Here we can discuss the dubbing of Toho's films, not just Toho, but any asian film, may it be action, kaiju, samurai etc. Talk about dubbing, which is the worst, which is the best that you've seen. I myself don't have a best, but I do have a worst, which is 'Godzilla's Revenge', even though the voices fit the characters, it was really out of sync in some places.

Son of Godzilla didn't have the best dubbing either. But if you're talking about all kaiju films, in Gamera vs. Guiron I swear that I saw this scene where a kid was drinking and talking at the same time. Well finishing his sentence.

I found I like the subtitled versions of the Heisei nad some of the original Showa films now on dvd to be a lot better than the dubbed versions.

I did like the dubbed version of the movie Wasabi starring Jean Reno. The original is in french, but the english dub is better given they never used a voice actor for Jean Reno to dub. A good movie too. :) Jean Reno plays a cop who kicks the crap out of people first, asks questions later.

Most english dubs of Godzilla-movies I've heard so far were quite ok. There are some better ones like the one of "Son of Godzilla" or "Godzilla vs. Biollante". The german dubs (that based on the english ones) of Godzilla-movies were often better, featuring better voice actors (but I think that there are some exceptions, e.g. the english dub of "Godzilla vs. Biollante" is better than the german one).

I also found most of those original english dubs of Hong Kong movies (I've heard so far) quite good, like the one of "Dragons Forever", "In the Line of Duty 4", the Mad Mission movies, "The Prodigal Son", "Wheels on Meals"... they are actually of better quality than most Godzilla dubs. I often dislike the german dubs for these movies, especially for the old movies, because they often tried to make it funnier and goofier... I really hate that.

The worst english dubs I've heard so far were the ones of "Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla" and "Four Robbers" (a cheap Hong Kong flick, but the dub can be quite entertaining too, for it's stupidity... )
I also like some old german dubs of other movies like "Dirty Harry".

But normally I prefer watching movies in their original language. ^_^
"Hold on a minute! That's an U.F.O. out there!", "Destroy all Monsters" (dubbing)

When it comes to newer films or newer DVD releases I prefer sub, but for the older showa films that I saw back in the 80s I prefer dub for sentimental reasons.

I like pretty much all the dubs. The only ones I hate are the ones Tristar and Sony dubs (except for Godzilla 2000's dub). But the best for me was Invasion of Astro Monster's dub. And the worst GMK's dub.

You're blaming the wrong company. Sony did the English for GODZILLA 2000, but all their other films went straight to video so Sony used dubs made by Toho.

GMK is a Toho dub. I agree that it may be the worst dub in the series because some of the English lines are the exact opposite of what was said in the Japanese version. It's terrible.

If you're going to discuss dubbing, you guys should identify which version you're talking about because some movies like SON OF GODZILLA and DESTROY ALL MONSTERS have more than one English dub.

The AIP dub of DAM was far superior to the INTERNATIONAL dub of the film, now in circulation on video, and the Scifi channel. The AIP version is hard to find, nowadays.

I didn't have a problem with the majority of Godzilla dubbings. Though with Godzilla Final Wars, the words didn't match up to the mouths in some places and I found that distracting.
The Korean movie, The Host has pretty decent dubbing. I think the worst of the worst is animes. Many have voice overs that just don't fit the character at all.

Showa Godzilla had major dubbing problems. I even recall hearing a women's voice used for a little boy.

    Best dubing:

Trigun- some parts where the dubbing isn't in sync with the mouth movements, but actually rather enjoyable.
G2K- enjoyable, and not at all annoying in the least.

    Worst dubbing:
The Host- Korean film; the dubbing just didn't seem to really match the characters, and I found it to be really annoying at times.
The Return of Godzilla- two words" HACK JOB
    GvsSG- :nonono:
    Baka bakka.

I thought Tokyo S.O.S had some pretty bad dubbing too.

The two worst in my opinion are Gamera vs. Guiron and the AIP version of The X from Outer Space. I have recently come across what I believe to be the international dub for The X from Outer Space, and it is even worse than AIP's dub. The english characters have accents while the Japanesse characters sound American.
As for Gamera vs. Guiron, there is absolutly no acting comming from the voice actors. Even in dubbing there has to be some acting going on and this movie has ZERO. The kids sound like adults trying to disguise their voices and reading straight from the script (also sounds like they can hardly read).

To me the best dubbing (as far as accuracy) would be Godzilla X MechaGodzilla. The international dub actually follows the Japanesse dialouge pretty close.

I can't really choose a best dub as far as sound because I do care for dubbing. I prefer to watch the movie with subtitles. But if I had to choose, I would say Godzilla vs. Biolante.

If I get a monster film on DVD, I watch it with subtitles and never bother with the dubbed version. But, I'll say that after watching the Millenium series movies in Japanese, never watch them dubbed. Although, I am quite happy with GMK's dub.

Seriously though, you'd think that Toho could hire some extra dub voices. I watched Godzilla vs Destroyah and then GMK, and realized that the same guy does Kenichi Yamane in GvsD and Yuri Tachibana's friend in GMK (forgot his name..... again).
