Three voicebank types from one; I think it's possible

Yeah I did a new topic again...o.O

Anyway, I noticed that a vcv reclist basically has all vowel/consonant transitions you could possibly need to make a cv-vc and a cv voicebank, too. So you could get all three voicebank types through otoing one vcv voicebank, which would logically have a pretty big oto.ini file.

For example these strings from Ritsu's reclist:

ka_ka_ki_ka_ku_ke_ka
ki_ki_ku_ka_ke_ki_ke
ku_ku_ki_ko_ka_ko_ki
ke_ke_ku_ko_ke_ko_ko
ko_ku_n_ka_n_ku
n_ki_n_ke_n_ko

In vcv you would get aka, aki, ika and so on through otoing,
in cv you could get ka,ki,ku,ke and ko
and in cv-vc you could get ka, a k, ki, i k, ku, u k, ke, e k, ko, o k and n k from it.

So from the logical view it would be totally possible. Instead of recording three voicebank types you could record one, which would be all three of them! Did someone already try that out? Do you see any problems that could occur with such a voicebank? I will definitely try that out and tell you if that works well.

Actually, all you need to make a CV bank from a VCV bank is to take the "-" away from the first sample.

But, here's the problem:
1) CV takes up way less space than VCV, and someone probably won't want to download a VCV bank just to use the CV.
(That's kind of like downloading a giant megapack of MP3s for only one MP3.)

2) CV VC sounds stupid and was made as a way to get around recording VCV. It seriously sounds /worse/ than CV.

I see your point in the first one, that really is a problem. But i don't think that cv-vc sounds "worse" than cv...I mean look at this one or this. I don't know what experiences you made with cv-vc but I think it sounds pretty good...

I've gotten a couple of voicebacks with more than one type in them, and I like being able to choose between them according to the needs of the song. That being said, they all have different samples for all the different types, so I haven't found anyone trying out your idea yet. I find this idea quite interesting! Especially as it would make having a consistent voicebank easier if it works.
And if not, it's still adding to the community.
Experimenting is almost always worth it.

The maximum number of lines in the oto.ini that UTAU can handle is 32768 (2^15). -Experiment done duplicating aliases.-
I've been testing also about max number of wav files and voicebank size but I got bored when the voicebank reached over 7200 wav samples and 1.2 GB and the voicebank still worked. I guess the maximum number of samples could be 2^15 too (only using one line for sample in the oto.ini).
But not sure about file size. As if your voicebank is over 2GB in a single file (.zip, for example) it can be unusable in the old Windows that use FAT16. I doubt it would reach the 16 TB (maximum of NTFS) so new Windows may be safe.

But I've read the issue with big voicebanks was smaller that these almost impossible to get values.

Anyway I really doubt you'll reach unusable limits. So technically should there be no issue.
But if you want to give a chance you should try first a small amount of samples first and check if the result is worth your time.

lol...
I have already tried to make a all-in-one VB. I just couldn't finish it cause the quality wasn't that good, and I ran out of time to remake it. But I didn't use a plain VCV reclist, I changed it a bit, and changed the recording technique a bit too. But for all effects, an all-in-one VB would work pretty well.
And it even got the interest of a friend of mine, cause he doesn't know how to use VCV, but he could use the CV part, and maybe start to adventure himself little by little on the CV part. But as I said, I couldn't release it.

I'm pretty sure I've seen banks that were vcv but otod to be cv as well o.o

I thought that was the standard for VCV standalones? I mean it just kind of seems to be common sense.

As for the CV VC, if you use the "kakekikokuk" method instead of the "kak kek kik kok kuk" method it would work. :D
I will push my ships on you, always.
