Introduction Here is some basic information to give you an idea of what you are dealing with. Each subject below contains a link to a more in depth thread to find out what the various trade sets are, which ones are best for your nation and how to get them. If you lose a trade try not collecting until you have fixed it because you would be losing income by collecting with decrease income boosters. Infrastructure Is the most important thing in the game. Infra determines the size of your population and the number of nation improvements and therefore, your overall income. Depending on trade and other modifiers you will get an avg. increase of 85 citizens per 10 infra and for every 1000 citizens you will be able to buy an improvement. As you buy more infrastructure the costs and upkeep bills will also go up but so will your income. Remember, always buy infra in blocs of 10 This will help lessen the impact of increasing prices. As your level of infrastructure increases you will come up against several bumps where Infra cost and upkeep rise sharply. To avoid a major loss of income due to these bumps all players should perform what are know as Infra Jump, the first infra jump occurs at 1K infra level, second and 2K infra, 3rd at 3K infra and so on up to 8k infra. Trades & Resources Are the second most important thing in the game. A good trade set is the deciding factor on whether a nation will grow quickly or drag itself like a corpse. The resources that you obtain from trading have 3 primary capabilities. In order of importance, they can: Boost your Population, reduce the cost of Infra (the most important thing in the game) and increase Happiness. Among the secondary effects are to increase income (happiness>income), reduce bills, improve the environment, increase soldier efficiency, reduce military costs and increase land. Certain combinations of resources you get through trade, give you very useful Bonus Resources. It is generally accepted that the best resources are: Wheat, Fish, Lumber, Aluminum, Iron, Marble and water. The best Bonus Resource is Construction. Everyone should try to get Construction as a bonus resources because it lowers the cost of infra and accelerates growth. Plan your trade set based on the best fit with your default resources and remember, every slots counts Remember trading with nations within your own team color gives you a +1 happiness bonus. So if all your trade partners are on the same color (should be aqua) you get a minimum of +5 happiness or +20 income boost. Make sure you don't have any duplicate resources as they dont give you any added benefits, only 1 counts. Having duplicate resources is an offense punishable by death! Everyone should also have a Harbor improvement which gives you an additional trade slot and thus, the chance to get more bonus resources. The Ivory Horn covers the expense of buying the Harbor improvement so, make sure you become a full member and apply for the Harbor grant. Government Despite what you might think, having dictatorship doesn't necessarily make you an evil genius and having democracy doesn't make your population automatically happy and productive. Instead various government forms give you different bonuses or negatives. In general the best form of government is Monarchy because it gives you the best bonuses and has not negative effects Government stances on issues like nuclear power, immigration and crime also have a minor effect on your nation. Religion What kind of religion your nation has is absolutely inconsequential. What is important is that you select the type of religion that your people want. Selecting the religion desired by your people gives you a +1 happiness bonus. So even if you think Voodoo is a blasphemous practice, if your people want Voodoo thats what you should give them because in return they give you more money (income is the only religion that counts in CN). Happiness The happier your population the more they will earn. There are several factors that determine your population's happiness: -Trades are the single most important factor -Improvements (stadiums are the best) -Religion (always choose what they want). -Government (monarchy is a good happiness boosting choice) -Environment (which you dont have much control on) -Population Density (keep it below 70 and you are golden) 1 unit of happiness = 2 income (without taking in account any income boosters), therefore 1 happiness is always > than 1 income. Always keep your taxes at 28% even if it makes your population angry. Technology Due to its cost its not easily accessible to new nations. Once you get your Ivory Horn aid packages buy 5 units of tech so that you can get the Construction and Automobile bonus resource (if you have the appropriate trades). All new nations should be tech sellers. This is a practice that allows nations with cheap technology to sell it to the bigger nations for net profits as high as 900K. Selling tech is the absolute best way for new nations to earn lots of money and grow quickly. As your nation grows slowly begin buying your way to 15 tech. Up to 15 tech you get a substantial happiness bonus. Even nations with as much as 35-40 tech can still be tech sellers and make lots of profit while still helping the alliance overall. Improvements These are great assets as they can improve the various aspects of your nation. The most important improvement is the Harbor. The harbor allows you to have 2 more trades and more bonus resources. After the harbor you should buy 5 of each stadiums/banks/factories. Land Despite what you might think, land is actually one of the least useful features in the game. The main purpose of land is to keep your population density low. As long as you are under 70 pop. density you don't really need land. It also gives a very small population boost, 1 citizen for 2 miles of land (infra is a much much more effective way of pop boosting with avg. 85 citizens for 10 infra). Finally, land also gives a small advantage against spy attacks which however don't become a factor until 10K nation strength (new nations need not worry about this). Events Always choose the option that gives you, in order of importance: more population > more happiness > more income. Remember 1 happiness > 1 income There is no catch or downside involved. Simply choose in the order dictated above. For negative events simply reverse the order above. Mentoring The Ivory Horn offers a great feature that all new members should take advantage of. We have a mentoring department where you can be assigned a personal mentor that will follow the development of your nation, give you constant advice, help you with various issues and answer any question that you might have. Behavior Finally always maintain a mature and respectful attitude towards your fellow Ivory Horn members as well as towards other CN players. Insulting and threats will not be tolerated and are not becoming of a member of The Ivory Horn. Remember the game has a report feature so any offensive messages can get you banned. |
