Physical Description

Djyn is typical rava viera -- he is tall, white-haired and dark-skinned; the fur on his ears is the same light chocolate colour as his skin's pigmentation. He wears little other than a pair of loose fitting trousers that are slit at the back, to prevent his tail from being constricted. His white hair is kept tied back in a loose ponytail, which dusts gently against his bare back. He wears no shoes, as conventional male shoes offer no use to the viera's deer-like gait.

Personality

Djyn is a collected character who rarely expresses his thoughts unless necessary. He is inquisitive, to the point of abandoning his village to explore the world of Ivalice. He enjoys reading and being around people, which is why he continually finds himself gravitating towards Rabanastre. The female viera speak of it when they meet ocassionally.

As a relatively young viera, he has little experience of the world, even for a viera, and this can show in his behavioural patterns. He often finds himself falling into repetitive habits that he does just because it has always been done, and not because there is any desired outcome; his mannerisms could be considered naive.

He is often unaware that he is being treated differently because he is a male viera, and assumes this is how people are usually treated. He often tries to replicate hume behaviour in an attempt to fit in more, but it can come across as peculiar.

History

Djyn's life in Azhiri Village was what he would consider boring. Viera usually either choose to become hunters or salve-makers. Djyn specialised as a support to the hunters, who defended the hidden village from fiend attacks, but found it dull and repetitive; he longed for the cities where hundreds of different people collected and talked and shared. The peaceful quietness of his village drove Djyn to the point where he decided to leave. As this is a most heinous crime amongst his people, Djyn is no longer considered a viera by the others in his village.

Other Information

Unlike the female viera who listen to "the Wood", the males listen to "the Mist", who they believe is the rival to the female's Spiritual Leader. The Wood nurtures and protects whilst the Mist tests and attacks. The Wood is old and stoic, whilst the Mist is always re-newing itself, never remaining in one place. It is these differences that forced the viera apart. Whether viera can hear both, or if both genders are naturally inclined to their own, no one knows.

Roleplay Sample

"You are foresaking the Word, yet you still pray at His shrine?" Karn's harsh words echoed behind Djyn, but he ignored them until he finished up his ritual. Standing gracefully, he turned to the leader of the village, his features stoic.
"Merely a habit. I go now, not to return. Be well." He moved towards the exit of the village but was stopped by Karn's firm grasp on his shoulder. His sharp fingers dug into Djyn's shoulder.
"You cannot leave. You know that the Mist will not let you return once you go. He is not as forgiving as I." There was an edge of pleading to Karn's voice that caused Djyn's resolution to waver slightly.
"You know I do not belong here. I grow restless."
"You will find your Path. You are impatient."
"It is for that reason I must leave. Impatience is not befiting of the viera." He paused briefly. "I am not... not one of you." Djyn knew his how his words would be taken; he was intentionally hurting Karn to make this easier.
"I see. If that's how it is, then I shouldn't stop you. It is unlikely that the Mist will allow you safe passage through the wood, anyway." Karn's words were harsh, but Djyn knew it was for his own benefit that he had said it; Karn was trying to protect his own feelings. Still, the viera's words had a spiteful edge to them.
"Stop me?" Replied Djyn, his face registering doubt. "You've seen the Mist. His power is weakening. How long until he loses all his power--?" The slap echoed across the plateu, where several salve-making viera turned their heads to the sound. Djyn's hand rose to his cheek where Karn had struck him; the two had never had a physical altercation before, and whilst Djyn understood Karn's feelings, he still felt shocked at his action.
"I guess there is nothing left for me here, then." Djyn turned towards the village's exit and began the walk out. "I hope you can lead the viera through these tough times, and live well... brother."
