"You needed to see me?" Danzai asked as he entered the guildmaster's room.
"Yes, please take a seat." Danzai sat down across from the guildmaster. "I hear, you're quite powerful, I was pleased that the one to accompany Yuen was Judi as I wanted your aid."
"You want me to help you? I thought I was a hostage."
"Nonsense, Yuen and Judi are not in any real danger either. The kidnapping and the mission were real however the mercenaries they have hired as bodyguards are highly trusted members of the guild, if Yuen and Judi manage to beat them then I may just have to step down."
"So what's going on then?"
"I am, preparing something and I wish to test Yuen's immense potential. However there is another reason why he was sent on this mission specifically and that is the captive."
"He said something about trouble with his family. What exactly is going on?"
"Emerie, the eight year old heir to the Seireiten head family was kidnapped by a close branch family. Emerie is very fond of Yuen and I want her cooperation in the future."
"You sure think ahead, don't you?"
"The Seireiten are immensly powerful all over the world. If I have the cooperation of their leader then perhaps my goals will come to fruition."
"What goals."
"Long term, I want to get back to my original world. But for now I'm working on saving this one."
"Save this world? What are you talking about."
"There is evil brewing throughout this world, a dark being is beginning to take hold in many places, monsters are becoming more widespread and the darkness in human hearts has begun to increase. We must do all we can to impede and eventally destroy this darkness."
"Monster have become more widespread and darkness is enveloping the world? Is it anything like that goblin nest we found in the forest?"
"Yes and no. I prepared that breeding ground so we could have a steady supply of goblins with which to test potential guild members, However it got out of hand without my knowledge, truth be told Yuen made the proper decision. The monsters I am talking about will be far far stronger than those goblins and in greater numbers, that is why we need to bring together the strongest warriors we can and we must awaken those with potential."
"How do you know all of this?"
"I know, much. It's all about finding the proper artifacts and prophecies. One thing the guild makes clear before a mission is that if we are to locate and retrieve any items, we have the right to refuse reward and keep the items, because of this much prophecy has come together before me, as the guildmaster."
"I see, so guildmast-"
"Call me Eriou."
"Eriou, what do you need from me?"
"I wish for you to join me on this." Eriou placed a sheet of paper on the desk, it was a quest sheet for an S rank mission. "The S rank missions are extremely dangerous missions issued by me. They warrant directly to teh approaching darkness. No one, not even me, is permitted to attempt an S rank mission alone and only those decided by me to be the most trustworthy and powerful members of the guild know about the darkness and are permitted to accept these missions."
"I think you're overestimating me."
"Well perhaps we'll see. Now tell me, do you accept, will you aid me?"

Eriou looked at Danzai with questioning eyes. Danzai looked down at his hammer, deep in thought. He looked up. "I still say you see too much in me. Judi is the one with the potential, not I. However, I cannot turn this down."
Eriou gave a small smile. "Excellent. You've made the right choice here. Believe me when I say I am grateful for your cooperation."
Danzai remained quiet for a short while. When he spoke, it was with a voice filled with a small relief. "You did something very good for me when you said Yuen was in the right, not to mention telling me that the two would likely remain safe. With those worries out of my head I'll be able to show you my best."
"That's good, as you'll need it." Eriou pushed the sheet of paper forward. "Read that, and you'll understand what all this is about."

Judi fidgeted with her cloak, ill at ease. This didn't escape Yuen's notice, but he ignored it for now. Finally Judi spoke up.
"Are you sure we can do this? I mean you're short two guardians, and I'm not exactly the best at infiltration you know. And what was the guildmaster thinking by breaking our group up? And right before sending two rookies on an A rank mission? This is insane!"
Yuen rolled his eyes. "You're underestimating me. Well, yourself too, but mostly me."
Judi threw her hands up. "Fine then! I don't know why I even bothered!"
Yuen stopped. Judi stopped a moment later, when she noticed he wasn't flowing. Yuen looked her straight in the eye.
"Are you that worried about not having Danzai around?"
Judi puffed out her cheeks. "Of course not!" But then she sighed loudly. "Well, maybe. He's practically an older brother to me to be honest. I've known him for a long time, and we've been working together as long as I've been a magus. It's just weird not having him around you know."
Yuen smirked. "We now you have me around, so everything is gonna be just fine."
Judi tuened and started walking away. "...Lets just get this over with."

You really are underestimating me." Yuen said confidently. I didn't use a single card while you were conscious before, but if it's for Emerie then I'd use my entire deck in a heartbeat. Besides, you shouldn't worry to much. you havn't seen Miko's area control abilities yet either."
"Is Miko really that strong?"
"Nah, not in single combat, Alice is much stronger and Witch is unbelievably versatile. But Miko can summon her own guardians to fight for her and she can heal wounds when neccesary. If we're really in trouble then I've got cards equal to magic that outshines your level 3 runic spell. High rank shamanic magic cards, no matter what happend, they'll get us out of trouble.
"Why do you care so much about this girl."
"She deserves someone who cares about her. She's been locked away in her mansion ever since she was born. Her older siblings were killed, before she was born and so the elders got, cautious. To cautious. The only times she was ever allowed out was when she had to visit the branch family mansions as I sign of good faith, she had an enormous escort when she did. I remember the first time she visited my branch. I was fourteen at the time, she was five. She was unbelievably polite and respectful, it almost made me sick thinking about how young she was in contrast to her attitude. I had Witch send her guards to sleep and introduced her to Alice and Witch, whom my family had yet to meet. Afterwards I convinced her to come and play with me. We ran around like idiots, she was really happy about it. Her smile was, so innocent. She didn't know about the outside world, she just knew the family and what little they taught her. I ended up making a promise to her that day, without thinking. I promised that when she grew up I would make her my bride. We're so far removed that we're barely related, it's not immoral by our countries standards... but. I saw her a few times after that, she always wanted to play when we did, it was the only time she got act, like a kid. My family was watching me after that, they were wary of me and my rulebreaking and I think they were scared of my power, I was getting dosowned even if I hadn't broken the guardian rules. Now Emerie's been kidnapped, and there's something I can do about it. I promise this, though, Once we've got her, she's not going back to the Seireiten."
"But, if we don't return her, then we can't complete the mission and you lose your bet."
"If he wants to pull that card then I'll just take him out and place myself as guildmaster, you can be my right hand woman, if you want."
"You're insane."
"All the worlds great visionaries were told that. We're here, this is the town."
"How do you know this is the place?"
"I know all the branches, this is the only one radical enough to do something like this. It's pretty close to the main branch so they'll be strong, but I'm stronger." Yuen summoned Miko before they took another step.
"Are you sure about this?" Judi asked fiddling with the page of her book. "The quest sheet said they hired professional mercenaries as bodyguards."
"Feel free to head back to guild and wait for me, let's go Miko." Yuen adjusted his card holder so it was on his right wrist, to allow him to quickly grab the cards he needed and headed forward to the large mansion at the edge of town. Judi mustered what courage she had left and ran after him.

"Alright, front door is guarded, obviously enough. Looks like they're watching over all the other entrances as well." Yuen surveyed the mansion and was quick to surmise the situation. "And of course they've enchanted the area, a direct assault would fail unless we can get in the building at least."
Judi flipped through her tome and had a flash of inspiration.
"I'm not suited for steath at all, and you don't seem like you'd be best at it either. But if they we're distracted we could slip in and start up in earnest."
Yuen looked askance at her. "You're not going to set the place on fire are you?"
A smile crept across Judi's face. "In a manner of speaking. I'm going to make them think I set the mansion aflame. You ready to go?"
Yuen nodded. "Of course."
"Alright then, lets do this." Judi began speaking her spell. "Khalm zwei omn thos cierl khag, rhast omnit jei nimn, ~Weirst Khar~"
Panic broke out, as the illusory flames spread at maximal speed. People started running everywhere, trying to douse the flames with ice and water magic, to no avail. In the confusion, it was easy for Judi and Yuen to slip in. They ran down the now empty hallway. Judi had to push herself to match Yuen's speed. "So where do you think they're keeping her?"
Yuen didn't bother looking back. "Top floor. Lets go."

Yuen and Judi followed closely, led by several warrior-form Shikigami that Miko had created. Miko walked at the back of the group, her bow ready to fire at anything. The shikigami bust through a door on the fourth floor.
"How many floors does this place have?" Judi asked.
"Seven, we gotta keep moving."
"If you can." Yuen spun around, a man with a big grin was sitting in a chair near the door, arms crossed. "nice touch using those illusions, these Seireiten may be strong but they have no clairvoyancy training."
"Not this branch at least. This place is all about power."
"I can tell, not that it really matters, they pay me, I fight."
"You're one of the mercenaries they hired then?"
"Yeah, that's me. Name's Dien, I hope you can put up a fight."
"Judi, keep going. Take Miko with you and get Emerie out of here, I'll meet up with you later."
"Are you insane? We're rookies and he's a professional soldier, you can't win alone."
"Go. Get her out." Miko grabbed Judi's shoulder and dragged her down the hall. Miko turned and threw three shikigami warriors to Yuen's side. Afterwards she threw another Shikigami which turned into a large barrier, blocking the doorway to prevent Dien's pursuit.
"My partner's up ahead, I hope you're friends can handle themselves."
"Judi's strong and even if you're partner is stronger then I just have to get to her side before it goes to far." Yuen drew three cards from his holder and held them in front of his chest, with the backs facing Dien.
"You're brave kid. If you're half as strong then I'm looking forward to a good fight." Dien reached over and ripped the skin of his left arm. Underneath the fake skin, his arm was a strange color, some spots on his arm were pitch black while others were a blinding white. He stood to the side and aimed his arm at Yuen. "It's been a long time since a fight has gotten me excited, so excite me."

Miko set Judi down, and she ran on without further protest. It would be meaningless at this point. Finding the stairs, the two bolted up to the fifth floor, and found themselves blocked by a man in a ragged, burned vest. He spun his double ended spear around, the points on fire. He grinned like a madman.
"Hah, to think Dien would let people through? Pft. Not to mention those card using morons letting themselves be fooled by such a cheap trick." Judi and Miko looked at eachother and nodded. Miko sent an arrow flying at the man, acompanied by a fireball flung from Judi's bracelet. The man laughed and batted both attacks aside with his spear. "You think you'll do anything with that? This is gonna be dull. Well burn this name into your memories. I'm Tenka and I'm the best."
Tenka charged in, laughing all the while. Judi pulled out her tome an made a wall of flames to stop him, but he just charged right through. "That fire of yours aint even lukewarm!" His charge however, was stopped by Miko's guardian Shikigami. The Shikigami swarmed the man, and he could barely fend them off, and was forced back. Judi quickly recited her spell, and sent a large fireball flying at Tenka. The man was engulfed in the flames. Judi panted. "Did that do it?"
Laughter. Strange and terrible. Tenka stood up, still on fire. His spear was split in two, and he casually strapped a half onto each arm. His voice came out gravelly. "It's been a while since I could let loose. Don't disappoint me!" He struck the tips together, and the flames around him burned brighter and hotter, making him seem like a devil made entirely out of flames. He roared, crouching down. The fires at his feet gathered and exploded, sending him barreling straight towards the two casters. They leapt apart, barely dodging the charge. He swiftly turned, the flames granting him insane mobility. Miko sent a wave of Shikigami at the burning monstrosity, who simply let out a straight punch. Flames followed the path of his fist, and scorched through the Shikigami like they were leaves. Judi desperately searched her tome for a solution. "I can't do anything to this guy! What are we supposed to do here?!?"

The three shikigami charged Dien, swords drawn, at an inhuman speed. Dien moved his foot slightly. Sudenly, he had covered half the distance between Yuen and himself and the shikigami were torn to shreds. he held up his left arm again, Yuenh could clearly see that his fingers had been replaced by demonic claws. Yuen twitched his fingers and one of his three cards fell to the ground, As it hit the ground a beam shot out from it at a speed that even Dien couldn't avoid. It hit his legs and then bounced back into Yuen's legs.
"The hell did you just do, kid?"
"It's a spell that copies an opponents body parts, I was planning on taking your arm but even if I had your power it would be pointless if I couldn't keep up with you. I'll just have to use this instead." Yuen threw a second card to his side. It glowed and came flying back into his right arm. After a short flash Yuen's right wrist had three bracelets, that were far to big for him, floating around it. His right arm had several metallic bracers on it and he had a thick shoulder guard over his right shoulder. Yuen slipped his remaining card into his belt. He aimed his right arm at Dien. "Let's see what you got." Yuen charged forward bring his fist down hard, cracking the floor. A huge hole opens up and the rubble falls down to the third floor.
Dien whistled. "Tough, and you've got my speed. This may turn out to be rather exciting after all." Dien charged forward trying to grab yuen around the neck with his left arm. Yuen jumped back avoiding it. His braclets glowed and a sharp knife blade came out of one of them. He attempted to slash at Dien's throat. Dien back-stepped the attack and punched Yuen in the stomach. Yuen went flying backwards, hitting the wall. He stood up and dissapeared. He reappered just as he stabbed Dien in the stomach. Dien jumpd back injured.
"So this is what fighting me is like? How exciting, I'm rather jealous of everyone else. Yuen spun and threw the blade from his arm at Dien, who side-stepped the attack, causing the blade to be embedded in the wall. "I wish I could show you my true strength kid, but this place is just to closed in. Even so, we're just getting started. Right?"

Despite the fire spreading everywhere, the room itself wasn't catching alight. Judi focused her magical perception, and noticed the entire room was protected from flames. Meaning trying to blast a hole in the walls or floor was right out... But it did open up a rather interesting option. As well, there was something about the way Tenka controlled his fire that might work advantageously... Tenka was focusing his attacks on Miko, as Judi wasn't a threat in his eyes. No fire could hurt him, bar a spell higher level that Judi could cast. But there was some options... Judi shot a meaningful glance at Miko, who understood its meaning. Stall for me. She answered with a look of her own, its meaning equally clear. I won't last long. Judi flipped through her tome, and created a veritable maze of flames throughout the room. It wouldn't slow Tenka down in the slightest, but it wasn't exactly easy to find anyone in it. Having done all she could to buy the maiden time, Judi started reciting her desperate gamble.
"Natsun vantas zwei khag thaist ein, thous hast excas desrit."
Tenka performed a blazing uppercut towards the fleeing Miko, who could only just get out of the way in time. However, he swiftly changed direction with his flames, and delivered a powerful kick to Miko's stomach. She went crashing into the floor, her clothes burning where she was kicked.
"Nimkha thous istat aock ein terzai,"
Judi hoped beyond hope that her theory about Tenka was correct. Tenka dashed towards Miko, a living meteor. But before the impact could land, the final words of Judi's spell rang out.
"~Khag Nimt~!"
The flames in the room wavered, and went out. The flames wrapped around Tenka's body were more reluctant to fizzle, but they expired in the face of the spell Judi had wrought. Miko took advantage of the confusion, and sent Tenka sprawling with one of her Shikigami. He crashed to the floor. He wasn't long in standing up, but the fight had gone out of him.
"I didn't think you could do something like that. I mean really, directly affecting fire made from someone else's mana while they're controlling it? Wow."
Judi did her best to stay on her feet. "Well not only am I a fire expert... But Runic is known for it's raw power. I didn't think it'd work either, but... You really didn't have that strong a grip on it. You were just pumping it out from everywhere at once for the most part, it wasn't as hard to override your mana as it could have been."
Tenka looked at the two, judging them. His eyes suddenly seemed almost... Soft. He turned around.
"Hey, I'll call it quits here. You two can call this a win if you'd like." And with that, he walked away. As soon as he left, Judi sank too her knees, and Miko wavered as she desperately tried to avoid returning to her card. Judi panted. "Man, we were not suited to fighting him. Thank the spirits he decided to leave like that... I think I'm gonna... Take a short... Nap..." Judi fell asleep.

The golem was smashed apart with shocking brutality. The crash of the hammer caused chains to leap up elsewhere, snagging another of the stone beasts. It toppled into a maelstrom of blades, being shredded. One of the blades slashed the air, blocking a stone that had been hurled at the hammerman's back. He turned, and chained down the golem that had thrown the stone, binding it in place. He strode over, and destroyed it. He wiped the sweat from his brow.
"You sure it's in here Eriou?"
Eriou collected his blades, sheathing them. "Yeah. Should be right ahead."
Danzai took a second to catch his breath, then stepped over the huge piles of rubble, and walked alongside the guildmasted in the winding halls of the ruins. A few more of the stone creatures attacked them, but not in numbers even close to those that had just been destroyed. They eventually came to a dead end. Eriou closed his eyes. "It's here all right. Not much too look at, but it's definitely what we're looking for."
Danzai looked as close as he could, but he couldn't notice anything. However, he fully trusted the swordmaster's word at this point. Eriou reached into his pocket and drew out a black sphere. He tossed it into the middle of the room. The world wavered, and the sphere vanished. Eriou drew out his blades. "You know what to do here."
Danzai nodded, and brought his hammer to the ground, brining up his bench. Nothing happened for a minute. Then two. Then without warning, space went haywire where the sphere had been. A dark shape started to pulse, and drag itself out of the twisted space. Danzai brought his hammer down, and innumerable chains and bars constrained the unworldly thing. Eriou's swords flashed out, striking the shape in a few key areas. The shape struggled against the chain, and Danzai put forth all his effort in maintaining them. The groan of tortured metal could be heard, they wouldn't last long. Eriou finished his preparations and the ten katanas in the air stuck the shape at once. It let out a sound that was unlike anything from this existence, and retreated into the distortion. Danzai released the chains, and Eriou tossed a white sphere into the middle of it. It flashed, and everything returned to normal. The chains, bars and bench Danzai had brought up vanished, and Danzai flopped to the ground. Eriou sheathed his blades once more. "That's one of them down."

Yuen activated the second bracelet around his wrist. It glowed and his fist burst into lightning. Dien held his left arm in front of him and prepared to charge. The two charged towards each other, clashing their fists, throwing energy all around them. Dien spun and punched Yuen's face using his right arm. Yuen fell backwards, but didn't go flying like he did before. Yuen threw his right arm forward, blasting the lightning off his arm and striking Dien. The second bracelet shattered from his wrist. Yuen's third bracelet shone.
"What's next kid?" Yuen swung his arm forward and gripped the air. Dien felt something tighten around his neck. Yuen raised his arm higher in front of him and Dien was lifted off the ground. With his feet off the ground Dien's speed all but disabled. Yuen tighgtened his grip as the power from his final bracelet was pushed to it's limit. Dien glowed.
"The hell are you doing?"
"Just watch." The light blinded Yuen and the third bracelet shattered. Yuen let his eyes adjust and looked down. The floor had enormous claw marks in it. Dien's body had changed. His left arm was now pure black and had a strange green fire burning on it. His right arm was no longer human, it had become pure white with a blue fire burning on it. "You pushed me to my power, impressive. That's what I would say if I didn't try to pull this form out whenever possible, it's a lot more fun." The bracers and shoulder card shattered and disappeared as Yuen quickly drew a new card form his holder, throwing it forward. It burned and in it's place a giant lance of sharp ice appeared, attempting to impale Dien. Dien held his right arm in front of him and a shield of light appeared, blocking and completely nullifying the ice spear.
"Sorry kid, but now you face my absolute defense. My angelic right arm which can defend me from anything. My demonic left arm which can destroy anything that gets in my way. With these I'm unbeatable, I hope you're ready to die!"
"I'm not losing here! I have to save Emerie. I'll defeat you quickly, if you're partner's as strong as you then Judi and Miko may be in trouble."
"They aren't in danger kid, let me tell you a secret. The guildmaster sent a few high level members to pose as mercenaries so they could test you, the guy up ahead is one of them. They won't kill you no matter how badly you lose. I, however, will gladly tear you limb from limb just like I did to that guy from the guild who was supposed to be guarding this floor." Yuen stepped back, drawing three new cards from his holder. "You're kidding, kid. You saw my absolute defense and you're actually gonna try that. Yuen snapped his fingers. Dien heard a sound behind him. He turned to see the card that was in Yuen's belt on the ground behind him. It burst and blasted Dien backwards, towards Yuen. Yuen threw one of his three cards. It burned and burst into a bolt of lightning that hit Dien in the back. Yuen placed a card on the ground and charged forward. His third card burned in his hand as he slipped past Dien. He hit Dien and a blast of energy burst from his hand, throwing Dien backwards. Yuen smashed his hand into the ground and the card on the ground burst into a torrent of water which flung Dien into the roof. He drew one more card and threw it towards Dien. The card burned and became a sharp metal spike. The spike impaled Dien threw the back, going right through the roof. The spike cracked and disappeared. Dien fell to the floor, hard. Yuen panted, heavily. Yuen's eyes widened as Dien stood up, almost unfazed. The hole in hsi stomach closed up and he looked into Yuen's eyes.
"Exciting... You're good. A shame that your death, is in my contract." Dien raised his left arm, which burned with the green fire. The fire spread to his claws.
"Who are you?!" Dien turned towards the back door. The shikigami barrier that Miko had created had worn out and Tenka stoood in the doorway. "Kiol was supposed to be here, who are you?"
"Kiol? Oh that man that I killed. He was weak, to weak, it wasn't an exciting fight." Tenka looked angry as flames erupted around him. He looked at Yuen.
"Go meet up with your friends and complete your mission, leave him to me." Yuen drew a new card. It burned and Tenka's flames were reinforced. He was up and running out the doorway within seconds.
"Thank you. Be careful." He said as he started running down the hall." Tenka looked back at Dien.
"I hope you can, excite me."

"Y-Yuen!" Emerie hugged him tight and burst into tears. Judi gave a small, tired smile. "We did it... Thank the spirits..."
Loud noises came from below, a pitched battle seemed to be happening. Judi took something out from her robes and unfolded it. "We have to get out of here, right now. I made sure to bring this just in case..." Judi took the scroll, and rolled it down one of the walls. It looked like nothing more than a blank piece of paper. Judi checked it was set up correctly, and found that it was. "Hurry you two, you can catch up with eachother later!" Judi walked into the scoll, and vanished with a ripple. Yuen scooped Emerie up in his arms, and ran in after Judi. Seconds later, the scroll fell to tattered pieces, before vanishing altogether.

Tenka faced down the mysterious murderer. Before anything could start between the two, the Seireiten guards finally reached the room. Noticing the mercinary they had hired facing down an unknown warrior, they drew out their guardians and readied their cards. Dien found himself completely surrounded. "You fools aren't even worth my time." Wings appeared behind Dien, and the Seireiten lept into battle. Against eachother. Tenka looked around in bewilderment. "What did you just do?"
Dien laughed at him. "Forget about those fools. I will only battle against the worthy. Let the weak fight against the weak. It is time for the strong to fight. Don't disappoint me."
"Ignition" Tenka immediately burst into his berserker state, and put much more power behind it. The battle that ensued was at extreme speeds. Dien was faster perhaps, but Tenka was more maneuverable. Dien's attacks did not connect, but had terrible force behind him. Tenka's landed, but despite the raging inferno he wielded, Tenka could not harm the regenerating monster. Tenka suddenly wasn't on fire, as all of his flames concentrated on the point of one of the halves of his spear. "If I know one thing about regenerators, it's that they don't regenerate after being reduced to ash. Lets finish this!"
Tenka's attack came without the usual speed, as he only had a little power to spare. But the power was incomparable to his earlier attacks. Dien raised his right arm. Tenka's spear stabbed into the palm of Dien's hand with all of Tenka's fire behind it... And was stopped. Tenka reeled back in shock.
Dien shook his head and sighed. "I was having such fun too. And you waste your power with that? However, I recognize your power. Live, and grow stronger."
Tenka glowered at the man. "You must be joking. I refuse to-"
He was cut off as he was swept from his feet. He was removed from the carnage of the building, leaving only a trail of ice behind that swiftly melted away into nothingness. Dien didn't care.
