**************DON'T READ UNTIL PART 90 IS UPLOADED, IT MIGHT SPOIL THE VIDEO. I AM POSTING IT NOW BECUASE I AM OUT UNTIL LATER TONIGHT.************

The season's happenings were written on A scroll of parchment and handed to Hirotada for his perusal. He took a few moments to scan the document and a weak smile crossed his face, the events were pleasing but still much work had to be done. Once he had finished reading he turned to address his officers.

"I would first like to welcome our two new officers, although your lateness was not pleasing it is good that you have finally decided to grace us with your presence. Now with the formalities out of the way it's down to business.

Kurimoto-san, I do appreciate you eagerness to get stuck into business but your orders showed that you had not had time to discuss things with your fellow officers and that they were rushed. Also, are you not aware of how I have been conducting this clans affairs over the past few years? I would like to remind you that I do not sack settlements, I am trying to liberate Japan, not leave it in a smouldering ruin. As a result, I resorted to the plans that I had already prepared some time ago, it's a good job I did.

Things to consider for next seasoM; Ieyasu and Mochimori have armies in position in the Hattori's lands, Fuyuhira is very close to landing his army on dry land and now Mochikata comes with a small force of his own, maybe the troops currently in Tamba could merge with them to create a fourth army. That will give you plenty to think about in the upcoming season. Forget about further recruitment, I want the four armies already at your disposal to be your main focus. Ensure they are maneuvered and positioned as to cause the Hattori the most problems. I want a swift end to their existence with minimal casualties." Hirotada then turned to the Shinobi Elder.

"Speaking of which. I would like Mochikata and Fuyuhira to be given Metsuke before they embark upon their campaigns, that goes without saying I'm sure. I also took note of the situation with the Silk and have decided that chasing after something that appears far fetched at this time is not to happen. The Chosokabe pretty much scuppered our plans in that respect, so we should focus on our war effort without Geisha for now. Yorimasa is doing a good enough job at causing the enemy generals to jump at their own shadows."

"That is all I have to say at the moment. I thank you for you concern earlier Fujiko-san, you didn't seriously believe I would have carried out such dishonourable acts did you?" Hirotada gave her a cheeky grin.

"Construction policy is open for you to do as you wish Kaiso-san, all of the rice exchanges and ports have been upgraded to my liking, so do as you wish from now on. Now begin your discussions, there is still much to do."

"I am proud to say that we did not have to resort looting cities since the large Hattori force had moved first. But we must address the matter of how to proceed with this war, I believe we can quickly gain victory by first eliminating the large hattori army by a staunch defense of Seffsu. After that leyasu should easily be able to capture all the settlements in the area with the exception of Kyoto and Iga. Thoughts or suggestions?" Kurimoto looked around at his fellow officers awaiting a reply.

Kaiso nodded to the daimyo. "With the improvement of the Rice Exchanges, I think we should now focus on farming. I've noticed that our food stores are running now, so it seems like the ideal time. Uzen and Iwate have excellent soil that can easily be improved, as does Mino. These are the best areas to upgrade for the time being, budget permitting."

He shot a stern glance to Kurimoto. "Oh, and Sword Master? Keep Mochimori in line, will you? When the order was given to fix Omi's farmlands, he was supposed to repair them, not demolish them! I have no idea whether there was a miscommunication or if he felt it was unsalvagable, but the bottom line is that Omi now has the most basic rice paddies imaginable! This needs to be rectified at once!"

Fujiko smiled at Hirotada. "If I hadn't pointed this out to you, I wouldn't be doing my job very well. Still, I should have realized that you would never condone such a thing. Please accept my humblest apologies."

She pursed her lips. "Concerning religious affairs. All traces of Christian influence have now been cleansed from the province of Hitachi and Wakasa's Ikko population is at a state where it doesn't affect public order." She paused. "However, a slight situation has arisen in Fukushima. It seems the extended presence of the Ikko Ikki daimyo has led to the conversion of about 10% of the populace."

Fujiko tried to hide her embarrassment with little success. "He's a charismatic man as your daughter Fumiko can attest to. Now that he has left, the situation would probably resolve itself over time. But if we can spare the funds, I'd ask of our Shinobi Elder to recruit a monk in the neighbouring province of Shimotsuke and send him to Fukushima. That would return things to normal much quicker."

Then she turned to the Sword Master. "Since you asked, I'll gladly share my thoughts with you and tell you how I would do it. Please direct your attention at the map."

"The battle for Settsu has become unavoidable, but I'm sure Ieyasu-sama can handle it. The battle is outlined in red. The Hattori only have enough forces left for two good fights.

Afterward the garrison from Tamba should take over Settsu, outlined in light blue. They would be our border patrol. After the army near Harima is beaten, there won't be much left they can throw at us from that side, but we should keep an eye out for the Chosokabe nontheless.

Ieyasu himself in yellow will take Kawachi in stride and continue on to Iga, where he will join forces with Mochimori's army in purple. Between the two of them they can defeat the Hattori army in the field easily and then take Iga.

While this is going on, Mochikata in green will finish up the last of the Chosokabe invasion force near Owari and then march his half-stack army into Hattori lands. He'll make a beeline for Ise and then continue in a straight line to take Yamato and Kii.

The final piece of the puzzle is Kyoto. After the battle of Iga, the troops will be rearranged. The best and freshest troops will go with Ieyasu to Kyoto. Any spares will rally under Mochimori and move to assist Mochikata's advance.

By that point Okubo and his troops should have landed in Wakasa, inked in dark blue. He will team up with Ieyasu and they'll besiege Kyoto with two armies. An assault on a fortress with that many samurai archers would be suicide, but they should have no problem defeating the Shogun's army in the field and then take the capital."

Fujiko took a deep breath. "Of course those are just my immediate thoughts and still need to be fine tuned. And there's always the chance of unexpected events happening and so corrections might need to be made on the fly. But that's how I'd do it in a nutshell. Feel free to make alterations to this suggestion."

EDIT: (OOC: If anybody else wants to plot out their ideas in a map, I've attached the blank screenshot that I've used for this plan. It's the exact state of affairs at the end of part 90.)

Kurimoto began to smile slyly "Her strategy is very good" he thought to himself. "And with all of this happening with my Lightning War doctrine we would be at Kyoto within 6 seasons. Her knowledge of warfare would be invaluable to my planning." "Yes" he said, " I do believe we could make the attack of Kyoto a Three pronged pincer attack. As you can see."

"And Kaiso I will instruct him that next time you give him an order he follows it." He said solemnly.

"I see no issue with training an additional monk to deal with the repercussions of the Ikko Ikki's march, and I foresee little need of him near the front lines so it should not be problematic to simply have him travel to the areas where the Ikko Ikki have made their presence felt.”

“As for our other agents, their path has already been set. Our ninja are to provide the necessary support to our armies whilst the monk will provide morale support. As for the request for metsuke for the additional two armies that should be unproblematic to achieve, though I doubt its necessity at this point; the Hattori are sure to be running out of ninja at this point considering that we have swatted them down like flies, and all of their assassination attempts so far have been thwarted by our current metsuke.”

“As for the battle plan, I feel confident about what has already been discussed. The only point that I think needs addressing is to ensure that Mochikata’s army gets the support for Mochimori’s army sooner rather than later, so that troops his troops are not spread too thin. His army is to capture three provinces after all, no doubt losing troops along the way due to fighting and to maintain public order, so it might be worthwhile hastening our surplus soldiers so that he simply sweeps through the lands, as opposed to struggling.”

"I agree with Chikage. Mochikata will definitely need the reinforcements from Mochimori."

"Converging 3 armies on Kyoto seems overkill. It will only tie up our combat power in one spot and leave the coast susceptible to a Chosokabe invasion. Between the settlements of Settsu, Kawachi and Kii we should have the ability to pull together a full-stack army to guard against any unforseen threats."

"Kyoto itself is not as hard to take as it seems. First of all, the Shogun won't move his army out of the province. So we can attack whenever we want to. Secondly it's an archer heavy army. This is an army we need to defeat in the field. They would be a formidable defense force coupled with the citadel, but forced to sally forth due to a siege, even one of our armies could probably take them. Two will make it a sure victory."

"I have been thinking about the upcoming military movements some more and I've realized that our plans so far hinge rather heavily on the fact that the Hattori do the sensible thing. They are desperate, however, and desperate men don't always behave rationally." Fujiko made a face as if she had bitten on something sour. "Like our former Kensei for example."

"Be that as it may. I have formulated a new plan. Bear in mind that it's not a revision of what we've already discussed, but instead an alternate course of action based on different Hattori movements. Here's the map:"

"So far we've been operating under the premise that the Hattori army near Harima will march on Settsu and the Iga garrison stays where they are, like they have done the past two years. There is, however, still trouble to the west in the form of Hattori rebels and they might decide to pull that Harima army back and attack Settsu with the forces from Iga instead."

"If that is indeed the case, I suggest the following. Ieyasu would stay in Settsu permanently. He will fend off the Hattori attack from the east and then hunker down to deny their second army entrance into our lands for whenever they come back. That would have the added benefit of having a full-stack army near the coast to guard against a possible Chosokabe invasion."

"In the meantime Iga will be left completely defenseless and Mochimori can conquer it easily, if he strikes as soon as the garrison leaves. He will then immediately double back and meet up with Okubo and the two of them lay siege to Kyoto."

"The plans for Mochikata would remain unchanged, going in a straight line to take Ise, Yamato and Kii in quick succession, of course after dispatching the remnants of the Chosokabe invasion. But after the defense of Settsu the Tamba garrison would move down the center and take Kawachi. From there they could then merge with Mochikata's army and give us a second full-stack army to defend the coast."

"As I said, this doesn't render the previous strategy void. But it would be a good fall-back plan in case the Hattori decide not to play ball in what we expect them to do. What does everybody think of this alternative under the changed circumstances I described?"

Hirotada peerd at the new map provided by Fujiko. His eyes scewed up as he focussed on the various lines that had been drawn.

"The plan seems sound, should the conditions you have outlined be fulfilled. You make a good point. The Hattori no doubt are beginning to realise that they are in serious trouble and as you state Fujiko-san, they should be expected to do some desperate things. The one thing to take away is that we should be prepared for our plans to be changed at a moments notice, if something unforeseen occurs.

We can reduce the possibility of unforeseen events occurring by ensuring our plans are detailed enough. Vague orders at this stage are useless at a time where precise maneuvering is required to ensure that none of our soldiers die needlessly." Hirotada glared across at the Kensei.

"I hope you are taking this in. You have requested fellow officer's opinions on military strategies but as of yet, not enlightened us on what thoughts and ideas you have. It seems to me you are having other's do your work for you. If that is not the case then please prove me wrong."

Kurimoto quickly shifted his gaze to Hirotada, His expression was extremely serious "Great Daimyo I would be stabbed by a thousand katanas before I allow someone else to do my job. My input is this both these plans that have been laid are magnificent. We shall now begin the execution phase. I also believe that the Hattori may be desperate enough to launch an assault on Omi. In that case if we can hold the city, then Ieyasu will have to act as the second army in the assault of Kyoto, after he liberates Iga. If Omi is lost then we must reconsider our strategy and Okubo's army will not be able to besiege Kyoto. He will instead have to help in the recovery of Omi."

The daimyo was surprisingly quiet as everybody sat down in the council chambers. Kaiso, in an unusually chipper mood, decided to kick things off.

"The final push is nigh! I would not be surprised if we next meet within the halls of Kyoto! But for now, let us attend to the present.

Omi's farms have been restored well, but I did not realize the potential of their soil. They should definitely be upgraded to the next level. Kaga is another surprise... you don't really expect a military province like that to have such fertile soil. As with Iwate and Uzen, the neighbouring Ugo and Miyagi are also ideal to improve. Any other construction and spending, as usual, will be at our daimyo's discretion.

The research into Heaven and Earth is almost complete. Perhaps a little late for the overall campaign, but hey-ho, at least the Shogun will have fifty percent more arrows raining down upon him. I imagine that at this late stage, further Bushido research would be fairly pointless, so I think we might as well expand on the Way of Chi... probably Calligraphy. After all, peace will soon be upon the land; people will take up the brush and the plow more than they will the spear or bow. To put it simply, I think we're at the point where civil development supersedes that of the military."

"Indeed," Fujiko said. "It seems our long road has nearly come to an end."

"There's no more danger on the religious front in the foreseeable future, unless we intend to take Harima which has a Nanban port I think. But so far that hasn't been part of the plan. The Ikko-Ikki army has thankfully left our lands and will soon attempt to relieve the Hattori of the rest of their western provinces. Wakasa and North Shinano are back to 100% Shinto-Buddhist belief. Fukushima and South Shinano have a few believers left, but their numbers are declining and not affecting public order."

"Slightly worrisome is our relationship with the Takaoka which is steadily worsening. It is time for your daughter Machiko-sama to marry into the clan to cement our relations. Unlike Neneme-sama she's shown willingness to go. Like Fumiko-sama she'll marry into a clan that is our vassal after all, not a potential enemy. That should suffice."

"There's only one thing bothering me. That last Hattori army. It seems to me that they've given up on the provinces surrounding Kyoto. However they might decide to circle around and launch a counter offensive against the Takaoka. Their armies wouldn't have a chance against a full-stack Hattori army which has nothing to lose. That's why I think after Kyoto is taken we should send one of our armies to Tango or better yet Tajima to keep them safe."

"Perhaps Ieyasu," she said with a sly grin. "After all Machiko-himesama will need an escort for her wedding and she told me that she'd love to have her big brother give her away at the ceremony. Why not make the honour guard a full army? It'll be her dowry, a generous gift that will ensure the Takaoka's continued survival against the Hattori."

The throne creaked as Hirotada slumped back into it as his officers discussed their plans. Something was weighing heavily on his mind. He had lost one general many years ago at the start of his campaign and since that day he vowed to never lose another one. However, Mochikata had recently fallen to an Hattori ninja and this caused the Daimyo a great deal of pain. One of his generals would not be celebrating the upcoming victory with the rest of the clan's people. Hirotada cleared his throat, the other officer stopped talking.

"Fujiko-san, I would be most grateful if a small memorial service could be held in Mochikata-san's honour. His hard work and unfaltering loyalty will not go unnoticed, at a time like this men such as him are a rare commodity." The Daimyo had a pained expression on his face. He sighed and sat upright once again.

"This shows us that the Hattori are not to be underestimated. They are falling but are still capable of causing this clan pain if we do not grant them the necessary respect and caution.

Ieyasu-kun's time has now come. I have been preparing for this moment for some time and it has now arrived. He is to receive the best troops from the surrounding region, Mochimori and Okubo will surrender their samurai to Ieyasu; he is leading his army to the gates of Kyoto. There are musings about launching an assault on the Fortress' walls. This is madness, I have lost one general, I am not losing any more. Ieyasu will starve the Shogun out and then cut him down in a fight to the death in the field, may the best man win. If victorious Ieyasu is free to march into Kyoto itself and declare the Tokugawa as rulers. Kurimoto-san, do as you wish with the other armies. Hattori lands are ripe for the picking and it matters not who takes them.

Once our work is done, Fujiko-san a marriage would be most welcome and Ieyasu will escort Machiko as you have suggeted and I will head to Kyoto to take my rightful place upon it's throne. From there, much work is needed. Japan needs reuniting and all hostilites need to cease. People will soon see, that the Tokugawa's only wish, is to see the people of Japan living in peace and having the means to live a self sufficient life." For the first time today, a smile crossed the Daimyo's face.

"Men and women of this council, you have worked towards achieving what is soon to pass. I can only thank you all for your efforts. The Tokugawa people for generations to come will owe you all a great debt.

A stern look appeared on Kurimoto's face. "Great Daimyo, I mourn the loss of Mochikata and after what they did to him...You tell me to do as i wish with the other armies? Then i say this after what they did to Mochikata All of southern Japan will be covered in Hattori blood, I promise you that." Kurimoto stood up and raised his right hand high and said with an Ecstatic voice "NOW MY FELLOW OFFICERS I SAY, GLORY TO THE TOKUGAWA CLAN!!! MAY WE BE THE LIBERATORS OF JAPAN FOR TEN THOUSAND YEARS!!!

Motohisa slowly walked into the hall, the guard who had arranged the meeting was still panting and walking slowly ahead of Motohisa. Having arrived at the entrance to the hall, the guard entered first. Bowing to the Daimyo the man said “I have brought Takesun Motohisa and his urgent message. “. Having said this, the man left the room and Motohisa calmly entered.

Motohisa’s face was covered with bruises and a large scar went from his right ear through his check and down to near his neck. Despite this, Motohisa was clean and recently bathed. Upon entering the room, Motohisa bowed to all of the officers and the Daimyo. His eyes scanned around the room as he was bowing as his mind calculated the possibilities. Having finished bowing, Motohisa focused on looking at the Daimyo whilst he was speaking and calmly said “Greetings to all of the new faces I see here, only two of them do I recognise, Fujiko-Sama, and of course our wise honourable Daimyo. Once again my Daimyo you have indirectly saved my life and I give you great thanks for that. I’m sure you don’t care what has happened to me, although if you desire to know to gather better information or just out of sheer curiosity then I shall be more than happy to tell you, but it’s my message that is important. It’s a warning; quite a dire one. I have found information out from my interrogator that there are many traitor’s inside this castle and city, they call themselves Shadow Samurai.

They are stealthy, cruel and cunning but most of all deadly. These are not mere Ninja’s they are highly trained Samurai who infiltrate a target, then kill them from the inside without the need to sneak about. They possess advanced equipment, and I have seen the effectiveness of that equipment first hand when I was captured. Wise honourable Daimyo, we cannot allow them to do this. I know not why they are here but I do know this: normally these Shadow Samurai have just a few of their kind in each other the major cities, but they have gathered up in Mikawa. I do not know the exact number, but I suspect they would likely have enough to storm the castle before anyone could react and slaughter its inhabitants.

Shadow Samurai are hidden in several fashions, some serve as Samurai in the army, others are disguised as peasants, some are highly influential officials. They are experts at their trade, but if you hear of any rumours of them being in their thousands I can assure you they are wrong, men like this are too rare to be available in large quantities, although I cannot say how many there actually are. Neither do I know why they are here, it may however hint to some kind of attack.

The Hattori seem to know of it, perhaps the Hattori plan to attack while these Shadow Samurai cause havoc? As suspected, strong and brave as you are, the Tokugawa are winning this war. This would give the Hattori a motive to empty their treasury to hire these expensive and deadly killers. I can assure you however that the danger is real; very real. I have obtained this information from a very reliable source when they thought I had no chance of escape, of survival. I can say I proved them wrong, although with help from you, honourable Daimyo.

I do not know what we should do; I am too unfamiliar with the state of the clan to be of much help unless someone decides to tell me about what’s happened since my disappearance. It must have been years ago, although when you’re in a cell you lose track of time. I will however offer to help in whatever way I can and I ask all of you here to keep only the men you trust most near you. Increase patrols in the city, but do it discreetly so they don’t realise we know. I am hoping information any of you possess might hint towards the time, motive and how they will do it. Combined with the knowledge I have gathered about them we should hopefully be able to work things out together. We must act quickly, the safety of the Capital and our wise Daimyo is our highest priority so I beseech you to hear my message and act upon it”

Motohisa’s voice had grown more serious and grimmer as he spoke, his face making a ridged and stern expression. Every time he mentioned his time as a captive he shivered slightly and a small tint of fear could be hear in his voice. Having finished speaking, Motohisa waited from a response from the others, hoping they would heed his desperate plea to protect themselves and hoping they would have information to protect themselves better. Hope was all he had left.

((Note: I am allowed to post in here I think if I read the post Damo did in the Sake Den correctly))
