Magus: One who uses magic through use of Runic

Runic: A language created so that it's spoken and written forms are spell matrices, and as such speaking it creates a spell form, and written runic is a spellform by default. After construction of the spell form one needs only to activate it with their mana. Longer, more powerful spells are harder to construct and maintain. Written runic is faster and easier to use than spoken runic, but is usually not as powerful as a result. A high level magus can cast a spell simply by speaking the final activation key and constructing the entire spell form from that, and a master can cast silently by constructing the spell form in his mind. These methods are extremely difficult, and often produce inferior results.

Artifact weapon: A weapon that has its own ability that can be drawn out by its wielder. The greater a person's affinity for the power of the weapon, the greater their ability to use it. It is typically impossible to use artifact weapons stronger than oneself.

Guardian: A spirit created by a member of the Seireiten family using the physical likeness of a real person as well as parts of the creators memories or imagination. The abilities a guardian can use are based upon the imagination of the creator, despite this no creator has ever succesfully made an invincible guardian. Guardians all have their own personalities and can attack their creators minds when outside of battle to let him/her know that they want out of their cards. There are many rules to creating guardians, the first being that no matter your limit no one should create more than two guardians, the second being that you must only make guardians that are the same gender as yourself as falling in love with a guardian is deadly.

Sorcerer: One who uses sorcery. All sorcerers have the same amount of mana, and are born with their power sealed within themselves, and have to dissolve the seals to access their power. Each seal dissolved increases the level of the sorcerer.

Sorcery: Sorcery is magic created from inside the casters soul. Each sorcerer has their own spells created by themselves, and cannot learn the spells of another. To create sorcery spells, a sorcerer must enter a trance state and create them in their own mind. In order to be capable of remembering these spells outside of the trance, the spells must be linked to a keyword. Saying this keyword casts the spell, so it is important to choose the keyword wisely. Each spell is created at a certain level, with each level increasing the effects, but becoming harder to make efficient. As all sorcerers have the same amount of mana, the amount of spells a sorcerer can cast is dependent on how efficient they can make their spells to cast. Some sorcerers are born without the ability to trance. In exchange, these sorcerers can create spells while awake, and cast without keywords. However, it is much harder for these sorcerers to make their spells efficient, as they must test them in the real world, which means expending the mana to cast them.

Not really a definition, but exposition works as well I guess.

Surnames: A last name is typically only held by those in a large or influential family, and most people have only a first name. Last names arenèt seen as a sign of power or anything, so people donèt usually bother having a last name for the sake of having a last name.

The Academy: This school of magic teaches much about the history, theory, and applications of magic. They also teach most of the common magic styles, though they cannot teach everything seeing as there are far too many unique abilities for such to be possible.
