well sometimes the computer comes with support for other languages, it really depends on the version of windows you have. Usually the versions called Professional or Ultimate come with extra language support already installed.

@Aster Selene You made a converter?
Does your Defoko folder contains all the 142 wave files?

I replaced my Defoko recently because of nonsense kana, but she still won't sing. It's weird.

Hmm, I had the same problem before, but since I have a backup, I copied Defoko's file there and pasted it in UTAU program's 'voice' file

but in your case, I have only one question, did you download UTAU BEFORE you changed the locale?
Because that could be the problem, in my opinion [Since Defoko is installed with UTAU, without the locale set to Japanese, her VB will corrupt/have weird letters instead of Kanas including the software]
Well, the best thing to do is re-downloading the latest version of UTAU and see if she works this time

Or to make it easier, try downloading her ACT 1.0 instead http://utau2008.xrea.jp/defaultvoice.uar
[After downloading it, open UTAU and DRAG the .uar file onto UTAU and it should start processing the file. NOTE : The file will be in the 'voice' folder ]
Though I'd prefer the one installed with UTAU since the quality is better, but it's totally up to you :3

Guys, Defoko has the weirdest oto.ini ever. Check it and fix it. It will work.
