"Tsk. A challenge is to cross a river blindfolded and with one hand tied behind your back. Only you will get hurt by it, if you fall. To gamble the lives of our soldiers and generals on vague assumptions is not what I call a challenge. I also do not call besmirching our lord's good name by making a premature strike a challenge. I'm not hell-bent on making the Hatekayama our vassal and I never was. Now that you've actually given me a reason to take the settlement, you can have it. It would have been cheaper for us to make them vassals and your fear of rebellion is unfounded. But have it your way. You have a strange sense of fear. The Date and Hattori who have armies and ressources don't seem to faze you, but the prospect of having a small clan actually become our long-term ally has you cowering in fear. I still shudder at your words, though. You speak of simply taking settlements. You're not fighting cows. Our enemies have a will of their own and they're not gonna just let you waltz through unopposed. The Yamana army that stands at the gates of Mino even now should have made that very clear to you. Your pride and arrogance will be your downfall one day. Hopefully you won't drag the rest of us with you. As long as we're clear that we won't break the alliance and attack the Hattori prematurely, I've got nothing else to say on the matter." |

Yusei's face dropped down, once again Fujiko, you continue to get in the way... His face lifted, slightly red,"My pride and arrogance will be my downfall. You have no right to say this. Your pride and arrogance are getting in the way right now. I am trying to explain my plans and do my job, yet you continue to put my plans and actions down. Hypocrisy!" "Of course I know the Hattori will put up resistance, but not any resistance that can kill our army. If we are attacking with two armies, if one get's tied up, the other can continue. The Date are still dead, no matter what you say, they cannot muster an army, that is why that bribed army is being put to use." "You are truly a hypocrit, you know that Fujiko, you seek to call out my strange sense of fear. When you risk the lives of undefended citizens in the east. If the Hatakayama rise against us, they will have the resources and troops needed to make an impact. We will be wasting countless lives of soldiers and citizens ending their rebellion. You fail to realize this and you have shown arrogance in the fact that they won't. Tell me Fujiko-sama, why is it you seek to get in the way of doing my job, when haven't much done yours." "You are a hypocrit, Fujiko-sama, if you will let me do my job, then I can let you do your job. Childish arguments are just wasting our time. We spend so much time arguing and no time agreeing. If you keep getting in the way of my plans, how can we win this war. Is it pride and arrogance, Fujiko." |

"I'm done arguing with you, Yusei. Have I not just agreed to your plans? You can have that dammed out-of-the-way province that won't be of any use to us. I have to pull every answer out of your nose, only to get some vague answer as to why you want to do something. I have just laid the matter to rest by making a compromise despite your continued antics. Now you're the one being childish. There is nothing in the way of serious discussion about what you have just said. I'm not gonna sit here and let you drive our men into their deaths unprepared because you are being a baby, banging your rattle on the ground and screaming "Fujiko is being mean to me!" If you want my support, I'll give it to you. But only if you can convice me of the fact that it's a good plan. I'm not gonna give you unquestioning back-up while you have your head in the clouds and getting hung up on people calling out the stupidity of your actions. Now stop being a child and actually get to work on those plans of yours." Edited by Naughty_Ranko, 15/09/2011 - 05:03 am.

Hirotada's head moved back and forth as words were hurled across the hall. "Enough!" He then paused as he waited for the arguing officers to compose themselves. "Fujiko-san, I have no plans on allowing any of my men to strike out against the Hattori without my say so. I have learnt from my past mistakes of dishonouring treaties, I do not plan on making the same mistake again. Yusei-san, it is not your responsibility to determine who we go to war with, it is merely to organise and prepare our armies for war with our current and possible future enemies. The decision to break treaties is decided by Fujiko and I, you should know this. Your two main concerns for the foreseeable future should be this. One, the war with the Date; it needs bringing to a swift and successful conclusion with minimum Tokugawa casualties. As you have seen with my recent sanction of bribery of the Date threat. I would much rather spend Koku, then risk the lives of my loyal subjects. Two, consolidating our southern borders for when the Hattori decide to break the alliance with us. By making the preparations as early as possible, as soon as they declare war, we can have our armies pounce because they will be in position to do so. Once the war with the Hattori is declared, then you can start fantasising about your grand schemes to capture Kyoto." Hirotada stood up, his throne scraped on the floor creating a high pitched, blood curdling sound that caused everyone to flinch. "I need some air. When I return I expect my hall to be in order and constructive conversations to be taking place. If this behaviour carries on, God only knows the consequences I shall start handing out." The Daimyo then left the room and whispered to the guard on his way out. "Get my assistant in here scribing the conversations for when I return." |

Motohisa was watching the exchange, eyes darting back and forth and his mind ticking to process the information and make new calculations. When there was a gap in the talking, Motohisa said “As our Wise Daimyo said, we must focus on our current plans and work together. As I am sure you have realised, these new troops we have to be paid. They are using up a large portion of our income in their wages, so this raises the question if all of these troops are needed after we have captured the nearby land. However, instead of just disbanding them to free up our income, I would recommend we use them to charge forward at a quick pace into the land of the date, meanwhile, our Brave Daimyo could prepare his grand army to crush the large date forces our traders had previously reported to be on Sado, that is if that is what he wants to do, he can kill their cowardly Daimyo himself and slaughter their army personally, a glorious feat that our Honourable Daimyo could easily accomplish with his battle knowledge and it would be a fitting end to the Date . It is likely that army is almost the entirety of their forces left, so a quick strike at the date land on the mainland will significantly boost our economy and allow the newly bribed army to stay in the field. Also, if we capture Sado that will once again be a boon to our treasury, as there is a gold that can easily be accessed on the island. This is a solution perfect for everyone. Our agents get to carry on their good work, our economy will flourish, we get to keep that bribed army employed and active, and our daimyo gets a glorious battle, one that fits a warrior of his awe inspiring skill. However, in the short term we still need to ensure the happiness of the people. Despite our reduced spending funds temporarily, I shall soon begin work creating rice exchanges, to allow our people to have an organised way to live as well as make areas more productive where these are constructed. I can later use these to encourage men with great skill to have more opportunities to become merchants, who will be able to greatly assist us in any economic troubles in the future. Also, some of you may be aware of the cancelation of the Market in our fair capital. You likely know I have my council, and that it was the developer of Mikawa’s decision to cancel work on this. I have decided that he must have been doing this to upset people and try and make people begin to dislike me. He is an honourable fool who wishes to do nothing except harm the Tokugawa. As a result, he has been expelled from the council, I no longer believe him adept enough to fulfil his roll with his changing plans and his terrible plans when he had the never to ask for another place. No one has shown themselves worthy to hold a place on the council, so I have closed it for the time being until people who are competent show themselves. However, I must show the people it was not me who hated them, but the corrupt developer who had completely deviated from his original plans he had written about. I shall instead call a gathering of people to ask them what they want for Mikawa, and with some luck I may also be able to see some talent there. But enough about that, all I need to know is what funding and what is required. I beseech you to be reasonable in your requests, as our profit has been reduced so we cannot afford some of the luxuries we have in the past. Also, Yusei-sama I would like to know your impressions of my plan. I am sure you have a great plan of your own, and it may be similar to my own idea, but I would just like to know what you think, it’s better that we work together than stand alone. Also, remember if you follow my plan we will be able to allow more recruitment, so you will be in a better position. I always aim to help my fellow officers and the people of the clan in whatever way I can.” Having finished speaking, Motohisa waited for the responses of the other officers. |

Ieyasu stepped into the great hall apprehensively. He looked around the the large room taking in the surroundings. He had been in here before only a handful of times but now he seemed to notice things that didn't appear to be there before, or at least he hadn't noticed them in his previous visits. The intricate carvings on the beams, barely visible in the the dim light cast onto them by the flickering oil lamps, the large and rather unsightly painting of Hirotada that had been recently hung up behind his throne and sat on a pedestal by the door, a scroll with golden holders currently open and etched with various handwritings. This was where the clan's future was decided, the most important place in the whole of the Tokugawa land. Ieyasu slowly made his way towards the throne. He had thought of this moment for many years now; the opportunity to lead his clansmen, but now the time had come he was feeling uneasy. As he reached the chair he ran his right hand over its arms, they were cold but smooth to the touch. He looked up at the painting of his father and stared intently for minutes. He had barely had any interaction with him through the years, especially having been forced to live as a hostage to not one but two of the clans opponents as per his orders. As the years passed by after his return he had slowly began to see the motives behind his fathers actions and although he did not want his father to know, he had long since forgiven him for what he had done. In fact he had quite grown to admire all he had accomplished for the clan, especially when he looked around at the state some of the others were in. His appearance on the castle steps as his father was heading off to perhaps his most dangerous task yet, hopefully would have been enough for the Daimyo to realise this. Iesayu finally took a seat in the throne, it was a lot firmer then he expected. He wondered how he would be able to sit for any length of time listening to conversations before suffering the ill effects of such a hard seat. Just as he sat down several serving girls entered carrying trays of food and drink. A short time later three officers appeared behind them, they bowed to Ieyasu before taking their positions in the hall. There was a brief silence, they were obviously waiting for him to speak. He stood up and took a deep breath. "My father as you know is currently in Sado, about to strike a killing blow to the Date and as such has placed me in charge of the clan's affairs until his return. I would like to first of all address your curiosity, as you will notice the Shinobi Elder is no longer with us. My father deemed it appropriate to relieve him of his position. In due course I will be looking for a replacement by way of application. Know that for the time being, I will be in charge of all agent movements." Ieyasu felt a little more relieved now. The officers barely flinched at the news he had just announced and this professionlism made him feel more confident to be able to speak in front of them. "I have read the reports from last season and it seems that things have gone according to our plans in most respects. My main concern until my father returns is making sure we are prepared for the Hattori war, for it is coming. I want to ensure that upon my father's return, our armies are prepared and our border settlements are defended for any Hattori assault. The Date situation is virtually taking care of itself at the moment, we should not be focussing the bulk of our time with them anymore. One other slight area of concern however is the Ikko Ikki. With the Yamana gone, are they going to be content to keeping only two provinces. Is their movement into our own lands a sign that they are spoiling for a fight? Fujiko-sama, I will trust you will ensure that we are not surprised by anything that they may pull off." Ieyasu sat down once again. "My father would also like you to know that the tea ceremony he had planned will take place upon his successful return from Sado. Hopefully by then our new Shinobi Elder will have settled down. Also, I feel it would be a welcome gesture to allow any advisors or council members you have to attend. That will of course be planned in more detail closer to the time." Ieyasu sat forward in the throne and peered at the officers. "Don't let things fall into ruin on my watch!" Ieyasu commanded jokingly before grabbing a cup of Sake from a serving girl, raising up in a self toast and swigging it back in one gulp. "Now to work with you." Fujiko was drumming her fingers on the tatami floor impatiently. For once she had hoped that somebody else would start off the discussion. That hope was in vain. In her eyes that was the trouble with the council. Nobody was willing to lay out their plans unless prompted to and thus the official orders always tended to have an element of surprise to it. Fujiko didn't like surprises. She sighed and turned to the young lord. "I see that you share your father's unfortunate habit of not reading alliance treaties all the way through, Ieyasu-sama. Let me point out again that they have full military access to our lands as do we to theirs. They're not doing anything wrong. The realm divide has made you distrustful of everybody, but you misinterpret the Ikko-Ikki's intentions, my lord. I have recently had a talk with the High Priest of the Ikki clan and know what they are up to. They do not plan an attack on us. They are merely marching through. Being our ally they, too, are at war with the Date. What you percieve as danger is our valiant allies attempting to make the long trek north to fight our war, even going so far as to leave their own homeland unprotected. The fault here, if there is any, lies with us for not finishing off the Date sooner. In all my years I have never seen a more faithful ally, not a truer friend, than we have in our vassals the Ikko-Ikki. Do not let paranoia cloud your judgement on what is the most noble and honourable intention anyone has shown us in years. If it were up to me, I'd give all of those men a damn medal. Having been made a hostage twice, young lord, you have seen the dark side of diplomacy. But you must also learn to trust those who deserve it. Incidentally I plan to arrange a marrige between your sister Fumiko and the Ikko-Ikki daimyo next summer. This will cement our relations for years to come and I hope it will also set your mind at ease. Do not fear the Ikko-Ikki. As for the Hattori. They are not gonna attack us anytime soon. Mochikata will be another 6 months before he is in position. I hope the Kensei will correct me, if I'm wrong, but I think all the preparations will be complete at that point. It is always more favourable to start a war on our terms rather than theirs and this seems to be the best time to do it. If you wish to start the war within the next year, Ieyasu-sama, I've devised a means to do so without breaking the treaty on our end and thus no diplomatic penalty. Once we are ready for war, we shall simply make an unreasonable demand of 10.000 koku and couple that with a threat. They will break the treaty and attack almost immediately." Fujiko turned to the Sword Master. "I hope that agrees with you, Yusei-sama. Your long wait will finally come to an end. Now I hope you will boggle our minds by actually telling us how you plan to surround Kyoto." She then turned to the Tatami Master. "I've got one last thing on my agenda. I've received a letter from the metsuke accompanying Hirotada-sama on Sado. He reports Portugese flags and a Christian chapel at the harbour. You know what that means, right? It's a Nanban trade port. I assume, we're agreed on tearing it down the moment we conquer the island? I'm also most interested in your thoughts on the Hattori war. As you probably know, our trade with them is considerable, more than 2.000 koku per season. Can we make it, if that trade stops once war breaks out?" After having talked so much, Fujiko's throat was dry. As she lifted the cup to drink a sip of tea, her eyes wandered around the hall, waiting for the other officers to finally speak up. |

Having looked at Fujiko’s body language before and throughout her speaking, Motohisa was far from impressed. However, still with an unreadable expressionless face, Motohisa began to address her question. “You are correct that our trade with the Hattori forms a substantial part of our profit and that it is currently what is funding the majority of our construction work. However, I have realised that war with the Hattori was inevitable and that we cannot rely solely on them to keep us out of debt. That is why since the day I was appointed I have been focusing on long term growth, to keep us making a profit even when our trade becomes dire. I knew this situation would one day arise and I knew our armies would increase in size and as a result upkeep would increase so I had to focus on our long-term. As a result of my hard work and planning, I can now safely say when war with the Hattori commences we will not be in negative income and shall maintain a profitable economy. However, the sooner the war commences our economic growth will be slowed due to lack of funding for construction work, so I request we delay war with the Hattori as long as possible in order to allow us to be in the best position possible for when the war finally starts. However, if the war does start early either through chance or the fact the Brave Ieyasu-sama wants to destroy his enemies sooner, I will be able to keep the clan running internally and make a profit. Also, the fact you dare doubt that I would destroy all influence from those corrupt Europeans immediately is an insult. I dare not risk the wrath of the Gods from allowing these swine to begin our land. The gods alone are the only force that could defeat us and our fair and generous rulers, so we still need to be careful not to anger them. Also regarding Sado, I would like to offer you a temple there Fujiko-Sama, this is for multiple reasons. First, it would benefit the entire region as it would help reduce any foul Christian influence that may occur there due to their Europeans. My mercantile contracts in the region from before the Great War with the corrupt Shogun that I have managed to maintain contact with have reported that the Europeans have caused no trouble yet, however a less honourable friend I have, reported that he has found the European merchants and has now befriended them, and they have group together to try and convert the Date Daimyo to their foul religion in order to spread their influence. This just proves just how un-honourable the Date are, if they are even considering these insane Christians. Furthermore, I would like to use this as a time as to build bridges so to speak. I know we have not seen eye to eye at times, so I hope this token would help restore friendship between us and once again have peace among us all. This temple can be a grand symbol of the Gods and would also allow you to have a large place of your own for your Clan Assembly and anything else you wanted. Any amount of money is worth it in order to restore trust and friendship between us. “ Motohisa then stopped facing just Fujiko and turned to make sure he included Yusei in his vision “It also saddens me to ask all of the officers to spend as little as possible in order to allow for maximum development for our economy to prepare for the fast approaching hard times. Once our economy is once again fruitful after the war has started we can resume normal spending. “ After waiting a few seconds to try and judge the other’s reactions, he turned to faced Ieyasu and then began to speak again calmly, but in a much more pleasant tone and slightly less serious, although his tone still maintained the impression everything Motohisa said was serious. “Wise and Honourable Ieyasu-sama I want to congratulate you on doing a very impressive job so far while your father is away. I never doubted your talent, it must run in the family but you are exceeding all expectations I had. I am sure my congratulations mean nothing to one as prestigious as yourself, but I just couldn’t resist the urge as I was so awed by your skill. On another note, I believe you should be the one to choose when our war with the Hattori begins, as I assume you may wish to be the one to lead our glorious armies to victory. Your name shall strike fear into the heart of our enemies. Whatever you decide to do, I shall support your wisdom and our treasury will also be able to support you too.” Having finished speaking to Ieyasu, Motohisa turned back towards the other officers, while still keeping Ieyasu at the edge of his eyesight, and waited for someone to respond. |

Fujiko sighed. "You really need to stop fighting with me for the sake of fighting with me, Motohisa-san. I wasn't insinuating in any way that you would not want to get rid of the Nanban trade port, after all we've been through this in Hitachi. I was merely ponting it out in case you hadn't noticed it. Verification never hurts. As for a temple in Sado. I certainly agree with you that one would help in the reconversion of the populace, although the situation doesn't seem as dire as it was in Hitachi from what I know. If we can spare the ressources for it, I'd be more than happy to see this happen. But please don't dress the matter up for me. Why on Buddha's green earth would I want to hold the Clan Assembly on Sado? An isolated island on the furthest reaches of our realm? Who do you think would travel all the way there to bring their proposals instead of bringing them forth conveniently here in the capital? Sounds more like you want to get me out of your hair. If I want to visit a temple, I can always go to Mino or Shimotsuke with it's hallowed ground. I do consider you a good officer when you're being honest and reasonable, Motohisa-san, but I do pity you. I pity you for believing that friendship and loyalty can be bought." Fujiko repositioned herself slightly, so she could face Iyeasu-sama again. "As it stands, my lord, goading the Hattori into war sooner rather than later is merely a suggestion. The Tatami Master has brought forth some good points as to why we might want to wait a little bit longer. On the other hand our troops on the border would just sit there and consume all that upkeep. In your father's absence you must decide whether or not we take the initiative." With a smile Fujiko slyly tipped an index finger to her nose. "Of course, there is always the possibility of a vote. I could set up a public poll and Motohisa-san and Yusei-san can both address the people to argue their positions. I'm certain that your father would appreciate the initiative and not take offense at you acting on the wishes of the people. Just say the word, Ieyasu-sama, and we'll let the whole clan decide whether we go to war or not." |

Yusei perked up at the Head Priestess's last few suggestions. He had remained silent waiting to hear the othet two officer's suggestions first. He turned to face Fujiko,"Fujiko-sama, I must agree with you for once that a public poll will definitely go well and help resolve this issue we have. That way instead of arguing and doing little, we can let the public decide what would be best for us. As you well know, I support going to war on our terms." "My plan for this war with the Hattori is to immediately rush to surround Kyoto within 1-2 years time." He stopped and turned to adress Ieyasu,"People have been wondering if the Heir will ever get to see battle, well, I plan for you to lead the main front against the Hattori. Mochimori will be a supporting army to clear any troublesome armies that may stick around. Each army will begin sharing attacks on the Hattori. If one army is recuperating and keeping the public order up, then the other will be attacking another Hattori settlement. By the looks of things the Hattori armies will not be ready, should we start war on our turns. Should we not, then I think we will have some resistance." "As for the Date, they are fragile and weak, ready to be toppled like a broken bamboo tree. The bribed army can continue wreaking havoc in their lands and most likely finish them off in a year. The Daimyo will offically challenge the Date Daimyo on Sado this year and will win as our lord's army is way above the Date's army." "Fujiko-sama, these are just the basics of my plan. Any elaboration needed please just ask. If you pinpoint a certain area of my plan. I can spend more time describing every detail rather than trying to elaborate on anything." |

Having allowed the Sword Master to finally speak, Motohisa turned to face Fujiko but kept Yusei in the corner of his eye “Fujiko-Sama, I would like to correct you in your thoughts that I am trying to buy your friendship, all I wanted this to be is a gesture of good faith and I had hoped that I would be able to relive the tension between all of us, just like our Honourable Daimyo wanted. Also, we should not pressure Wise Iyeasu-sama into a certain course of action, he should choose if he wants to ask the people or impress his father with his own intellect and decision making, that is unless you for some reason doubt that Iyeasu-sama is capable of making the correct decision, whatever decision Honourable Iyeasu-sama makes is guaranteed to be the correct one, as he is very capable and wise. But enough about that, I would like to confirm that whenever we attack the Hattori we will be able to cope. Also, I do not believe that we should have a small temple as the centre for the clan assembly as it is disrespectful to the people; it’s like an insult to them. So, that’s why Sado would be perfect, we should have the largest temple constructed there so we can deal with the religious problems without using up the time of our valuable monks. So, as it will be the largest temple it will be the most respectful to the people of the clan to have the assembly there. Also, the fact it is an island it can be good as it will allow those who visit the temple time to reflect and be inspired. Furthermore, even though this would be unusual, we could use our military ships to provide transport to people who wish to attend the assembly. The ships will have little to do once the Daimyo has left the island, so we can put them to use that way, Having an entire island dedicated to the people will be the perfect way to show we care for them and that we value them as they are the reason we are here today trying to make their lives better, while at the same time providing glory to our wise and honourable leaders.“Having finished speaking, Motohisa turned to make sure he had all the officers clearly in his sight range. |

Ieyasu sat patiently whilst the Tatami Master finished his latest speech. When he had finished he felt it was time to interject. "Thank you Motohisa-san for your obvious concern but I am more then capable of speaking for myself. Last time I looked my mouth was still in working order. However sometimes I find it prudent to listen to others rather then flap my gums incessantly." Motohisa looked positively shocked but was not allowed time to remonstrate as Ieyasu continued. "Fujiko-san, firstly I cannot help my suspicous nature. As you say, no doubt my father has passed his characteristics on to me, not to mention being traded like a piece of meat to other clans probably took every last ounce of trust out of me. Do not get me wrong, I do not intend any ill moves againt the Ikko Ikko, I am just merely being very cautious of their presence. Maybe it is as you say and they are utilizing clauses in their contract with us, but as much as you believe their innocence, no amount of words will allow me to rest easy with another clan's army in my lands. I will defer to your judgement on the matter, but rest assured if they grow hostile, I will hold you responsible." Fujiko's eyes narrowed, Ieyasu had already managed to upset two officers in a very short space of time but he showed no signs of remorse. "I now consider your suggestion regarding allowing the people to decide upon whether we go to war with the Hattori. An interesting proposition indeed. My father always harps on about how much he loves the people, this vote would probably send him wild with delirium. However, I am not totally convinced we are completely ready to start war on our own terms. First of all there are the agents in Date lands up north that I am ordering to head to Mikawa with immediate effect for redeployment in Hattori lands. That will need at least a year and a half to complete. Then there is the planning for the war. Do we think that our beloved Kensei with his mystical plans to capture Kyoto in some kind of clean sweep is capable of creating the necessary plans to commence this war in such a short space of time? It will require in depth discussion with all of you to get things right, not to mention precise and detailed planning of army movement and planning for every possible eventuality be it good or bad. Maybe he is..." Ieyasu shot Yusei a glance, the Kensei's face was beet red and his face was scrunched with anger. The Daimyo's son had made it a full house. "But if he isn't then the war will need to be delayed for at least one more season. The timing doesn't leave much room for negotiation, the season is fast approaching and a vote needs time to take effect so I will need to make a decision now and live with it." Iesayu sat in silence for a moment pondering whilst the officers looked utterly stunned at the young man's attitude today. After a couple of minutes silence, Ieyasu spoke again. "I will stick with my original thoughts. The war with the Hattori will not be started by us this season. We will spend it finalising our troops positions, finishing off any last necessary building work and getting our agents closer to their new targets. If the Hattori do not declare war on us after this season has ended then we will take the initiative in the following season." Ieyasu stood up, he was growing restless after being sat for some time. "When this war does begin with the Hattori we will have a new Shinobi Elder. I hope that all of you can work together to accomplish victory, because as I sit here I see nothing more then point scoring and bickering. How my father has put up with this for so long, I have no idea. You better hope that he returns in one piece from his escapades in Sado because if I am in charge here for any length of time, there will be change!" Ieyasu then walked quickly past the officers with no further acknowledgment and left the hall. Edited by damo2986, 24/09/2011 - 12:59 pm.

Yusei dropped his head down as Ieyasu left the room. IEYASU, you are an incompetent bargaining tool, if you weren't Hirotada's son I would lead you to your death, however you are... He slowly looked at Fujiko-sama, self righteous and idealistic, always bickering with other officers because you are always right. Finishing his thought he picked himself up and spoke,"Ieyasu may have a point, my wild dream of surrounding and taking Kyoto isn't rational. Therefore, we shall have set up our armies. Any last recruitment will take place within Mikawa and Owari should the need arise. Mochimori will be set in position near the bridge of Owari, Ieyasu, who just left recently, will be behind Mochimori. When our eventually starts, may it be this year or the next, Omi will be the first target. From there our armies can move based on information relayed to us by ninjas. Our objective is to take the land surrounding Kyoto, from there we can send one army to deal with the Hattori and the rest will focus on the Shogun. For now we will await Mochikata and our agents Ieyasu-sama is sending us." |

After Ieyasu left the room, Motohisa was gently shaking his head and looking down, clearly paying no attention to what the Sword Master was saying. After Yusei had finished speaking, Motohisa looked up, with his brow scrunched up in thought. Suddenly, it relaxed and he began speaking, looking at none of the other officers “Ieyasu-sama is a great man, and he will one day be an excellent ruler of the clan. Already, he has shown us that he is assertive and will step in where needed; this is an excellent quality of a leader. I had not realised the full extent of his immense wisdom before, now I can see why he must have found me, and all of us for that matter, annoying.” Fujiko, I propose we try and get along better, as I’m sure you will agree our arguments are harming everyone. Please, accept Sado with my assurances that I am not trying to get you away from me or that there is some other reason. It is simply a gesture of goodwill towards you. I do sincerely believe that an island of tranquillity would be perfect for you. To further show you I have only good intents, I will offer to build anything on that island you desire. It can be your island of perfect spiritual peace and it shall be easy to access via ship, I shall make sure of that. If there is anything else you want, please do not hesitate to ask. I do still recommend having Sado as it will have the greatest temple in the clan if you accept it or not, and I fear the people will be insulted if we do not offer them the very best. Enough about that for now, I believe Ieyasu wanted this meeting to end when he left, and so I shall leave as well. After writing up the orders I have a very important tour of the clan’s lands to undertake. I shall return by spring next year, in time for our next meeting. “ With that, Motohisa rose and began to calmly walk towards the scroll. |

(Note this is not my character speaking, just a fairly crucial thing about him, I figured it would probably be best to say it here just to ensure that all the officers know and won’t treat him as if he was there). The Tatami Master was scheduled to return months ago. No word from him has arrived and no messengers announcing delays have been sent. The Tatami Council room is empty except for the loyal guards who watch it, patiently waiting for their master’s return. The door to the room remained sealed shut, and no one is permitted entrance. Whispers are rapidly spreading among the common people, it is impossible to hide the fact an officer is missing, especially considering he made his mission of surveying the land and talking to the farmers so public. The lack of information is troubling, but people care in varying amounts. After all, it might just be a problem with the horses or he’s busy assisting some farmers with something. Then again, it could be far worse. |
