So I've been getting two of my friends into UTAU, even to the point that we're developing our characters and they both already have recorded CV Japanese banks [their UTAUs haven't been revealed or anything yet]. But long story short they're coming over tomorrow, and we might be doing some vcv. Wish me luck n.n. I understand how it works. I think I got this. ...Have any last piece of advice you'd like to give me before I do this? Edited by Fadingfebruary, Nov 10 2011, 07:33 PM.

Hmm, well use your natural voice. stay consistent. A metronome is good for keeping lengths consistent, I used a metronome at 100 BPM. (just be careful not to record the ticks P: ) Uhm, practice your pronunciation beforehand. If they are noobs, be sure to explain to them japanese r's, t's, k's, and p's. Those are the hardest. And the a's and o's. Be VERY careful with keeping vowels consistent. for VV combinations like a e a i etc, put NO SPACES. whatsoever. Well, dont put any spaces ANYWHERE except for the natural stops at sounds like t, p, and g. Try not to make these too big. Hm.. oh, and make sure when you alias it, put the aliases in Kana. :3 |

Thanks, SVutau. We will n.n And thanks Aleksander, that actually will help a lot. I'll just show them your post LOL. I don't think I need to worry too much about their pronounciation because they took 4 years of Japanese in high school and love Japanese, lol. Still I'll make sure to emphasize their pronounciation. My original plan was to just have them time their recordings along with Namine Ritsu's vcv. But I can't get Ritsu's bank to unzip in hiragana/kana/whatever but I downloaded Neko Kanochi's vcv and it unzipped fine. Do you think that's a good idea to use the bank like that? x3 (Obviously I know I'll have to make some adjustments to the oto, but it should save me a lot of time, right? Or is this a bad idea LOL) |

With the m's, there aren't any spaces either. Oh, and Ritsu's zip is a drag and drop. Open UTAU, leave the editor blank, drag Ritsu's ZIP, and drop it onto the editor part. A message will show up. Press yes. It will install the bank. Just keep on pressing yes. My UTAU is a drag and drop as well! Mod Note: Please edit your post. Do not double post. Edited by Peachbite, Nov 11 2011, 12:24 PM.

Only reason Ritsu's bank would be gibberish are if you don't have correct locale or he didn't download all the way. If you can't correctly open the ZIP file, that happened, just try again. Ritsu's site and a few other UTAU sites do that sometimes (Hakuapoooooid). Anyways, if I recall correctly Neko's VCVs aren't in the standard oto format (Neither are Ritsu's 1.5.1 VCVs). I uploaded Ritsu's 1.5 otos, which do follow standard VCV format for the Ritsu reclist, so feel free to download and use them if you have Hiragana support. Though, I actually don't recommend Ritsu's reclist for 7-mora (If you're doing 5-mora, I recommend Tei's) anymore. It wastes time and makes you have a lot of multiples. Ruko male VCVs have a better reclist, but he doesn't follow standard, so yeah. Standard isn't 100% necessary for VCVs, but it's a great place to start and everyone can understand them. (Upon double checking, turns out Neko's are almost standard - just change the Cutoff to either -600 or -700 and you can customly adjust them yourself. Also, Neko follows the Ritsu reclist. Not too bad of a bank to emulate.) |

Tei's VCVs miss things. I recommend LOKE, Haruka Nana, Soune Taya and Hibiki Shinji's 5Mora lists (I don't know the name of the one they use though... Might be one of NHPs), it has everything you need, in the nice 5mora format. 7mora lists are... well, they're okay, but they do waste time if you're not accustomed to VCV workings already. 8mora are fast but you need to be able to hold notes for a long time and have consistent vowels otherwise the bank will sound odd. |
