectly. As the Zorua spoke, Tiamat's attention snapped to the Pokemon. "Shadows...?" the Dragon repeated, head tilted slightly in confusion. She didn't have a sense of shadows, as her only way of seeing was through a sort of echolocation. She saw through sounds and scents, which didn't provide any knowledge for her of shadows. While she knew what a shadow was, she had no working knowledge of where she should be to find them, let alone how to hide in them. Were they big enough to blanket something and keep it safe and out of sight? She could still see the Zorua there, as soundwaves were still bounced back toward her. The soft rustling of the leaves showed her where the Dark-type was. ~What are you talking about? I can take control if I want to! You know that!~ Lagi practically roared, causing Tiamat to flinch to seemingly nothing. The Irate Dragon was living up to her reputation of being easily angered. She huffed, her anger emanating her mind for Tiamat to notice, making it quite obvious that the dominant Dragon had stepped on a nerve. With a twitch of her tail, she tried to focus on Nero, moving in the direction of the circular blob with triangles on it. That was where she was to hide, or at least, that's what she thought. The pounding steps of whatever was pursuing them caused her to move quicker, darting behind a tree, or what she assumed was a tree. Hopefully she'd be safe there. She fell silent, focusing on Nero's position, confused as to why the Pokemon was moving so much, but she chose to remain silent, something her twin seemed to resent. ~Don't ignore me!~ she snarled, her words filled with an implied threat that she may or may not have been able to follow through with. Regardless, the intent was there. ~Unless you want to die now, Lagi, I'd shut up now, if I were you,~ Tiamat retorted. She recognized now wasn't the time to fight, lest their position be betrayed and the creature chasing them attacked. |

A silence fell thick and fast across the river. There were no pokemon remaining for what seemed like miles. All that could run had run away; all that could fly were dots against the blue sky by now. The swimmers had shot downstream; diggers were far beneath the earth, warm and away from the snow. True silence is a rarity. For a second not even the trees rustled, and no wind blew. All of this led to the one obvious factor: silence. Another factor, however, was heightened scent capabilities. No pokemon to blend into that one huge electric scent of life all around, and no wind to confuse the origin. With an almighty crash, a Salamence hurtled from the sky and landed on the snowy ground beside the riverbed, one foot faltering half into the icy water, but it quickly righted itself and stepped forwards, panting and bleeding. What was perhaps more immediately obvious to the Deino and her senses was that the Salamence was not alone. It reared up a little causing its rider to tighten the grip on the reins and with a tug distract the huge Dragon type into lowering its muzzle to the snow once again. Its blue scales were torn and bleeding, and its eyes were wild with pain and confusion. The rider hopped off, feet crunching in the white blanket by the river, and lifted his goggles to rest atop his head and lowered his bandana to hang around his mouth. He pulled in a deep breath and swigged from a hip flask. Paused, swallowed, and swigged again before clipping it back onto his belt. "It wasn't your fault, Shazia," he said to his quietly whining beast, patting her flank so that she hissed through her teeth in pain. "I shouldn't have steered you in the middle of their battle. I should have noticed. Oh well. This place is nice enough, I suppose." He stretched and sighed, and crunched over to loop a rope around a tree that connected to the Salamence's harness. One would be forgiven for wondering why a person's companion would need such restriction; perhaps the Dragon was disobedient. She was tugging at her restraints, desperate for a drink of water, but the man hadn't noticed, his back turned to her and fixed on some sort of a PokeNav now in his hands. "We'll rest here for a while, see if we can't add to the collection, then deliver the spoils to the higher ups in a couple of hours," he was saying to himself. He turned around and saw the Salamence straining at her rope and harness to no avail, and his mouth twitched with amusement. "That's not going to get you anywhere, girl," he said. "You know the deal. Sniff me out some rare pokemon and I'll set you free." <My children are waiting,> the Salamence was whimpering. <They have been waiting for me for weeks. They will starve to death; let me leave.> The man just chuckled distractedly. <I ... I can sense pokemon. I can smell some. A Dragon type. Another one. Let me leave. Let me go back. Please. Please.> As if he could understand the tone change, body language, the desperation in the pokemon, the man turned to her, eyebrow raised. "Bring them to me, then."

Another Dragon- that was another Dragon. Nero froze in place, eyes wide with fright at the sight of a much, much larger Pokemon appearing. Even worse was the fact that the Pokemon had been carrying a human on its back. In the Zorua's experience, "trainers", as other humans called them, weren't great people, and this belief was further emphasized when he observed the state of the Dragon. As far as he could tell, the Pokemon was beyond just unlucky, it was pretty much the walking dead. The Salamence appeared to be approaching death, given how much blood was spilt, but the Tricky Fox didn't entirely understand this concept. It was similar to what had happened to his mother, all that red stuff, and for a terrifying moment, he wondered if this Pokemon would stop moving just as his mother had done. Father would have tried to help the Dragon, even if the Pokemon was far more dangerous than himself, wouldn't he? As far as the child knew, his father really would have tried, and given how much he idolized his parents, Nero believed the Absol would have beaten all odds and succeeded. Forcing himself to breathe normally, Nero straightened up and prepared to leap forward, but he paused as he heard the human mention rare Pokemon. A horrible thought crossed his mind, as it was inspired by a memory from his distant life with his parents. We are rare, so very rare, Nero. Dear Mother! Was this what she meant when she said that? Suddenly the young cub was frightened beyond belief, for he didn't know what would happen to him. So this was the curse of being a rare Pokemon; Nero decided he didn't like the idea, and that he didn't want to be a rare Pokemon anymore. What felt like an honorable heritage suddenly became an undesirable way of life. These thoughts were made all the more prominent when he heard the Salamence's words. It- er, she had a family! This riled the young Zorua to no end, for he greatly disapproved of others interfering with the family lifestyle. "For weeks! I can't stand for this!" He had murmured this to himself, though given the fact that he been close by to Tiamat, there was a chance the Deino had heard his words. Before he could utter anything else though, his body abruptly felt paralyzed, for the Salamence had revealed that she noticed the two children. The mother was about to sacrifice children to save herself! In that instant, Nero wondered if he should help the Pokemon, for it was clearly about to send him to that dreadful trainer. But as his observant eyes watched the Pokemon, he found he longed to help the Pokemon. His mother had been so protective of him, she tried to kill everything that dared threaten his own safety. If Nerina had been in this Salamence's place, then he had no doubt that the Zoroark would sacrifice others to return to him. Mother, guide my instincts! He didn't know what to do: go to aid the Salamence and risk his own fluffy hide, or turn around and run. Cyan blue eyes closed as the child thought hard about what to do when he felt something brush against him. A gentle caress over his head; a loving touch between mother and child, carried on an unexpected breeze. This was the sign he had wanted, and he found his resolve harden. The Dark-type would fight for his freedom, and for the Salamence's. However, there was now the issue of what to do about the Deino that was now beside him, for he had silently crept over to the Pokemon for comfort. The Salamence pointed out the Deino's presence first, which meant the small Dragon was in as much danger as he was in. What was he supposed to do about this female Deino, especially because she was blind? "You have to stay hidden!" Nero whispered to Tiamat as he glanced over at the slightly shorter Pokemon beside him. "I'm going to save that Salamence, and I don't want you to get caught by the human!" If Tiamat was to stay hidden, then Nero believed he would be able to sneak past Rider to help the Dragon. He was a "master" at Hiding and sneaking around, and besides, he was the Illusion Pokemon! While most of his species used their abilities to play pranks on others, Nero perfected it to keep him hidden; he could blend in with the scenery if he wanted, though that wouldn't mask his scent in the slightest. This was more of a use that protected him from humans, rather than predators. |
