Finally got my hands on a Japanese copy. Much better than its predecessor "Mysterians". I like the intro. I also love it when I discover an exact piece of music that was used in Godzilla vs. Gigan: I am refering to the intro to this movie. The music for the intro was taken from this movie and used when Godzilla and Angurius leave monster island in Gvs.Gigan. The openning theme is also the march played while Godzilla and Anguirus cross the ocean. But I digress. The movie portrays better battles than the prequel, more action instead of stiff tanks fighting a dome. The battle march is nice. Ifukube threw together his two military marches from Varan and one from Gojira and mixed them into one long battle march. I think it works out nicely. The final battle is very fun to watch. A very entertaining movie. |

True, but Battle In Outer Space(1959) has just about everything else: action, aliens and cool looking miniature effects. Another great Toho "space opera". There may be old VHS copies of this film out there(eBay?). Obviously no R1 DVD release...yet. |

Definetly one of the better soundtracks from the Showa Era of TOHO films. |

Totally different movie. War in Space was made in 1977 and was directed by Jun Fukuda. I actually ordered that earlier this year making the same mistake, but War in Space is pretty good too. |

Umm.... That looks like a bootleg to me. Unless it is a foreign release, this film has not been released legitimately here in the States on DVD and is not carried by Amazon or any mainstream U.S. retailer currently. |

It is. I bought this item from this vendor a couple of years ago. Hopefully Sony(Columbia) will release Battle In Outer Space(1959) on R1 DVD, along with other titles like Mothra(1961) and The H-Man(1958). I've seen a few message board "rumors" that Sony may indeed be prepping these three titles for a DVD release in 2009 or 2010. |

^No harm no foul, I'm just as guilty of buying boots myself, it just always seemed kinda risky to me to actually have an online business for it. Where anyone(including Toho)can see it. And I hope those rumors about Mothra and H-Man turn out to be true. Isn't War Of the Gargantuas supposed to be coming out next year too? |

I understand. I always try to buy the official DVD of any Toho kaiju/sci-fi movie and I have, for the most part. I actually have a handful of Region 2 DVDs as well, like Mothra(1961), The Green Slime(1968) and Godzilla Final Wars(2004). The reason I have invested in bootleg DVD-Rs is simple: I cannot afford to buy more Region 2 DVDs. Most of these region 2's are $45 each or more, plus shipping, which can elevate the total price for these to something approaching $60 each, which I simply cannot afford to pay. Having done business with two internet vendors who sell these DVD-Rs, and having conversed with them both on the phone, you can believe they're aware of the risk you refer to. My understanding is WOTG, along with a re-release of Rodan, is due for R1 DVD release this year, by Classic Media. There has been, obviously, no official announcement...yet. |

^Awesome, didn't even know about the Rodan re-release, thanks for the heads up. Hopefully something official will be said soon. Never thought I would see the day when so many of Toho's non-Goji kaiju films would get legitimate DVD releases, tis a good thing to see.
Have never seen this but want to and it does sound like an awesome soundtrack.

August Ragone posted this announcement in his blog page today: http://www.augustragone.blogspot.com/ Battle In Outer Space(1959) will be released on R1 DVD by Sony Home Entertainment in 2009. Updates on the specs for this title(and the others) will follow. |

Are they going to put English titles over the original Japanese titles like they did in the Millenium Godzilla DVDs? |
