Looks like I'll be kicking this off. *cracks knuckles* All right, let's do this. I've backed Irys since the beginning, so I'm not going to turn my back on him -- especially not now, since this is the... final war. *smirks* First off, I'm going to make it perfectly clear that I know absolutely squat about Ultraman, but, after watching a few videos of his fights and reading his entry on the Ultraman Wiki, I'm going to try and give Nexus as fair of an analysis as I can, even though knowing nothing about him will more than likely put me at a disadvantage. Up till now, Irys has fought only fellow kaiju, so this battle presents an opponent that's completely different: a human-like opponent. A human-like opponent that's little and quick. But, to be frank, powerful arsenal or not, I'm not sure if Nexus has ever faced an opponent quite like Irys. I'm not sure how well Irys's lasers would do against Nexus even though Irys isn't a kaiju from that series, since I read that Ultras are resistant to them, though Irys's are sonic in nature so who knows how that would affect Nexus. And I'm not sure how well Irys is capable of aerial melee, since in Gamera 3, he was distracted when he fought Gamera. But, I'm pretty certain that for this fight, aerial or not, Irys will be fully concentrating upon vanquishing his opponent, and he would be able to use his tentacles to deflect some of Nexus's attacks. If Nexus ends up skewered by one of Irys's arm blades, I'm pretty sure that's going to hurt like hell. This would give Irys an opportunity to absorb some of Nexus's lifeforce, which would allow him to copy one of Nexus's energy attacks, and Irys would incorporate Nexus's DNA into his own through hyper evolution. This is all I have for now, and I honestly wish I knew more about Nexus in order to give a better analysis, but, as I stated at the beginning of my post: I'm sticking by Irys till the end. Crazy? You bet I am. |

Surely, there's more stuff people can say about this? I mean it's just one fight this round...

Seriously! This has been bothering me. To be perfectly honest, I'm starting to feel like an idiot for being the only one who's posted a reason for why I think who I chose would win. u_u I'm going to be very annoyed if the tiebreaker ends up being caused by a phantom voter. Is it because both of these characters aren't a kaiju from the Godzilla franchise? |

More than likely. (By the way, I'm going to vote Nexus, I just need reasons.) I don't know what else to do. I thought the easiest thing ever would be to do a voting tournament where people don't necessarily have to debate, but it seems no one can be bothered to care about even this. It's disheartening, especially as a staff member. |

(Hey, I'm fine with second place. If you prefer Nexus/believe he can win, go for it!)I know what you mean, I'm gritting my teeth about the lack of participation, too. It just seems to me like there's more and more apathy in the world in general, where the majority of the populace has just stopped caring, y'know? Sure, I was upset when my other favorite, Battra, lost his match in the first round, but I didn't give up and quit since I still had Irys and Legion. I backed those two to the best of my knowledge about them, and it got Legion to the semifinals and Irys here to the championship -- and I'm terrible at stuff like this. I know it's been disheartening, but don't give up hope. I may just be one person, but I'll always have interest in your tournaments. Not only because I find them fun, but because they've been helping me get better at debating, and they've also been helping me become more confident in myself. I'm not exactly the bravest person around and I despise conflict, but sometimes, conflicts will happen, and I understand that I can't avoid it forever. So, yeah, I'm extremely grateful for this and the past FFK tournaments you've run, and I always will be. |

I'm the 'phantom voter' so to speak. The reason I haven't said anything before was I didn't have reasons to back me up, well now I do so here we go. He is fast so he could dodge Irys' tentacles in the air and on land most likely. Also he has both of his Junis modes which are not to be taken lightly. He also can create that energy field that gives him an edge in battle. Though I'm sure how well that will play in this battle. If for some reason he gets hit by one of Irys arm blade and has his dna absorbed, that could actually do more harm then good for Irys. If anything that will give Nexus a power boost as something like that happened in the show where he was hit by something that uses his energy. That ended up giving him a power boost and he was able to defeat his enemy. Well those are my reasons for choosing Nexus. Though I might have missed a few things so there might more added later. Kiryu: I meant every word, and wanted to try and help, from one friend to another. And even though I'm not a staff member, you've got me interested in what you have planned. I've got some fresh blood for the next FFKT, so I'm ready. Bring it on!Redgriff: There's nothing wrong with posting that you'll come up with reasons for your choice later on. I did that in the second round (but I was feeling too blech that week to actually come back with my reasons..). Like I said in my original post: I know absolutely positively nothing about Nexus or even about Ultraman as a whole, so I can't really come up with an effective counter. Though, there is one more thing in Irys's arsenal I'd never been able to speak of since all his opponents before now were kaiju. What if, and this is a giant, GIANT what if, Nexus took damage to where he was forced to power down to reveal his human host? Now, I'm certain this probably won't really do much since the transformation for Nexus looked pretty damn fast from all the videos I saw on YouTube, but what if, before the human host was able to re-transform back into Nexus, Irys managed to pull him into his chest cavity? From what happened to Ayana, she appeared to be fully immobilized and had to be rescued by Gamera. This isn't a last ditch effort by my or anything, since Irys already lost, I just wanted to pounce on the opportunity to finally be able to use this. XD |

I would have voted sooner, but I didn't want to make my decision without having seen them both in action; thankfully I got a near-complete collection of Gamera movies [the only one I don't have now is Gamera the Brave!] and there are plenty of videos on YouTube of Nexus in combat... Ultimately, I chose Nexus. Like redgriffin22 said, Nexus is very fast, much faster than Irys, and his own energy attacks are quite destructive. If Irys fed off of Nexus, the actual attacks Irys could use wouldn't be effective, though the drain in power could pose a significant threat to Nexus, do his limited power supply and ability to function in Earth's atmosphere. But I think that two of Nexus's signiture attacks could easily destroy Irys; The Elbow Cutter, a energy blade attack that I've seen capable of killing a kaiju with one slash, and the Arrow-Ray Storm, an energy bow that fires a powerful bolt of energy capable of again killing a monster in one strike. While I don't think Irys will go down quickly, I think that Nexus just has more abilities, not to mention plenty of experience fighting against other monsters with comparable or superior firepower... the problem with Ultras are they're the ultimate anti-kaiju fighter, because right from the beginning of the franchise, Ultraman was made to be a flexible, adaptive fighter, and over the decades the various generations of Ultras have proven time and again to be formidible warriors, often far superior in power compared to the monsters they face, their only true weakness being the limited window of time they have to fight. |

“Monsters are tragic beings. They are born too tall, too strong, too heavy. They are not evil by choice. That is their tragedy. They do not attack people because they want to, but because of their size and strength, mankind has no other choice but to defend himself. After several stories such as this, people end up having a kind of affection for the monsters. They end up caring about them.” Ishirô Honda, director of the original Godzilla film... | |

As much as I hate seeing Irys go down, I don't really have anything else to say. You guys make really good points, and from what I saw in the videos, Nexus is pretty powerful. And there's just more Ultraman fans than Irys fans, so I'm kinda outnumbered here. XD I pretty much knew Nexus would come out the overall winner, but I didn't want to not give it a go, y'know? (Rhyming not intentional, I swear.) Yeah, Advent, I've seen both those moves in action, and all I can say is ouch! The Ultraman franchise is pretty awesome, and I see why you guys love it so much. My boyfriend hates it, but I'm not going to let him stop me in trying to learn more about the series, since I've always been fascinated by the concept, and right now, I'm at a disadvantage for not knowing anything! Actually, the Ultraman franchise is a pretty isolated niche in western kaiju fandom; in Japan he's a a superstar, their version of Superman [in Japan, those they consider as iconic superheroes appear in television shows, not comic books like here in the west] but in the US, Ultraman is on the pretty low end of the popularity scale; only two or three of the different series has been distributed in America, versus Godzilla and Gamera, who've had every movie released in the United States with English dubs... and Godzilla got two Americanized movies too! ... although I've recently heard that Tsuburaya Productions is planning on stepping up it's marketing of the Ultraman franchise overseas, including the United States, so we might be seeing some new American releases in the near future! Sometimes, I wish I lived in Japan, giant hornets or no giant hornets. I greatly prefer Ultraman over Superman (who I find to be a bit on the boring side). To be honest, I find a lot of our superheroes over here in the US to be rather meh. That would be freaking awesome, especially if they released the soundtracks (or re-released? I dunno if they've ever been released over here i the past or not..) over here as well. From the videos I saw, Nexus has a FANTASTIC soundtrack that I fell in love with immediately, and it would be great if it weren't so hard to find. |

^YES. They need to at least do an iTunes release (as I stated in this topic here ) so people not from Japan can enjoy them. And the Nexus soundtrack is amazing. Max has a pretty cool soundtrack as well. |

Ah, Ultraman- I remember watching the series as a kid- hard to believe even in the Us in the late 60's early 70's they actually had the series on over here. It was on a detroit tv station- I was mesmorized just like I was with the original Godzilla movies. |
