FORUM GUIDELINES IN FORMAL NETIQUETTE 1) Read the forum rules. Even if you're excited to be a member of a new forum and can't wait to join in, take the time to find the group policy page and read it thoroughly. Some forums are more particular than others regarding Internet etiquette 2) Lurk a little before you dive right in. Read a number of posts, or check out the group's archives. Get a feel for the tone of the forum so you can participate accordingly. 3) Remember your face doesn't show. Words alone can convey sentiment, but without benefit of inflection or facial expression, they can be misconstrued. Use descriptive wording, emoticons or .gifs to ensure your meaning is clear. By the same token, don't jump to conclusions about another person's intent in posting an unclear comment. When in doubt, ask for clarification 4) Type in lowercase or standard case, not in all caps. By the rules of netiquette, all caps equates to shouting. If you type with all caps, you will annoy and possibly offend other forum members. DO NOT SHOUT! Please put in the extra effort to find and use the Shift key 5) Say online exactly what you would say in person. In other words, use common sense. If you wouldn't say it to the person in real life, you should not type it in a forum. 6) Be respectful. Internet etiquette is similar to standard etiquette in this area. Appreciate that your opinion is one of many. You can disagree with another person without being disrespectful or rude online 7) Ignore Trolling posts, as authors may be subjected to banning. Ignore these posts—no matter how inflammatory—and eventually the inflammatory poster will get bored and move on 8) Religion, Politics, and Other Such IssuesThis topic is clearly stated in the Forum Posting Policies. There will be no tolerance for preaching, attempts to convert others to a particular religion or belief system or otherwise using this forum to engage in any bashing of another's religion, gender, sexual orientation, race, political persuasion, or stances on social issues such as abortion or same-sex marriage. 9) Patience and Tolerance Remember that not all readers have your native language as their native language, so make allowance for possible misunderstandings and unintended discourtesies. Remember that the absence of visual clues normally associated with face to face communication provides an ideal environment for being misunderstood. Be tolerant of newcomers and their desire to learn and to derive support. If you are using humor make sure to clearly label it as such. Humor is usually indicated by a smiley or the word "grin" 10) No flaming is allowed. The Definition of flame: To rant, to speak or write incessantly and-or rabidly on some relatively uninteresting subject, personal drama or with a patently ridiculous attitude or with hostility towards a particular person or group of people. This topic is clearly stated in the Forum Posting Polices. **Please note** Offenders will be given a gentle reminder/warning, depending upon the severity of the non-compliance, membership may be subject to suspension or ban for non-compliance to the above Forum Posting Polices. Thank you for making this board a welcoming community for everyone! I created this forum so that people in SL who are looking for a suitable mate can find one at ease. |
