Welcome to the UTAforum!

UTAU is a Japanese voice-synthesis program used to create singing vocals for music. It is much like the more popular, commercially sold Vocaloid products, but UTAU is freeware!

Using Jap filename voicebanks without Jap locale?

Hey, I recently had to change my computer locale back to English due to some other programs not working properly with Japanese locale.
Using the English patch and Applocale, I can still get UTAU working, but due to command prompt not being able to read moonspeak like this, I can't render songs using voicebanks whose filenames are in Japanese. Is there a workaround for this, or do I just have to deal with changing my locale back and forth when I want to use Japanese UTAUs?

Changing back and forth is the most suitable thing to do.
UTAU can kinda work with kana encoded voicebanks if they're well unzipped (unzipped while in Japanese locale or using Applocale with Japanese for the unzipper program) and using resampler.dll instead the .exe resamplers -I don't remember if you needed applocale with UTAU, too-... but it's very buggy and prone to close by errors so I don't recomend it at all.

If you have to switch a lot, a fix could be to traslate yourself the kana voicebank into romaji (changing the kana filenames in the voicebank into romaji and traslating the oto in notepad while in Japanese locale) and then use that full romaji voicebank normally in English locale.
But if you do this, do not redistribute the romaji-fied voicebank as that is normally out of the rules of voicebank usage. You just change it for personal use.
