Welcome to Kc Urban Farmer. We hope you enjoy your visit. This board was created as a local alternative to CraigsList for the urban farmers among us. Many farmers have had problems with people flagging and deleting their listings for no apparent reason. We hope that KCUrbanFarmer will expand to meet the need of our urban growers and farmers.

Who are we and why did we create KCUrbanFarmer?

As a very small urban farmer, I know the hassles and difficulties of running a successful small business. Often times, we just barely make ends meet when selling our products. Unfortunately, there are often times that everything seems to be pitted against us as we are pushing forward.

The story behind this website comes from a bad encounter with Craigslist. I had several dozen eggs (my hens finally started to lay) and I needed to sell them. I put an ad up on Craigslist to sell hatching eggs. Within a few minutes, I was flagged. I tried again thinking it must have been a fluke. Again the same thing happened. Finally, I decided to try just listing eggs for sale, that post lasted a few hours as people e-mailed me I assume to figure out if it was me again then when they did, I got flagged again. I went to Craigslist for help and they were ANYTHING but helpful... When someone finally responded they were condescending.

Most small farmers can't afford to play games and since most folks tend to get their info from the web these days, I think it is important to protect our farmers from those type of silly games. I don't begrudge Craigslist in any way. They provide a great product for free but their "flag when you feel like it" policy will bankrupt farmers and small business owners REAL fast.

I learned years ago don't be a victim, provide solutions. So, this is my solution. Just like Craigslist, we will work to stay free to small business owners. You guys don't have enough money to pass on to me. For folks who will be using the sight for a lot of listings, you will be charged a small fee up front. This will help off set some of the costs for the website. Finally, if you are a larger business and plan to advertise your products on here, there is a slightly larger fee for you.

I figured, the more you use the site the more you can help offset the expense. Either way, there won't ever be a fee for customers. If you list less than 2 times a month, there will not be a fee for you either. If you plan to post weekly or more than 24 times a year, then you should join our farmer's plan which is currently only $20 per year. You can list up to 6 times per month or a total of 72 listings. This should cover most small business owners. If you are a larger company who plans to sell your products more regularly, then you should contact us for our business plans.

All listings should be agriculture related. We don't want our site to become so over loaded with crap that people can't actually find what they are looking for. No listing will stay on the site past 30 days from posting. You will have to repost every 30 days if you wish to continue selling your product.

If you think we need a different section or to change our set up to make the system better we appreciate your suggestions. Don't get too frustrated if we don't always take those suggestions or if it takes time for us to move but we are small cause we want to be free/cheap.

We want to keep the site local within a 200 mile radius. If folks aren't willing to drive to where you are, then you are too far away to post here. If you would like to add a site to your area, then ask, maybe we can set up something closer to you. I never hurts to consider stuff.

Thanks and we really hope this is a successful place for you to sell your agricultural products and stuff.
