I remember, back in 2000, shortly before G2K hit American theaters, that I was in a Suncoast video store. There I picked up somekind of horror magazine to look at, and found an artice in it about G2K; I saw a large, wide picture at the bottom of both pages showing Godzilla in the midst of Tokyo on the left and an eight-headed dragon on the right, whom I found out to be Orochi. This led me to believe that Orochi was one of the kaiju in G2K. So much for that assuption, heh. But still, to this day I don't understand why there was a pic of Godzilla 2000 facing off with Orochi. Maybe the article was discussing both films and the two pictures on either side of the page were entirely different, though similar, fooling me into thinking they were one. But I don't remember clearly enough to say for sure. When I think back to it, I'm reminded of a pic, wide-angle one, with G2000 and Orga standing on either side facing each other, Goji on the right and Orga on the left; Orga being crip after Goji used his ray on him. You can find this pic in the middle of the booklet which comes with the G2000 CD released in the US. However, the picture in question which I saw featured G2000 on the left (not right) and Orga (now on right, not left) repleased with Orochi. Come to think of it, I believe I recall seeing a dark close-up pic Orga's face in the upper corner of the article, perhaps on the right hand page, above Orochi. And I'm guessing that the magazine was Fanguria, or whatever it's called. Anyhow, does anyone know what I'm talking about? If you do, please tell me why Godzilla and Orochi where *seemingly* in the same pic together? It's been bugging me for six years now. |

I'm guessing you mean this:![]() It's from FANGORIA #195. The issue has an interview with Takao Okawara who directed both GODZILLA 2000 and OROCHI (among others)... that's why both films are pictured here. BTW, the coverage of Japanese films in FANGORIA is generally excellent. They use writers who live in Japan so they get a lot of info direct from the filmmakers. Most of what gets covered in the US is second had info or speculation so it's nice to see accurate information right from the source. One of their main reporters in Japan is Norman England, who has worked on Japanese films, directed his own movie THE IDOL, and knows just about everyone who makes these films. He wrote the G2000 article you've been wondering about all this time. |

...Godzilla looks like he's grinning in that pic.
XD I'd love to see Orochi, myself... it looks interesting. Haven't been able to track down a copy though... |

Didn't he do some form of SPFX work on Gamera 3? I distinctively remember him being in the credits, but its been a while and I need to rewatch that movie. Probably wrong, but then again I could be right. Care to resolve this dilemma? |

Thank you, Keith! Thank you! Thank you! I was pulled out of the store by my mom before I had a chance to read much into the article, so I only really got to see the pictures. I must admit though, I feel rather stupid now, because looking at those pictures again I realize just how poor my memory is, lol. But thanks again Keith! What would we do without you? ....not much, I'd imagine, lol. |

Heh. Orochi looks like Ghidorah. That would have been a cool movie if they'd made it...which they probably never will. |

Norman is a writer and photgrapher, not a special effects technician. He did a few days on the GAMERA 3 set, covering the film for FANGORIA. Since then he's done all kinds of stuff for the films... he was a till photographer on several recent Godzilla films, worked on subtitles and English text for GMK, had cameos or small parts in a few movies (he's the guy that says "Cruise missile?" at the beginning of TOKYO SOS), and made his own movie with many of the Japanese filmmakers he knows. One fun thing is that the miniature crew for GODZILLA AGAINST MECHAGODZILLA made a building with a sign that reads "Noman's English School", and that building was reused for the Japanese sequence in KILL BILL. |

You're welcome.
Don't be too hard on yourself. It was a magazine you saw for a few minutes 7 years ago... you can't expect to remember it exactly. You described it well enough that I knew exactly where to look for it.
We all help each other. That's one of the great things about boards like this. |
