Okay, I'm not posting a summary of the movie, since a lot of you probably have it by now. I just got it a couple days ago, I couldn't resist, I had to watch it, it was urging me too!
Anyhoo, the movie IMO was awesome, one of the best epics I have ever seen! Certainly worthy of bearing a sequel. Okay here we go. The characterization in the movie was very good I think! They were expressive, and they really got into things to start things off. Especially X-Seijin, he has got to be the coolest villian (besides Belvera) that I have ever seen. He gets into his role so well that he actually scared me a bit, and made me laugh! He's like an overgrown child, which makes it even better. Ozaki also was portrayed very well, of course the hero has to be, he's cool. I love how he quoted the Shobijin a few times in the movie, it sort of reminds you that both they and Mothra still play a decent role in the film. Don Frye did an awesome job as playing Captain Gordon. The character really cracked me up, he seemed to be a romantic as well as an out-going confident hero in a way. Also, it is always nice to see an American character play in a movie like that. The Shobijin were done well, I wish they were in the movie a bit more though.... Everything else (character-wise) was awesome. Okay, monsters, my favorite part: Godzilla: he is just perfect in this movie, maybe just a little bit too strong though in certain areas. He KOed monsters so quickly that I had to rewind the part just to see it again. His moves are really awesome in this film, he's more sleak, and he's faster. The ideal King Goji. I love the end to when he swims off with Minilla, it shows that he has a soft side to him, which I think should exist in the kaiju. Rodan: I was enamored by this thing. This is currently my favorite Rodan now, his flying scenes were well done, perhaps the best in the entire movie. Unfortunately, we didn't really get to see him in any good battle action though. It would have been nice to see him and Mothra battle, that would be always a savorable dream to me. He truely was magnifiscent in this film! Anguirus: WOW! I have never loved Ang till this movie. He is totally vicious, and his thunderball attack is very powerful, enough to accidently send Rodan flying toward the Earth. In my opinion, he did the best against Godzilla out of the trio that was battling him. Another favorite thing that I love about him, is his little rolling attack. It looks so cool! Kamacuras: It's nice to see another 60s kaiju make a come back. Kamacuras is a very tough little bug in this film, and I love the new abilities they gave him. Such as camoflauging, and super-speeds while flying. Kumonga: Kumonga was okay in this film, it was a pity that Goji beat him so quickly though, we only got to see him spray a few strands of silk at the KOTM. Ths silk was interesting by appearance. He was done well in the movie, especially his design. King Seesar: He was cool, but a little freaky looking. His eyes immediatly made him look less......serious. He was very strong, I especially love the part where he kicks Anguirus towards Godzilla, that was so cool! Zilla: Since I do like Zilla, I think he was used poorly in this film. I know how most G-Fans hate him, but he is a kaiju and deserves to be respected. His city destruction scenes were awesome, but his battle with Godzilla I thought was really pointless. They used him very poorly in the film, when he had a lot of potential. Ebirah: This one is tricky to discuss about. IMO, he really didn't seem too different from his Showa counterpart. Of course he was more violent, but I think they could have done a better job on our old lobster. Hedorah: This was literally pointless. He was in the movie long enough for Godzilla to blast him. He looked okay, he was used well for the few seconds that they had him in the movie. Minilla: OMG! Minilla was so cute in the movie! He was used a lot better than the Showa one was. He actually made me laugh at times, I enjoyed him being in the film exponentially. Manda: I loved the part with Manda, his movements were totally amazing. Too bad he was killed, it would have been interesting to see him duking it out with Godzilla. A great battle that one would be. Gigan: This is the first time I have loved this kaiju! He was so cool in this movie, and he was just evil! The first battle though I thought was kind of a waste, he was destroyed by Godzilla in like 10 seconds. The destruction and the final battles though were done very well, Gigan looks very realistic. (except when flying, but he still looked awesome) Monster X: This shady kaiju was done very well here too. He was truely evil, and sort of reminded me of a villian from Dragon Ball Z or something. He is a very strong physical fighter, and has got to be one of Godzilla's strongest opponents. Kaiser Ghidorah: Now this is one mean Ghidorah. Truely one of the strongest incarnations, ranking up there with GKG. It was very cool watching him deliver his strength and weapons, he literally surprised me by his strength, and evil. The transformation from MX to KG was done well too, it looked very nice. ~Okay, now on to my favorite! Mothra: Despite her short time (well sort of) in the film, I enjoyed her appearences a lot! I have started thinking that a Mothra Song may have not been necessary in this instance. Her emergence from Infant Island was beautiful and majestic! I also love the back ground music in that scene, it gives it a peaceful touch from the rest of the movies score. Her battle scenes were done very well! My favorite part still is when the two were crashing into each other in mid-air. It just shows how powerful this queen can be! The part when she was dodging Gigan's slasher discs was very cool too! She looked so real, I was literally astounded! Now onto Mothra's death/or sort of, I don't really think she died, I mean, I played the thing in slow motion, and when she crashed into Gigan in her fiery form, it looked like something came out the other side. Therefore giving me the impression that she just may have survived. The ending too in the credits when she appears flying back to Infant Island was beautiful too, the Shobijin were all smiley. One thing that literally pissed me off though, is that nobody noticed when Mothra vanished! What....GRRRR! Not even the Shobijin, what respect for the kaiju that fought alongside Godzilla and actually saved his ass a couple of times! Well, in retrospect, Mothra was done very well, her scenes were awesome, and her character was portrayed well too. A little bit more screen time though would have been nice.... Okay, finally I'm done. The movie was very awesomely, spectacularly, brilliantly, enjoyably, wonderfully, awesome! I hope they keep making more, especially knowing the quality, and time put into this one. I give it a 8.9/10! |

Well I'm glad you finally got to see GFW and liked it so much EM; I just wish I did as well.;) Don't get me wrong, GFW is on my favorite's list, and is one of the FUNNIST movies I'v ever seen, but from a critically and logical and traditional standpoint, it sucked horribly, IMO. Then again, I know some people who's favorite film is Godzilla vs. Megalon! So just because it was "bad" crittically, doesn't mean you can't like it.;)

I see what you mean. They're some part of GFW that didn't satisfy me either. Like the "Mothra deprivation". The music was a little iffy, except in the final battle scenes, and the visit to Infant Island, plus the emergence of Mothra, those were okay. |

I'm glad you liked it EM. I know how you feel about Zilla. He may not be a godzilla, but he is cool as a monster. Mabey what they should have done is have godzilla fight 200 zillas or at least one full grown one and 200 juvnile zillas come at him at once. Heck, if they wanted to rip-off on the matrix more, as all the zillas are coming at him, godzilla pulls a neo on them, only instead of using a staff, he uses his tail to do it. Anyways, you and I and others seem to be the more open minded kaiju fans then most people out there. Hard-core, but open minded kaiju fans. |

I think this movie was decent to Zilla: after all, as much as it irks me to admit it, most of the other kaiju didn't fare much better (though they did get to either land hits or survive one blast of the ray, not that it did them much good in the end). Also, I have to disagree with this being Minya's best role. I thought Son of Godzilla portrayed the Minya/Godzilla relationship quite well. Godzilla was still fairly serious, and got irritated with his antics. It was Godzilla's Revenge that really ruined Minya (DAM is just weird for not having him age at all in over 30 years, but not offensive). SoG shows Godzilla actually cares for Minya, not like GFW's "Oh yeah, I have a son! I didn't even have to make any effort to find him!" Anyway, I'm glad GFW's given you some appreciation of Anguirus, and it's nice to see another fan who likes it (which seems really rare). I can admit the movie has many flaws, and is certainly no KOTM, Godzilla vs. Mothra, or even GMK (which I don't really like), but that sure isn't gonna stop me from having a grand old time watching it! And it's great to see all those kaiju in action! |

Agreed. Anguirus is probably the strongest of the "normal" kaiju in the movie.
I have to disagree here. The battle is perfect as-is. Having such a weak monster put up a fight against Godzilla (especially this version) just wouldn't be right.
I'm sorry, but how can you honestly believe Mothra survived that? She was on fire, with parts of her body missing, and she rammed head-first into Gigan's abdominal saw of all places. Just because she came out the other side, that doesn't mean she lived. |

There is the "end-credits" scene, which I guess you could say is a deleted scene, but how many movies do that (not counting Pixar "bloopers)? Or, for a better question, how many Godzilla movies have deleted scenes in their end credits, compared to those that have "canon" scenes during/after the end credits? |

Those scenes that play during the credits are deleted scenes. Unless you're suggesting that Hedorah survived and started rampaging throughout the city after Godzilla left... |

Nobody likes him because he was used in a movie, and was suppose to be Godzilla. We all know that he will never compare to the original. But still he is an interesting kaiju. |

Beyond the whole "not-Godzilla" thing, I generally don't like him due to cowardice and his lack of durability. The agility factor was a neat twist on a kaiju, but that was really about all I can really appreciate about him. I just hope after finally being overt in their GINO-bashing after their little references in G2K and GMK, Toho can finally put it to rest. It's been 6 years (as of GFW) and harping on it continuously is immature. |

Ok I'll give you guys my opinion on what I thought of GFW.... At first when I got the DVD in the mail, I watched it... I started off liking it, then it became way too confusing... and I didn't really like it that much. But then, it was shown in a theater an hour away from my house and I attended it... I dunno what it was, but seeing it on the big screen and watching it w/ all the hardcore G-fans... something changed my mind about that night, now I love the movie! But the movie could have so much better... Kitamura could've made more time for the movie and could've made it 3 hours long like PJ's King Kong. Things that I would've included would be... -Classic Ifukube Incarnations instead of that techno ****. The only music I liked outta the entire movie was the opening theme, the Godzilla theme when fighting the Gotengo, the opening credit music (that was nifty!) and the music where Minya stopped Godzilla from blowing away everyone (too bad it wasn't on the soundtrack). And of course, I love the "We're All To Blame" song while G fights Zilla. -As much as many love the 15 second fight between Godzilla and Zilla, I would've added more, maybe just an extra minute. An example of my vision would be they both prepare for battle, Zilla charges, G's ray, Zilla avoids it and jumps... ::heres where it would be extended:: Have Zilla hide in Sydney, while Godzilla just stands in front of the opera house roaring or doing w/e... but then Baby Zilla's would come out of the opera house and start attacking G, similar to what the Legion did to Gamera, as well as the small forms of Megaguirus did to Godzilla in GxM. He would fry them to dust, as Zilla would get pissed off looking down upon his enemy from a large building, jump down and then Godzilla would whack him w/ the tail and blow him to pieces. I like that idea. Ya'll like? -Of course more of Hedorah, I'd love to see Hedorah in flying form and destroying the city and turning people to ashes. -I'd love to have Minya have a backstory instead of just appearing outta nowhere while all the other monsters just destroy earth. I would've had a part in the movie a little after Godzilla was buried in the ice, it would show an Egg somewhere, probably Mt. Fuji or something and when Godzilla finishes off Rodan, Anguirus, and King Caesar, i'd include a little part where Godzilla looks for the egg but its nothing but shell pieces, and Minyas not there, so Godzilla leaves and continues to follow the Gotengo. -I'd definitely change Minya's moan/squeel to his ORIGINAL one, it has a lot more meaning i think, as well as Keizer Ghidorahs... i'd change it to the originals as well. -Give Mothra more airtime and include the famous Cosmo song. -Keep the same amount of Human action/drama but include more Monster action and backgrounds. -Def. more on Rodan, Anguirus, Mothra, King Caesar, Hedorah and Gigan (no offense, but I liked his original backstory of Nebula Space Hunter instead of Gigan replacing Battra) -On a funny note, wouldn't it've been the ultimate twist if Minya tried stopping Godzilla and he's like "Alright, lets go home", so as Godzilla begins to walk away, he immediately turns around and blasts Minya to hell?? LOL -and Damnit! I would've included Gorosaurus, Varan, Titanosaurus (No stock footage) and MechaGodzilla as well as KONG! thats all that I would've changed. Opinions? thoughts? |

You know I would love to see this as maybe a three hour movie. Then maybe we could have had longer battles. That was my main complaint is the short battles. With a three hour movie, the battles could have been longer for us. |
