Technology Explained Technology works similar to infrastructure in the game but is much more expensive at a base cost of $10,000. Like infrastructure, the more tech you buy the more expensive it gets. You cannot sell technology as you can land or infrastructure. Also, unlike infrastructure, technology does not have a maintenance cost. You can reduce the cost of technology through certain resources and nation improvements. Technology costs can be reduced by many factors such as: * Resources like Gold (-5%) * Bonus Resources like Microchips (-8%) * Improvements like Universities (-10%) * National Wonders like a Great University (-10%) In total, Technology costs can be reduced 43% Remember, once you pass the 15 tech hurdle always buy tech in blocs of 10 to avoid unnecessary waist of cash Also nations whose tech cost per unit are below 24K should be tech sellers as they can make as much as 900K net income per trade. I highly recommend that you remain a tech seller up to the point of 1999 infrastructure. Simply keep a minimum of 15 tech for happiness purposes and keep doing deals. You will be filthy rich and your nation filthy big in no time. Once you pass this hurdle you can start buying tech for your own nation. Remember, above 15 tech, always buy in blocs of 10. A good ration of infra to tech is 10:1. Economic benefits Technology makes your people happy. Here's how the game currently figures it: * Technology = 0 then happiness = -1 * Technology > 0 and ¡Ü .5 then happiness = +0 * Technology > .5 and ¡Ü 1 then happiness = +1 * Technology > 1 and ¡Ü 3 then happiness = +2 * Technology > 3 and ¡Ü 6 then happiness = +3 * Technology > 6 and ¡Ü 10 then happiness = +4 * Technology > 10 and ¡Ü 15 then happiness = +5 * Technology > 15 then happiness = 5 + (Techpurchased * .02) up to level 200 * Technology <30 Income bonus with Uranium resource Technology decreases infrastructure upkeep costs up to a maximum 10% discount based on the following formula: (2 * Technology Level) / Nation Strength = Percent off infrastructure upkeep bill Technology level 6 or greater also helps your environment. Military benefits Battle outcomes are affected by your technology level. Having a higher technology level allows you to equip your soldiers with better weapons and get more kills. The effect works for both attacking and defending nations. Here's the current equation: Normal Number of Kills + (Normal Number of Kills * Tech Purchased * 10%) Technology also allows you to purchase more powerful aircraft and increases the effectiveness of both tanks and cruise missiles. Other benefits In addition to the above benefits, technology is also required in order to receive certain improvements to your nation: * Automobiles - Level 5 * Construction - Level 5 * Tanks - Level 10 * Microchips - Level 10 * Radiation Cleanup - Level 15 * Cruise Missiles - Level 15 * Bills Reduction - Up to level 30 * Nuclear Weapons - Level 75 |
