Government Bonuses

You probably know that you get a +1 happiness bonus for choosing the type of government that your nation prefers. The Nation page gives you semi-cryptic clues about the preference of your citizens for you to work this out.

It's generally agreed upon that Monarchy is the best government to have since it gives you the best stats regardless of what your people want.

If desired by your population, Capitalist and Republic are also very good followed by Revolutionary since it gives you the same stats as Monarchy but without the environment bonus.

If your population desires it and if (and only if) you are not planning on buying any infrastructure or land, but wish to simply concentrate on collecting, Democracy (only if desired by your pop) is also a good choice since (when wanted) if gives you a +2 happiness bonus.

All other forms of government should be avoided, even if your population desires them

Government Positions

Most of what you set your government position as does not affect the economy, however, there are 3 fields that do.

1. A foreign nation has asked you to sign a nuclear non-proliferation treaty whereby you will sign off on your option to research and develop nuclear technology including nuclear weapons. What is your government’s position?

If you do not have uranium, you must pick the first option, being against nuclear weaponry, or your economy will suffer.

If you have Uranium, set this to the second option (not sign treaty, but want power)

2. The nation closest to your northern borders has experienced a disastrous economic failure. Hordes of immigrants cross over onto your borders seeking new jobs and opportunities. This new wave of job seekers could bring a similar devastation to your own economy. What is your government’s position?

DO NOT, I repeat: DO NOT pick the first option (allowing them to come and go as they wish) Pick either the second or the third option, or your economy will suffer.

3. Drug traffickers are crossing into your borders from all sides bringing with them narcotics and an assortment of recreational drugs. Many of your citizens are becoming addicted and have been unable to hold steady jobs which is both endangering your citizen’s lives and hurting your economy. What is your government’s position?

DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT pick the first option (your leaders being hooked on drugs) Your economy will suffer if the government is on drugs...pick the second or third option.

Bills This is how much you pay for upkeep of everything you own.

Tax Your tax rate shows how much of your people's money you tax. Move it around to see what level of taxing gives you the most money. Use that tax level, and not another one.

One of your aims is to maximize your taxes. Your second is to minimize your bills. Your third is to buy stuff for as low a price as possible. Achieve all these, and you've found the recipe to success.
