That's really weird :ermm: Maybe, as you say, she had an horrible experience working with Polanski? I'm really surprised by this.

Oscar season has started, will she not back this film? She has a good chance for a nomination.

She is way too professional to let any sideline drama affect her support of a film. I wonder how her mom is doing.

I don't think it's family-related since she seems to attend other events :wondering She is voluntarily avoiding the movie's big nights. Has she ever done that before? Maybe for "Catchfire" :lol

Ah catchfire/backtrack, the movie were everyone took their name off except for Jodie the trooper.

Yeah, I don't think she has ever done this before. I remember people were so concerned for her health when she pull out of one of the movies at the last moment. That was so uncharacteristic that Hollywood started to think the worse (I heard cancer, dying etc) because she never does anything to put a production in financial danger like that. If they thought "only death or cancer will make Jodie drop after signing" I can imagine that her not showing up for the big nights, shows that's not how she usually does things. Usual I think.

I guess we'll find out definitively soon enough when she does (or doesn't do) the talk show rounds.

There are 4 names attached to the movie, maybe they're splitting/sharing the events among the men and women? :wondering Like celluloidkid said, perhaps they're saving Jodie & Kate for the tv appearances...

A spanish interview.

"We are all something monstrous"
Jodie Foster, actress in 'God of Carnage'

1. What attracted you to God of Carnage '?

I found it fascinating to see how the characters tear each other. We are all something monstrous, and if you admit, maybe things will go better. My character, Penelope Longstreet, is a woman obsessed with political correctness, until she loses control and ends up uncovering its true face. Despite its satirical humor, Yasmina Reza's text of situations known to all. Hence arises, in my opinion, her comedy.

2. Do you think Penelope is added to the gallery of strong women who usually play?

I consider myself a strong woman, so is natural for me to choose strong characters. Weak women cost me a bit and I do not see why I should make an effort in choosing those roles. I've played dumb blondes and women who make mistakes, but most of them were main characters and a have great inner strength.

3. Did you worry that working with Polanski was perceived as a sign of support for the director?

I do not care about such things. Polanski has made many films in the last 30 years, so this supposed support group would include all actors and technicians who worked with him. I do not think it fits the reality. All I care is that director Roman Polanski is a first-order and a true master.

Well, usually, the stars are out promoting movies on talk shows a few days before the film premieres, so we probably won't see anything until next month...if we're lucky. If she doesn't do any or very many, then we at least can look forward to seeing her at the Golden Globes. I don't think there's any way in hell that the Carnage cast won't be nominated.

Most Oscar pundits seem to think that Carnage won't really play in terms of awards. I suppose it doesn't help that Sony Classics after making a big deal that they were going to campaign the whole cast for Lead, suddenly and recently changed its mind and decided that it's going to campaign everyone in Supporting instead. Perhaps Winslet and Foster will cancel each other out if they're both up for the same category. This year there seem to be a lot of good lead and supporting female roles, so both categories are very competitive. But the Globes seem to go out of their way to invite big stars,(via a nomination) so that's why I think Carnage will be nominated there.

It's very disappointing how Sony is treating this film. Its almost disappeared from many Oscar lists because of how little campaigning its had so far.

Had they gone with a strong campaign from the start, Jodie would have the greatest chance to get a nom and a win in comedy. :bored

Regardless of awards chances, I'm glad she's finally doing something substantial. The last major role she had was The Brave One! That's too damn long in between projects.

I saw the movie (I plan to see it at the cinema ) and I HATED her character, she's so self-righteous she's crazy. Loved John C. character.
They all were wonderful, It's great to see Foster in something like this.

Anthony Hopkins on Jodie Foster in 'Carnage'

SAG Preview 2011: Actors on Actors
By
Anthoy Hopkins

'Carnage'
"In the film 'Carnage,' under the brooding power of Roman Polanski's direction, we are drawn, step by step, into the hell of other people's lives. In Sartre's 'No Exit,' one of the characters says: 'Hell is other people.' The four people, in this story, come face to face with the hell of their own lives, slowly tearing one another, and themselves, to shreds.

Jodie Foster's performance reaches the heights. From the opening scene, her rigid, razor-like smile, the staring eyes, the twists and contortions of her upper body, her heroic attempts to convey politically correct, civilized behavior, betray, instead, the symptoms of volcanic rage and despair. At one point she says, in a quiet, introspective moment, 'Why is everything so exhausting?' As the film story unfolds, she is confronted by the power of her own darkness. She gradually, inexorably comes apart at the seams, releasing colossal fountains of pent-up hatred. All is left for her is the desolation of lost hopes and aspirations. Jodie Foster, through her career, has given such high-powered performances that she stands alone. There is no one to touch her."

Variety
jodie is getting love for her not so lovable character.
