That's what's so great about the show; all the characters are given such a rich background and motivations. Mizorogi is initially portrayed as a kind of stereotypical "bad guy", but you later discover it was the fear of his own mortality that Mephisto used to in order to corrupt him. Then in his last episode he manages to summon the last of his energy and sacrifices himself to let Ultraman win - sort of a redemption of his past actions. I like the ambiguity of his relationship with Nagi as well. They used to be very close, but were they lovers? Edited by Jim Ballard, Feb 9 2010, 08:38 AM.

OMG! I was always confused as to what their relationship consisted of. Were they Mentor/Mentees? or Lovers? Or close friends? I think it could have been easily any of those. |

I always thought it was just a matter of respect for one another. When Nagi joined the team, she was technically green to the whole monster fighting thing. Mizorogi came in and inspired her because he didn't falter in the face of death and fought with no care. When Mizorogi literally sold his soul to the Devil, Nagi lost the allied respect she had in him. Nagi did keep that respect as Mizorogi a fighter. When dying in her arms, Nagi saw that he was still human and regained that respect she had before in him. Well...at least that's how I see it. |

That's a good point. At the end of the series Komon mentions that he was inspired by Nagi, much like she was inspired by Mizorogi. She just gave into anger, Komon did not. It's another reason why I love Nagi so much---she's almost a tragic character but is saved in the end by both her determination and Komon's. |

I finally finished the series on Crunchyroll a few days ago! It's absolutely marvelous! ...And has sadly set the bar too high for the other Ultraman series. I watched the first episode of Mebius the other day and my gods, it was campy as hell. It's a shame, I really like Mebius' design. I hope the series doesn't stay as campy as the first episode, but... |
