I saw the movie and was pleasantly surprised!! It was so weird because at the end of the movie, my friends were talking about Mel's performance and facial expressions on such and such scene and I realized I had missed a lot of them, because I kept looking at the beaver the entire time!! I barely saw the guy (spoilers ahead) The break in the middle making the movie slide into the darker part of the story freaked me out. That's when it really evolved into a great movie. The two blood-freezing moments for me were, first when the beaver keeps Walter from calling his wife on the phone And then the part where Walter pretends to play nice after the fight, and go build the little casket And isn't it crazy how they somehow managed to make the puppet appear suddenly extremely mean looking, although he looks the same as before? That's entirely Mel's doing.I could have done without the cheesy music on the ending scene (why, Jodie, why??) I think the music hurt the scene a lot. This was my only regret. Also the son storyline with the girlfriend was a bit meh at times. School, writing her essays, blah blah. I'm never interested in young characters'/kids' storylines. I would have preferred more beaver/walter scenes, any scene with him really. I think Mel made and stole the entire movie. Jodie's part was decent, she got the job done, I think she didn't have much to play on, as it was a rather dull wife role IMO. I was expecting the same Mel/Jodie chemistry we witnessed on Maverick but didn't see it. The story didn't allow it. I can't wait for the DVD to watch it again to focus more on Mel, and to hear Jodie's commentary

andreas, i agree re:jodie's role in the movie. i think she should have cast somebody else for it because i think she cant play the vulnerable wife. she just cant. especially if she cant help but wrestle her husband down in bed during sex (lmao!) that was the real jodie popping out

LOL that's funny cos a lesbian friend of mine said she realized Jodie was gay when she saw the way she threw Mel on the bed in Maverick-- she said no straight woman does that. She did it again on The Beaver, I guess it always falls on Mel
