Happiness The little smiley that shows up next to the Population Happiness section is an indicator of how happy your people are. If you highlight its right side, it will show you a number next to it. That is your happiness level. Happiness affects how much income your people make (and you tax) so please, do not try to raise your happiness at the expense of gross income. Each point of happiness ALWAYS gives you +2$ income per person. However, if you have any income boosting improvements, it will also boost the happiness return. Thus, if you have a bank (+7% income), each point of happiness = 2.16 $ (base $2.00 + 7%). If you have 5 banks, each point of happiness = 2.7$ (base $2.00 + 35%). The simplest way to find out how much income 1 point of happiness equals is by dropping your Defcon by 1 level. So write down your Avg. Gross Income Per Individual Per Day, than change your Defcon level from 5 to 4 (this will decrease your happiness by 1). Compare your Avg. Gross Income Per Individual Per Day at Defcon 5 and at Defcon 4. The difference is how much income 1 happiness point is worth. Remember to change back to Defcon 5 before collecting otherwise you will be losing income. (ex. Gross income at Defcon 5 = 200, Gross income at Defcon 4 = 197.3 therefore, 200 - 197.3 = 2.7 income per 1 MODIFIED happiness point). Taxes: Always make sure to have your taxation at 28%. Lowering taxes might increase the happiness of your population but by lowering taxes you will not be getting any benefit out of it. So ALWAYS keep your taxes at 28%. There are two ways to increase happiness: 1 - Through trades. Your first two priorities for trades should be Population boosters and Infra cost reducers. Happiness is the 3rd. Some trade sets can increase happiness as much as +15 but they might do it at the expense of the first 2 priorities so make sure you find the right balance. 2 - Improvements. Stadiums are the best way for new nations to increase their happiness. Police Headquarters, Churches and Intelligence Agencies also increase happiness but they should come much later in the improvement purchase order (check the Improvement thread to find out the best order). So remember 1 happiness is > 1 income as long as you are not losing Gross Income by increasing your happiness. |
