Is it just me, or do the best kaiju fights take place at night? Think about it:

Godzilla vs Kaiser Ghidorah- at night
    Gamera vs Irys- at night
Mothra vs Cretaceous Ghidorah- AT NIGHT
Ultraman Tiga vs Gatanzoa- AT FREAKING NIGHT (even though that one was a supernatural darkness)

    Must I continue?
    Ha!

True enough, however I can think of plenty of good n's that were day battles. The DAM fight, the Ghidrah: 3-Headed Monster battle, Kong vs. Godzilla, original Godzilla vs. Mothra, Godzilla vs. Megaguirus, Gamera vs. Gyaos (Guardian), Gamera vs. Zedus...they create very different atmospheres, but both day and night have excellent potential.

Night adds a bit of mysteriousness or somesuch. Things are creepier and just more awesome at night.

Night battles are cool, as long as they are not trying to hide shoddy special effects.

80% of the time, that's why they fight at night.;)

It seems that they went from primarily day battles in the Showa series to most of the good ones being at night. Might have just been director styles or styles of different eras of film making. *shrugs* Kaiju battles are cool no matter what time of day they take place. :)

I sort of beg to differ.
I beleive that day battles are more exicting.

i have always thought that things are better at night. but i like a lot of battles at day. maybe night is better because the effects are more visible. in the showa, i saw godzillas beam looed like smoke, which would be harder to see at night.

I'm sure that all the battles in Godzilla vs. Biollante took place at night.

What about the last battle? If I remember correctly, it took place at night.

Anyway, I think that both night and day battles are good. Just the night battles can be more showy. ^_^

Night battles look great, in a big , lit up city. I liked GMMG, where the battle with Mothra started in the day, and ran into the night. It was a great transition, and gave the impression it was going on for hours.

The final battle between Gamera and Irys I still believe is the most beautifully shot Kaiju battle ever. The fire in the city, Kyoto Station model is very detailed, great human/kaiju interaction, ect. Just that shot when you can see the city, the two kaiju amongst the sea of fire is brilliant, and it just wouldn't have been as good at Day.

I also think that in Day battles, the sky always looks really bad, because they can't get a realistic enough sky background.

I'm not talking about the battles, I'm talking about the very very end of the movie. You can see lil' goji blowin' bubbles.

Yeah, they turn out to be more interesting a lot of times. They turn out a whole lot flashier and cooler at night, rather than the day. That, and nighttime settings for just about any movie creates a nice atmosphere. ^_^
