Like the title says, I want to get involved with the UTAU community. (Y'know, do collaborative work and the like) I've been a lurker in the fandom since I got my new computer MONTHS ago (though I was never very active years prior to then) and I feel like, as an UTAU user, I'm missing out on what could be a lot of fun. But here's the thing. If I were to start collaborating with other UTAU users and such, I wouldn't really have much to bring to the table. I'm not a good artist, my pitch bend and envelope editing is amateur at best, and I've never studied music and I lack an ear for pitch, so I'd never be able to make UST's. I feel as though my 'working with other UTAU users' would be more like leeching off of the hard work they provide. So... What do? |

I think your problem may just stem from the fact that you think whatever you do has to be the best or you're not doing your part and this my friend...is not true. Collaborating...is a bunch of users getting together and using whatever they have to the best of their abilities. It also involves(or should involve) everyone working together and helping each other out. Sure you can assign pitch bends to one person, artwork to another, video editing to another, mixing to someone else...but in the end everyone should also check everyone elses work so you all can work together and tweak what needs to be tweaked and do your best to come up with the best work that you can come up with. You may think you don't have much to offer...but I'm pretty sure you do. Collabs are also there so you can get help with what you do. You just gotta jump on in and don't be afraid to hurt yourself XD |

People are always willing to help you in the UTAU community; just asking a few questions goes a long way. ^_^ And if you collaborate with others, it's also a big learning experience! You can ask questions, get feedback, and a lot more. |

Y'all quit that. In a collabo group, theres a lot more to do if you feel lacking on the artistic side (BTW, we artists generally end up needing some form of help), but whether it's providing the voice, rendering, otoing, PR, coding... Theres a lot you can do that you can learn technically, rather than artistically. That said, just do your best and people will appreciate it, too. <3 |

Collabs are more than just one person doing music and one person doing art. When you are in a GOOD colab it trully is a group effort. The best collabs have multiple people in each department who help each other out/compliment one another. IE in ResoNation one of our composers didn't have much experience outside of MIDI and videogame music. He composed the song in MIDI, mapped out his ideas, then we had a team of 2-3 writers come up with lyrics together for it and the art team of 2 people propose different draft ideas, at the same time we had our other composer fleash out the MIDI concept into an orchestrated piece. Then another team member recruited an IRL friend record a live guitar line to finish the song off. Beyond the people who were directly hands on there were people like me who though my main job was managing the website and doing PR I also helped proved feedback and helped organize the team. When you pool talents you can accomplish great things and even if you have little musical experience you can still contribute. I am still kinda sad VO's The Vocaloid Campus's EPI (Engloid Project Idea) Workgroup fell through. I was totally up for that and could have lent my experience in organizing them. Why don't we have an UTAforum Collab? I have been a part of enough both successful/insucessfull collabs in both Vocaloid/UTAU and beyond (Pokemon ROM hacking, RPG Maker projects, etc.) to probably point you in the right direction. As a group we could all play to our strengths and accomplish a lot more, faster, than we could on our own. Edited by Hentai, Oct 19 2011, 11:51 PM.

For sure! Based on my experience with the UtaGame, i think that this kind of a collaboration is definitely possible. |
