I agree, you should take away the sleeves. Maybe you should give more accessories like necklaces or chains. You could even add a wristband with play buttons and all that stuff. |

This kinda goes along with what I said the first go around. I like that you're adding more detail but she still looks plain to me. I think throwing her symmetry out of whack would be a good idea. And detached sleeves are overdone. Moonst4r has a good idea with wristbands. Maybe you could also try tattoos or something(don't know if I suggested that before though...cause I am far too lazy to re-read my post lol ) |

I also still believe she looks plain. Sorry if my first comment seemed rude, I just seem to have a hard time giving advice to everyone that makes an UTAU very generic looking other than to say "it's time to start from scratch". Here's my problem with this design and many others like it. I feel as though when people design an UTAU, they get this idea that is MUST be recognizable as an UTAU. Which is not the case. The voice speaks for the UTAU; it's what makes people realize that the character is actually an UTAU. The design comes second to that. Sure, slap on some headphones or some cool clothing lights. But don't limit yourself to those UTAU design cliches. It's boring and makes you look un-creative. I say go for a design that you think can stand alone. If it's uninteresting as just an original character, then it's no better as an UTAU. And that does not mean make something so crazy that it's just ugly. People like to believe that ugly = unique. It doesn't. Although this is all coming from my standpoint, which I am very harsh on character designs. So.. you don't have to take my advice. It's just my opinion. |

Im starting to get really annoyed now, her clothing is based off what actual DJs wear: tshirt, headphones, jacket, trainers and jeans. All of the stupid crap you've suggested has NOTHING to do with what DJs wear and is starting to make me doubt that you know what a DJ looks like at all. Sure she has the detached sleeves but you know what? Most UTAUs have them so why cant I have them on my UTAU? I like them so they're staying. At least she has a good, well thought out design and decent artwork unlike most which are quickly put together, based on normal woman's clothing eg, dresses, skirts. Also can I just say that it's unfair that you judge character design down to 'oh she has detached sleeves, everyone does that its so unoriginal!' and 'her clothes are black, CRYPTON RIP OFF!!!'. Think about this now, it's not MY fault I came into the UTAU community 4+ years late, I didn't know vocaloid or UTAU existed until I stumbled across the Miku skin for Google Crome and it's not my fault everyone bases their design on Miku either. Kelly started out as a Vocaloid fanmade late last year before I knew about UTAU or in fact other non-crypton vocaloids. Of course she's gonna have a few features that resemble miku (the sleeves) but honestly that's the only thing taken from mikus design, the rest is all me! The only reason her clothes are black is because the CDJ units happen to be black. Other Utaus copy most of miku/len/rin's design - at least give me a bit of respect for not sticking a shitty sailor outfit or skirt on her! If you like bland, multicoloured elf-Utaus with weeboo backstories and awful designs that's fine by me but don't dis my UTAU for trying to be professional-looking. |

You don't need other people to approve of it. If you like it the way it is than keep it that way. 'nuff said. *reads Iris' post* What she said. Edited by Rabbit, Sep 10 2011, 10:17 AM.

Look, you asked us for our opinions and we gave them to you. There is no need for you to get upset. We told you what we thought because that's what you asked of us. You're probably right...we probably don't know how DJs look. How many people here would unless they are a DJ themselves or have met a DJ face to face hmm? Not many. And on that note...you never told us she was supposed to look professional now did you? You simply told us she was based off of the equipment and that you liked drawing her KEI style. Based on that I said you could keep the color scheme but suggested you add much more detail to her so that her outfit closely resembled the equipment for people who have no idea what the equipment looks like(I myself had to look up images of it so I could give you those suggestions). We're not mind readers, Kellydreamcast. Nor can we see through time and look at the past to see what your UTAU was originally. If life worked like that well...the world would be quite the creepy place let me tell ya. You need to tell us these things or we're going to assume that's all you want her to look like, "Equipment + Kei style" and suggest more detail instead of a professional look. No one here is trying to dis your UTAU either. No one likes having their UTAU torn apart afterall or called a "multicolored elf with a weeboo backstory"(which I might add most other people don't appreciate either). Like I said before...we were trying to help you like you asked us. We gave you our opinions and it is solely up to you if you want to listen or not. They are our OPINIONS after all. If you don't like them...there's no need to blow up at us or anything. Simply, "Thank you for your opinions everyone but I think I'll keep her the way she is." will do. I'm sorry to break it to you Kelly, but this community may never see the DJ influence in your UTAU. The reason we all view it as an UTAU cliche is because that's how it looks, no matter where your inspiration derived. That's why people suggested that you add details to make it to make it more distinct. And you may find it unfair to say that detached sleeves are unoriginal, but they just are here. You're walking into a whole new world full of different standards than the one you resided in before. You can't expect things to go your way, especially when you're asking for opinions. You said "at least she has a good, well thought out design" but in all honesty, she doesn't. She's boring, and doesn't execute the concept of simplicity well. And that's my opinion. And I may not be the only one who ends up feeling the same way when they see her. If you've decided that her current design stays, then you're just going to have to deal with it. I'm not trying to be the big baddy here. But I love it when people take their ideas to the next level. Wanna create a character based off of DJ equipment? Hearing that, I expect to see more than just some chick in a black jacket and rainbow shoes. That's like dumbing down your idea, which turns out to be bland and unimpressive. You could go further, if you wanted. If not, then don't sit here and ask for advice and then throw a hissy fit over being misunderstood. It's childish. Edited by meungom, Sep 10 2011, 11:20 AM.

Looked at everyone's post Agrees. I know you're upset right now, but you've got to face the truth. Designing an UTAU is all about originality. Arm Sleeves are over-used so you could have long gloves instead with some kind of neon design? When I mean OVERUSED, I mean OVER USED. I can find more than 15 UTAU Newcomers which have arm sleeves, and most that progress change the design, so don't make the mistake right now. What Hello8Bit said, it looks.... bland. Doesn't shoot out at me like an inspiring UTAU which wants to sing. Mabye try out some, lighter colours (She could keep some black) But not all please?? It's not interseting

.... -raises hand- I suppose I'm the only one that likes the design. o n o; Your design is okay, but you'll have to take some constructive criticism along with it as well. One of my Utaus isn't very original and I do get some people IRL telling me so. Best thing to do is take the criticism and move along. It's your choice to change it or not~ |

Hey, don't worry, I went through this exact same thing when trying to design my own UTAU; changing something on your UTAU but continuing to get criticism can be a very frustrating experience. If the criticism you're getting upsets you, it's best to take a deep breath, step away from the topic for a day or so, and then return when you know you can keep a cool head. Changing an UTAU design a lot in a short time can be really frustrating, and it's good to take breaks so that you don't get so overwhelmed. As for the design, I really like all of the little details you added all over. The pink box-thingies at the top of the detached sleeves look really nice, the shoes and pants are awesome-sauce, and I really like the one oddly-painted nail, which gives this a little pizazz. The shirt is okay, but may be a little plain, and I would hesitate to put words in an UTAU design. (Though it isn't particularly important that there are no words on the design, that's just my personal preference and it makes no difference to me whether or not you change that particular aspect.) As for the detached sleeves, I agree with earlier comments in that the concept isn't particularly original; however, this does not mean that you have to get rid of the sleeves entirely. While I would also support turning them into gloves, or may even just attached sleeves, I think you may be able to pull off the detached sleeves by giving an original flair to an unoriginal concept. Try changing the shape so that they aren't arm-cones, or maybe putting giant holes in them to make cool designs, or perhaps making them asymmetrical. If you make a drastic enough change to the idea that gives it your own personal touch in a big way, I think that others may come to view it as acceptable. Don't give up on this, I believe in you! :D Edited by NicolaCola, Sep 10 2011, 12:49 PM.
