Because: A meeting in Bali proved Rhett’s intelligence far from par, and Rhett couldn’t help but feel embarrassed and humiliated about the circles others ran around him.
Oh, and he’s connected to the 2002 Bali bombings, but he didn’t do anything. He swears!

Personality traits:
Unlike a lot of people at this school there isn’t much when it comes down to Rhett. He’s not a complicated person. He doesn’t ask for much and he doesn’t plan on taking over the world one day. His emotions are plain and he’s movements are easily predicted. Those that know him well come to enjoy his humbleness and his straight forward nature. They understand that he isn’t one to ask for much, but what he asks for are things that he really needs. For even the simplest person needs their oxygen, their food, and their shelter. It’s just that what most people think of “shelter” and “home” are completely opposite and almost hell-like for Rhett. He was raised on the ocean and lives and breaths the turquoise water. Here on land it’s a living hell for him. All these people and the constant stability of the land and polluted air make him a lot more agitated than he would be at home. Here you find that he’ll snap a little bit easier than he would before (though it still takes him a lot to do so) but for someone to see him on the ocean compared to here they’ll find a major difference.

In general Rhett is a very laid back person. The main adjective most use to describe him is passive. There are very few things that can cause him to create a scene and when he does most people brush it off. In his agitated states he often sounds more sincere because his skills in that department are rusty. In a way he has a huge problem communicating his actual emotions, and lacks a full range of personality. Most people find him to be a two dimensional character compared to some of the students at Jednorezec. In reality it’s just because he doesn’t care enough. All his life he’s had the ease and gentle rocking of the sea, not all this hustle and bustle of the city. If something is more work than what it’s worth then why bother?

There are two hugs passions in Rhett’s life that make him come alive, and become a real person. And as you probably already guessed those two things are sailing and surfing. While he does more of the earlier than the later he loves them both.

And he’s good at them.

He’s been featured in more than a few sailing magazines for winning hard fought competitions. It is all the work that goes into it that makes it so attractive to him. When you sail you don’t think about anything else BUT sailing. You have to constantly think about the currents, the head winds, which ways the sails are directed, the rudder, and what the crew or you should be doing. In reality Rhett is a very competitive person when it comes down to those two sports because those are the only two things he really knows. However to see him to do the either is a brilliant sight. There a certain glint in his eyes, and excitement in his voice that becomes infectious to those around him. His joy brims over and flows gently into those around him.

Apart from what he knows from the ocean Rhett isn’t the smartest person around. In fact ever since he got to Jednorezec he’s really been failing most of his courses, or passing with some mediocre grade that isn’t even worth looking at. Here he depends a lot on people to help him with his classes because he simply doesn’t have the drive and isn’t brilliant enough. The friends that he’s made here are people that he keeps extremely close to. Being social and outgoing isn’t his kind of play and he’d much rather chill in his dorm with a few of his good friends than go to some huge party and get wasted. He respects people to the highest extent and isn’t really one to form opinions until he’s gotten to know a person. However that isn’t to say that there aren’t people he doesn’t like. He finds that people who often full of themselves to be the most annoying. He thinks that money corrupts people a lot more than it helps them.

He’s loyal and close to his friends and is a person that is always willing to lend a helping hand or an ear. While his advice isn’t always the best he finds that most people feel better just talking about the problem than keeping it bottled inside. When it comes down to women he’s only really ever had one serious relationship before and that broke off because it just became too much with all the traveling that he was doing. He thinks very old fashioned when it comes down to girls and finds that they deserve utter respect. Plus the fact that he’s been whooped hard by more than a few female surfers humbles him.

Brief history: When Fermina Daza, the Brazilian daughter of a shipbuilding family arrived in Bali Indonesia for a short trip with a few of her girlfriends she never expected to fall in love. She was not more than eighteen when she met the twenty two year old Imade Weda. While he didn’t speak English well and definitely didn’t speak any Portuguese they felt the connection through the language barriers. It was one brief glance at each other and they knew that something was there. It didn’t take long through a struggled and stumbled conversation for them to find themselves engrossed with each other. They wanted to know everything, how the other grew up, what their family was like, what they liked and more. He taught her how to surf and she taught him how to salsa (though they both were particular horrible at doing the said hobbies at the time) and when she arrived back in Sao Paul she had an extra passenger along with her.

It didn’t take long for them to get married and while they both young they knew it felt right. Instead of the usual house down payment as a wedding gift, Fermina’s parents they gave the young couple a 150 square foot sailboat yacht. It was an extremely generous gift and since both Fermina and Imade loved the ocean is was a gift well received. Back home, Imade had been co-operating a surf shop since the waves in Bali were finally being discovered and Aussie land was no longer the king of all waves. However, he soon decided to leave in exchange of traveling the world with his young wife and new family. From then on Fermina and Imade called the Eastern Trade Winds their home rather than any land based object.

When Rhett was conceived the couple was grounded for a good two years. The first four months Fermina had been fine but when the middle of her second trimaster hit she couldn’t stay on the boat very long without feeling really sick and uncomfortable. Plus with the added on suggestion of the doctor they ended up in Bali for a while. It was there did Imade go back to his old co-owned shop and thrust his name back into the business. During those two years they had a steady income in, sometimes booming sometimes not. When Rhett was born he was basically born into the sea. The ocean essentially became a part of his life and ever since he could walk his parents put him on a boat. The sea-sickness most people are used to is some kind of myth to Rhett’s ears.

After he became old enough the new family set out on to the ocean again, their main income from trading and shipping things from different exotic places. They mostly stayed within the coral sea, sailing back and forth between the Philippines, Thailand, the Indo and the Eastern world. For a few months out of the year they always sailed back to Sao Paul to visit Fermina’s family and trade there, and occasionally they would end up in the Mediterranean or the Caribbean. However, it wasn’t until Florentino was born did they stop again. This time they stayed in Phuket but their stay there was a lot shorter than the Bali stop. Florentino managed to get his sea legs a lot sooner than Rhett had. Plus, there were few business opportunities Fermina and Imade could do there besides take privileged families on a few day trips.

It wasn’t until Rhett was nine did he really get a taste of land. When his sister America was born Imade and Fermina had decided to try and formally settle down in San Juan, Puerto Rico. It was there that Rhett was given his first little dingy sailboat and did he really fall in love with sailing. While he floundered about and pretty much got raped his first time out (since his father had decided not to teach him ANYTHING) he soon excelled in the sport and was put into races at the age of 10. While he didn’t win all the time, he always managed to place and make his parents proud. However after three years was up, the Puerto Rican scene was getting old. The Urbino-Daza’s were not land people but sea people. They were used to seeing only the horizon and the most beautiful skies without a landmass in sight. So they packed up and once again made their ship their home. It took America the longest to gain her sea legs since she was so used to land. It during that year did Fermina’s brother, who was also a teacher boarded their boat and became a part of their crew.

Most of Rhett’s formal education came from that man.

However when Rhett turned 18 his parents after much arguing and debating they decided that their son needed a bachelor’s degree in this day and age. They worried for his financial health, and while they owned a few businesses here and there they wanted their son to be able to one day work on land if he needed. to So it was with the suggestion of Fermina’s sister who lives in London to send Rhett to Jednorezec Academy.

And so now here he is. Hating every moment.

Trivia:
Pretty famous for sailing, been in a couple magazines
Doesn’t really speak ONE fluent language. Instead he speaks a combination of Balinese, Portuguese, Spanish, and English
Broods excessively because he hates being so landlocked
Has never had a steady girlfriend, because being on the water all the time doesn’t let him do that
He’s afraid of people and what they can do
Doesn’t really understand why he’s here but sucks it up.

(i want the cool way everyone else set up their profiles...)
