Just to be clear. Although I did state on my video nobody is to post in the 'pinned' topics until the applications are chosen next friday, what I meant was nobody is to post in the Daimyo's Hall or the Offical Orders topics. This character creation can be posted in as of now, so get creating your characters!

I will get us kick started.

Name: Tokugawa Hirotada

Age: 36

Occupation: Beloved Daimyo of the Tokugawa

Home Province: Mikawa (currently stationed at Echigo)

Personality: Determined, resolute and headstrong Hirotada went against the initial wishes of his people and rose up against the Imagawa and despite the pleas from his close family sent his only son away to his rivals to broker diplomatic arrangements. This is typical of his dogged determination to achieve glory and prosperity for his people no matter the cost. He is a patient man and in the face of adveristy often remains stone faced and calm, nobody can claim to have seen him raise his voice. He expects the same from his clansmen and when he asks for something to be done, he expects it not only to be carried out, but carried out with expertise and efficiency.

History: Hirotada was the son of Matsudaira Kiyoyasu (7th head of Mikawa Matsudaira clan) and an unknown lady, probably the daughter of Aoki Kaga no Kami Norimune. He was known in his childhood as Senshōmaru, Senchiyo, and Jirōzaburō.

Following his father's assassination in 1536, Hirotada was under the protection of a loyal retainer, Abe Sadayoshi. He allied with the Imagawa, and with their help was installed at Okazaki castle in Mikawa.

The alliance with the Imagawa brought him into conflict with the Oda clan. In 1540, Oda Nobuhide attacked and took Anjo castle which was held by the Matsudaira family. He was assisted by Mizuno Tadamasa. Oda's son Nobuhiro was installed as the lord of the castle.

In 1541, Hirotada married Dai-no-kata, his step-sibling and daughter of Mizuno Tadamasa. Ieyasu was born to them a year later.

He joined Imagawa Yoshimoto to fight Oda Nobuhide at the First Battle of Azukizaka in 1542. They were defeated. His uncle, Matsudaira Nobutaka, rebelled against him in 1543, and joined Oda Nobuhide. However, in 1545 the Oda paid for their treachery when they were caught by surprise by the Saito clan who stormed Oda's castle at Owari and murdered Nobuhide.

With their nearest rival defeated and deciding that the Imagawa were becoming more of a shackle then help, Hirotada against his people's wishes struck out at the Imagawa causing an uproar across Japan which ultimately led to open warfare with three major clans, the Imagawa, Takeda and Hojo. Despite unfavourable odds and a couple of setbacks, Hirotada and his clansmen fought for their lives and eventually wiped out the three powerhouses making others stand up and pay attention. After securing an alliance with the ever expanding Hattori by exchanging his son Ieyasu as a hostage, Hirotada ordered his men to pick off a few weak and politically isolated clans along the Western shores of Japan to bolster his position.

Eventually the Tokugawa found themselves landlocked with the Uesugi, a prosperous and advanced clan to the North West. Both clans had expansionon their minds and co-existing was not an option. Hirotada ordered his men to war once again. Ieyasu was traded for a second time, this time with the Date who were allied with the Uesugi and this allowed the Tokugawa to wage war with the Uesugi without fear of others becoming involved. The Uesugi are now weakened and the Shogun have declared the Tokugawa enemies of the State. It is once again up to Hirotada to direct his clan againt the odds to victory.

Name: Hojo Matoki
Age: 32
Home Province: Sagami, Hojo (Now owned by the Tokugawa)

Current Occupation: Farmer

History: Born into the Hojo Family, Matoki was brought up well and exposed to the greatest luxuries of modern life. He studied warfare ever since he could read. In his teenage years he spent countless hours studying the arts of fighting and winning wars. His oldest sibling, Hojo Ujiyasu, was heir to his father's throne. When they were both of age Ujiyasu appointed Matoki military advisor.

Soon, Ujiyasu was as good as ignored during war meetings due to the extent of Matoki's knolege and wisdom in battle tactics. Over time, Ujiyasu became jealous of Matoki's superiority and betrayed his brother, banishing him from the Hojo Clan and erasing any records of his brother's existance out of the history scrolls.

Soon after that, things fell apart for the Hojo. Tactics fell out the window and Matoki sat and watched in hiding as his brother destroyed the Hojo clan with his actions. Instead of taking time to train and gather troops to throw on the Hojo's enemies, Ujiyasu cut training times in half and threw endless waves of scared and untrained troops towards the rising power of the Tokugawa until he was left with nothing but a few reserves in his leftover castles, allowing the Tokugawa to quickly destroy what was left of his home tribe.

Following the war, Matoki has quietly snuck back into his home province of Sagami, now under control of the Tokugawa clan. He works as a farmer and is payed decently, but to this date he still misses the sounds of battle and the debates of the war room.

Personality: This man is, in short, smooth. Very smooth. Some even called him "Matoki the Smooth" back in his day. Every word that escapes this man's lips is picked very carefully. He has the seemless ability to even get a man to agree to kill himself and make it seem like that's the right thing to do. He also has a dark sense of humor, thinking it funny when a dying man on the battlefield shrieks with pain in some irregular tune. But despite his dark qualities, he always puts his people's interests at heart and makes sure his soldeirs are not killed in vain.

Fallen Angel

Name: Izayoi Fujiko

Age: 23

Occupation: Miko (Shrine Maiden)

Home Province: Central Shinano

History: Born in a remote mountain village on the border region between North and South Shinano, Fujiko had to earn her keep from a young age. With the land in the mountains far from fertile and her family too poor to feed an extra mouth, she had to work the fields from a young age. It seemed as if her life was destined to be that of a farmer's wife with hardly any other prospects for the future.

The only bright spot was a kindly old monk, the only attendant of the village's small shrine. Each day he brought water from the well to the farm workers and Fujiko took a liking to him quickly. They would spend many an hour together, the old monk teaching her how to read and write, a skill that was uncommon to say the least among the villagers. He even transcribed a copy of Sun Tsu's 'The Art of War' for her, which he had brought along from one of his travels to China along with the new ideas of Buddhism. In return for his teachings she would sing for him and all the other workers in the field, who seemingly always worked with more vigor whenever they would hear her lovely voice.

When the monk passed away, Fujiko was 16 years old. In his will he bequeathed all his earthly possesions to his young friend on the condition that from now on she would stay in the small temple and pray to the gods on the villagers' behalf. Fujiko used a portion of the money to get her parents a better strip of land for lease. The rest she used to manage the temple as the old man had wanted, incorporating the old Shinto gods of Japan and newer Buddhist ideas from China in harmony and the villagers were thankful for her work.

Tragedy struck a few years ago, however. Located in the region that was then the border between Tokugawa and Uesugi lands, the village found itself subject to raids from both sides when war inevitably broke out. Neither of the armies cared for the poor village. Those that followed behind, deserters and marauders, however did. Fujiko tried her best to tend to the wounded villagers in the small temple, but there was no hope. Eventually both her parents were slain along with the rest of the villagers, even though there was nothing else to take but their bare lifes. The nameless village vanished from the map, if it had indeed ever been marked on one.

The temple, Fujiko's life's work, fell to the flames. Bereft of family and home, Fujiko climbed the highest mountain of the region and began to sing a song of mourning. Tears flowed freely as the young woman opened her bleeding heart to an uncaring world. When the last note had faded in the wind, Fujiko was prepared to take the final step off the cliff to end her misery once and for all. However, at the last moment she noticed 12 men in splotched armour and with rusty swords kneeling down behind her. They were ronin, masterless samurai, who roamed the lands in search for a worthy cause. When they heard Fujiko's song, they had found it and Fujiko in return had found a reason to live.

Now the young Miko roams the Tokugawa lands with her 12 ronin, sworn to defend her to the death. She is determined to see to it that no other child should suffer the same fate as her. In her mind the way to such a future is clear. Only united and under a strong Shogun can Japan know peace and the kami look down benevolently on the land of the rising sun. She has come to the conclusion that only the Tokugawa can achieve such a feat and Fujiko has vowed to make it happen, even if the only thing she had to offer was her song of sorrow and regret.

Name: Aomori Kaiso

Age: 18

Occupation: Bow Ashigaru (Noto garrison)

Home Province: Noto

Personality: Kaiso bears no ill against the Tokugawa, as he holds a fierce hatred against his former Uesugi overlords. He is very protective of his family, especially his little brother. He'd prefer to stay in Noto to protect his family, but he will go where the daimyo orders him. Between the recent realm divide and the long-needed improvements to his home province, he's rather excited to be living in "interesting times."

History: Kaiso is the middle child of three siblings. His elder brother was conscripted by the Uesugi, dying when his army smashed against a Tokugawa castle like the Mongols against the divine wind. He half-expected to share such a fate when the Tokugawa swooped in and liberated the province from their Uesugi masters. Kaiso was fearful at first, but the Tokugawa take care of their people; disgusted by how grossly mismanaged Noto had been under the Uesugi, the Tokugawa promptly set about improving the province's quality of life. Mesmerized and enthralled by this turn of events, Kaiso left his family in the fishing village (soon to be harbour) to join the Tokugawa's new militia. For what they had done for his family and province, Kaiso is determined to return the favour.

Name: Hayate Mizurugi
Age: 19
Home Province: Owari

Current Occupation: Spear [Yari] Samurai in the Tokugawa army.

History: Hayate was born into a relatively wealthy family, traders by heart, they lived just outside the City of Owari. The family owned quite a bit of land on which they grew the rice with which they had built their small trading imperium on and for that, they had a lot of farmers working for them. One of them, an old Veteran, became a special friend for Hayate as he had once protected him, from the other children in the settlement. Hayate had always been an outsider, although he longed for nothing more, then to belong to society. After his parents heard, that Hayate was getting bullied, they ordered a home tutor, so that Hayate would not have to leave the estate.

Life in the estate was boring, until the settlement was raided. Back then, the Tokugawa Clan were still Vassals of the Imagawa Clan, who denied the Tokugawa Clan their help in bringing the recent raids to an end. Hayates family suffered an awful loss as their land was pillaged and ransacked. But the farmers, loyal to the Mizurugi family, fought back, as did the family themself. Even Hayate joined in the fight (of course, without the knowledge of his parents). On the Rice fields, he saw how the Farmers fought against the raiders, armed only with their simple tools for farming. It was there and then, that Hayate saw how the old Veteran defeated over 10 foes in battle, armed only with a hoe and decided for himself, to also take up arms.

Hayate, after the fight had ended, begged the warrior to teach him how to fight. Reluctant at first, the warrior secretly gave the young boy lessons in wielding a spear, the same weapon with which he himself had fought many battles and slayed many men. Hayate proved to be a worthy student and soon surpassed the old man at the age of 17. His decision, to become a warrior, was not taken lightly by his parents, who had wanted him to take over the family trade and rebuild the Mizurugi trading empire. After a presentation of his skills with the spear, his parents knew that there was no stopping their son, and let him put his life, in the Hand of the Tokugawa Daimyo.

Starting out as a simple spearman, his skills and the knowledge that his parents had taught him, let him ascend the ranks of the military. At the age of 19, he was one of the youngest Yari Samurai in the army. It is from this day forth, that the Daimyo shall decide, what will be in store for him and his fellow soldiers.

Personality: Honor bound and ambitious, Hayate always seeks to be at the top. His youthful brashness was erased by the brutal training of the Samurai and has been replaced with patience and bravery. In the army has found the group he so yearned for as a child. His love for competition, often brought him into many picky situations, but it has also brought him to where he is now, part of the elite warriors. He also loves to eat and to cook.

Chaos Angel

Name: "Chikage"

Age: Unsure, in her 20s.

Occupation: Kunoichi

Home Province: Iga Province, Hattori

History:

Chikage was born the daughter of a whore, she was not gifted with a fortunate start to life; to her mother she was an unfortunate accident, and one that her career could ill afford, and so Chikage was abandoned, left out to die nameless and alone. As a twist of fate would have it she was discovered and taken in by a servant of one of the more powerful and wealthy families within the Hattori; but this was no act of generosity, merely a man scavenging a discarded tool. As Chikage would learn in later life she had been picked up by a man known only by the moniker ‘Kurai’, an elusive man who trained and coordinated shinobi for generations of the family he served.

Chikage’s new masters were fanatically loyal to the Hattori clan, to the extent of being seen as an extremist faction even amongst the other high-ranking families; they took the typical Hattori methodology as stealth and subterfuge, but applied it with brute force, taking public claim for the bloody assassinations left in their wake, and drawing attention upon themselves in order to gain standing with the daimyo of the Hattori family, with a reckless disregard for the people who served them.

To this extent Chikage was perfect for them, a newborn infant with no parentage, no history and nobody who would miss her. From an early age she was both trained in the arts of the ninja as well as indoctrinated into subservience of her masters, there was no childhood for her, only training and servitude. Quickly she began to excel, for this was her only means to survive; failure in her training resulted in physical and psychological abuse, beatings and starvation were commonplace should she disappoint, and her presence was not tolerated should she cross paths with the family she served. By the time she hit her teens she moved with catlike swiftness and absolute precision.

It was at this point she was put to use in more practical ways by her masters, dispatched to remove political rivals in the delicate game of intrigue that constituted the upper echelons of Hattori society. With her first blood she was even granted a meaningful name by Kurai, and within a few years Chikage has gained a reputation amongst those who were even aware of her existence for subtlety; even should she fail at assassinating her target, she was never caught, always managing to slip away from those who would pursue her without betraying and disappearing from sight, and diligently punishing herself suitably for any mistakes.

She spent her life mostly unaware of life outside the service of her masters, but with the expansion of the Tokugawa, they sought to use her as a means to establish themselves further in the eyes of the Hattori daimyo, for what could be a greater gift to lay before his feet but the news of the death of Tokugawa Hirotada, to whom the Hattori were begrudgingly allied.

So Chikage was sent alone into unknown territories with an impossibly ambitious mission; to personally slaughter the Tokugawa daimyo and his heirs; few actually expecting her to succeed, for the loss of her life holds no meaning to those who use her as an instrument of war, and the off-chance that she could triumph is all that it takes for those who hold power over her to throw her life away.

Personality:

Outward displays of emotions were absolutely discouraged for Chikage, as was speaking unnecessarily, and as a result she is stoic and introverted, finding herself unable to relate to others. She knows little of the ways of the world outside her own grizzly line of work, but holds a manner of resentment for her lot in life, one which her broken self-worth will not allow to surface.

Name: Hayashi Tetsuya
Age: 27
Home province: Izu (former) Suruga (present)
Occupation: Master of the Magistrate
Background:
Tetsuya was raised in a small village in the countryside of Izu. At the age of 10 several youngsters were taken by the ruling Hojo clan to work in the nearby gold mines, him included. After 5 years of servitude arose the chance of freedom. He overheard the guards speaking of a great force approaching from the west. A few weeks later the Hojo were defeated at Mishima, their clan destroyed. With his captors confused and in disarray he fled. In the long years he hadn't forgotten the paths they took to the mines and with great difficulty traced back the journey to his village. However his elation at rediscovering his home was quickly dashed. The buildings were abandoned and the fields overgrown. The villagers must have moved away, unable to support themselves with the loss of so many of the younger generation. Then Tetsuya knew he would never see his family again. There was nothing left for him there, and so he wandered through the countryside, unsure of what to do or where to go.

Whether by chance or fate he had unknowingly crossed the regional border and stumbled upon the famed school of Suruga. The master there took him in and taught him mathematics and philosophy. Tetsuya quickly became his favourite student. He even learnt of the human body and the theory of heliocentricity from visiting explorers from the west. He became the assistant and advisor to the schoolmaster and when he died in 1559 Tetsuya took his place. He facilitated the school's expansion to a magistrate and continued to maintain and improve its efficiency. However he was not satisfied and felt wasted there.
he wished to repay the great Tokugawa clan for defeating his overlords and giving him a second life. He swore to pave the way for victory for the Tokugawa and secure the Daimyo's family's place in Kyoto for generations to come. He sent this message to the Daimyo and hoped that his wish would be granted and his oath would be fulfilled.

Name: Hino Akiharu

Age: 18

Home Province: North Shinano

History: Hino was the son of the Uesugi's Daimyo brother. His father, an honourable man, received him at his castle when he was brought to his steps. Hino was brought to him by his grandfather, and old man with a long white beard, that inspite his age maintained his back straight. "We cannot feed another mouth, especially a bastard mouth. Keep him and assume your responsabilities" he said when handed Hino to his father. His father accepted him in his house but not in his family. Hino rarely saw him, as he spent most of his time out in the battle fields conquering lands and honour for the Uesugi.

However, despite the fact that he was not recognized as his son, at his father's orders, Hino was trained in the arts a son of a samurai should. He learned to fight, both with spears and swords. He learned to ride a horse and use a bow. He was also instructed in the are of the letters. As he grew up he lived in the shadow of his father name.

But in later years a war crumbled the Uesugi empire. His father died at South Shinano leaving, not only North Shinano but his family too, undefended. When North Shinano followed the same fate as it's southern sister-city, his two half sisters and half brother were murdered with half of the residents. The Tokugawa were making sure that no sons or daughters of important generals ever grew up to be able to bring vengeance. When the house was invaded, Hino wore servant clothes, as he always did. In the midle of the bustle he escaped with other fortunate servants.

Hino had heard rumours of outsiders, people from other worlds that lived over the sea. He set on a journey on on finding a way to get out of the warful land. It seemed there was nothing left for Hino in this cities. He does not remember his mother, or at least where she lived, and his deceased father never ever mentioned her nor anything related to his birth. His half brothers were dead, and as sad that it made Hino, he knew there was nothing that can be done to bring them back to life. He now roamed from city to city gathering information on these misterious outsiders. No ships ever wondered over the seas and the only way to escape this cursed lands towards a peaceful life was to sail away.

Name: Nagao Yusei

Age: 39

Home Province: Echigo (Now Tokugawa owned)

Occupation: Samurai (Former member of Uesugi Kenshin's Bodyguard)

History: Nagao Yusei was a member of the Nagao clan a ruling clan in the lands of Echigo of which Uesugi Kenshin had originated from. When Kenshin changed his name to Uesugi he then began his rise to power in Echigo thus leading to him becoming ruler of Echigo and the Uesugi Daimyo.

Thus began a new chapter of life in the lands of Echigo, as Kenshin began conscription for his army to begin his expansion into further realms of Japan. Nagao Yusei became a samurai and loyal retainer to Kenshin due to his family connection. With the traveling came new experiences for Yusei.

Kenshin had brought the Uesugi great power in his times as Daimyo, as he had finally conquered his old rival and arch nemesis Takeda Shingen. At this time the Tokugawa were still struggling to stay alive. With that began Yusei's newfound interests in politics and economy as being a bodyguard of the daimyo can become rather draining and boring. Leaving time for Yusei to educate himself in the dirty and crafty ways of politics and mercantile. This led to Yusei's nickname the Wise among close friends, and led to him being mocked from other samurai for not staying true to the art.

However, this did not sway Nagao Yusei's pursuit of ultimate knowledge, as he soon took up tactics and military leading roles as a new hobby and interest. With agreement with Kenshin, Nagao Yusei became part of Uesugi Kenshin's war council.

Then, tragedy struck like an arrow shot from a skillyfully crafted bow upon a speeding armored horse by a dedicated monk, master to the art of the bow! Kenshin was slain in combat! Nagao Yusei was recovering from a bad wound he received from in battle defending Kenshin, whilst he was almost perfectly healed and ready to undertake his duties once again, he received the news of Kenshin's death.

The tragedy of his most idolized leader in his life physically shook Yusei to the ground in pure shock of acknowledging that this ill news was true. In time Yusei recovered, but his personal loyalty to the clan died that day, and soon the only thing holding him in was the sheer duties of the samurai. To the fight to the end would be his only freedom from the broken Uesugi.

To make matters worse was the new Daimyo, a distant relative in the Nagao family to which Yusei never liked his name and never remembered it unless spoken to him. Yusei was dismissed from the war council and thrown into Samurai retainers to defend Echigo in case of Tokugawa attacks. The Daimyo was never seen from again. Soon the mighty Tokugawa began marching on Echigo, to which Yusei was captured and was ordered to commit Seppuku. But before Yusei could begin, the Tokugawa Daimyo stopped him.

Hirotada had allowed Yusei to live on the account of Yusei's reluctance to fight as the other retainers did even throwing down his sword after being outnumbered, as if waiting to die. Yusei took a liking to Hirotada, which resembled in his mind Uesugi Kenshin and agreed to begin serving the Tokugawa. He began seeking to somehow get involved in the Daimyo's affairs one way or the other just as he did in Kenshin's war council.

Personality: Yusei always had been known for being very kindhearted at best, and seething with anger or being depressed at worst. The death of Kenshin had turned Nagao Yusei into a distrusting, cold and calculating, wiseass of a man. Although he still had a sense of humor, joking around was not in his mind typically. Still Yusei remains to be the lovable one among friends and family, but when matters come down to serious affairs, he is entirely different.
