The correct name is not "shinsei"

    Just a heads' up...

Some fan sites (including this one) have called the last series of Godzilla films the "Shinsei Series". There's no such thing... "shinsei" is a made up word created by some American fan who didn't know the real name. Toho's official name for the films is the "Millennium Series". If you want to share accurate info on these movies, a good place to start would be with the correct title.

Oh dear, I shall change the name of the section. That's odd...I never knew that until you mention it, thanks for the heads up.

Actually, shinsei does exist. It doen't give any meaning to the Millennium series, it means stuff like divine, mostly. As well as rebirth.

Doesn't it mean the current period in the Japanese Emperor-throne? too lol?

No, Japan is still in the Heisei Period. Emperor Akihito assumed the throne in 1989 and is still the emperor. Akihito's father reigned for 63 years (the Showa Era) so the Heisei will probably have many years to come.

Kiryu 2 is right that shinsei is a Japanese word. The point I was making is that American fans coined their own version (meaning something like "New Era") that is separate from the original Japanese word. When fans refer to the last wave of films as the Shinsei Series they're using an incorrect name that is not recognized by Toho. Toho has an official names for these movies so that's what should be used.

It also means application, which I find as strange.

Shinsei means New Era, so I think it is a suitable title.

Saying it is made up by the west is rather silly as well because technically so is the Heisei series. In Japan that is called the "VS. Series" due to most of the films using the VS in the title.

What I want to know is what the next series will be called. :D

The name "Heisei Series" was not coined in America. Both "Heisei" and "VS" are used for the second series in Japan, but in conversations I've had with Toho filmmakers they have referred to those films as the "Heisei Series".

Toho would actually have to make a new series for there to be a name, and they have no plans to make new Godzilla films anytime soon.
