Fire Lizards (originally known as dragonets) are a native species of Pern, present before the colonization of pern. They are, in a sense, primitive Dragons, because they were the genetic source for Kitti Ping's original 18 dragons. Being very much like dragons, they share many of the same abilities. Characteristics Fire Lizards are about the size of a large bird. They come in all the same colors as dragons, and the temperament of said colors correspond to their larger cousins, unlike dragons however, men and women can Impress any color of fire lizard, and they do not need to be a certain age to do so. Also, a person can have multiple fire lizards. Fire Lizards lack the ability to communicate in words, but can have limited success telepathically communicating pictures and thoughts. They are, however, much more affected by emotions and events around them, to the point of hysteria. There seems to be a group consciousness, on a basic level, that allows all fire lizards to experience large events. For example, the new fire lizards of the ninth pass knew about the volcano eruption at landing, even though they were not alive for it. There has also been speculation that fire lizards are immortal, or so long lived as to appear so, as they don't appear to age and no one has ever seen one to die of old age or disease. Fire Lizards are very sociable creatures, they travel in fairs and love to sing. History Fire Lizards have been present on Pern long before humans colonized the planet. Their genetic code was speculated, during the first pass, to be divergent evolution from a type of sea creature. Tunnel snakes are the other branch. It is unknown how or why they developed such unique characteristics, such as breathing fire, telekinesis, or telepathy. They were, at the time of Landing, exposed to Mentasynth, an alien compound intended to strengthen their latent telepathic talents. During the first pass, they were kept as pets and it was known that they could, and would, protect people and animals from thread and other natural dangers. However, By the Ninth Pass, fire lizards were little more than a myth or legend. ((Pern Wiki)) Books' references to Flitters: Menolly, a MasterwomanHarper, was one of the first to impress a firelizard during the 9th Pass, and at that time she was just the youngest daughter of a Holder at Half-Circle. She had Impressed 9 firelizards in a cave that she helped the mother Gold move the eggs into originally, and later impressed another bronze- poll- when a holder's son nearly dropped the hatching egg, and its inhabitant saw her first. She had a Gold- Beauty- three Bronzes- Rocky, Diver, and Poll- three Browns- Brownie, Mimic, and Lazybones- two Greens- Aunties one and two- and Blue Uncle. Mirrim was another who impressed firelizards, and she later impressed a Green Dragon as well. The Southern Continent held more firelizards than the North, until they were rediscovered by these people and on the southern continent. __________________________________ Isre's Firelizard Information>>> The Colors of Firelizards are as follows: Gold - the largest female, the queen. has authority and lays the largest clutches that are also most likely to survive. They will have at least one gold or indigo egg. Indigo - the second largest female, smaeller queen. has authority over all but elders and lays good-sized clutches with chances of two queen eggs. Bronze - the largest male, almost the same size as the queen, the 'king', has authority and almost always will be the flitter to catch a gold or indigo. Red - 50% chance of being male, 50% chance female - next largest, the males are somewhat bigger than Browns. they are more agile than browns but are more powerful as well. They are quick-witted, but females never clutch at all. Reds are considered the second 'kings', with the power of authority over all but the queens and elder bronzes. Brown - next largest male, built sturdily and are not as large or powerful as bronzes nor as agile as greens and blues. Middleman, may catch a small gold or an indigo. Olivine- the next largest male, are long, lean, but more powerfully built than Browns. They have less staying power than Reds but are slightly more agile than either large male. Olivines are infertile, meaning they cannot sire clutches. Pink - female, next smallest female, much more agile than greens but with almost no staying power, they are vain and childish. They never clutch. Blue- second smallest male, they are fast and agile, patient and calm. they have less staying power than reds or browns but more than smokes, and can usually catch greens and smaller reds, sometimes pinks. Green - second smallest female, fractionally smaller than pinks and blues, they have no authority and are bad mothers, however they can clutch. Green clutches are usually eaten by snakes when left alone by the mother, but at the Weyr, they survive. White- second rarest, these are neuters, or sports, and are neither male nor female, though they generally react to being called 'he' or 'she' in affirmative for one or the other. They are perfectly white, but have undertones of all other colors hiden except in bright light. Ice-smallest female, they are a pale, almost white blue-white. They are fertile and Rise twice a turn. clutch once a turn up to 6 small eggs. Smoke- male, smallest and rarest of all flitters, they are lightning fast and quick thinkers, often seeming more similar to dragons than flitters, with clearer telekinesis. smokes are super-rare, only occuring in indigo clutches once in a while. Mulitple firelizards can be impressed by one person, and nearly all firelizards will live on if their human passes away, but will not re-impress. Impression for Firelizards is mainly about who they see first and who feeds them first, though occasionally a firelizard has a specific human in mind when they hatch. These are the ones whose ancestors had mentasynth-enhancements. Firelizards eggs are usually dull colors, even the gold or indigo eggs, so it is hard to know which is which, but some develop markings that a trained eye can see. please notice that there are to be no premade mutations OTHER than the ones listed above. The official mutties may be premade, not including smokes and golds, but no true mutties will be premade. There may or may not be IC rp'd hatchings which could include some true mutations, but until a hatching reviels this, none exist. ***exceptions: Geri's Tawny Leon is just an offshoot of Brown and is allowed. Also allowed: up to 2 striped flitters, offshoots of green or blue (must have blue or green somewhere in their coloring), up to three navy-colored flitters, offshoots of blue. |
