The master and apprentice walked side by side, down the dark alley way of the streets. As usual the Master was dressed in his black robe while Raion in his Red one. "There is nothing at Kaga. The land has been stripped clear as if the gods themselves cleaned it. There is near no evidence of the Tatami Master," Raion quietly hushed. The Master continued his slow walk over, pondering the news as if it were a newborn baby. This was a delicate time, one could forever change things for the worst with the simplest mistake or blunder. The master came to a halt, whistled for his horse, who rushed over next to him. He gripped the side of the horse and walked with it. "Something has happened Raion. Something beyond comprehension. It is not clear yet, but everyone in this region can feel its ripple. The Tatami Master holds the key too true domination, power, wealth, and honor. But if it fell into the wrong hands everything I HAVE WORKED FOR IS DONE!" The Master yelled. He was growing impatient, he was indeed a very eager man. "If your plans ARE SO GREAT, then why wont you tell me!" Raion responded. "In time Raion you will no. I have served the Tokugawa for many years now, and IT IS TIME TO STRIKE BACK! Soon Raion, soon we shall strike back. The Tatami Master is the last piece to the puzzle! I will succed, I will triumpth, I am the ONE EYED GENERAL! I AM ISAMU MASAO, so...let my enemies tremble at my feet. Soon Raion, all will become clear..." |

Yusei had once again spent the whole day resting and focusing on his orders. He went out to the town to keep an eye out for Icorisu or Chikage and contat Kiyomasa, who was told to meet him back at his house. Returning to his house, Yusei saw no visible sign of Kiyomasa. he walked over near the side of his house, and was shocked to find Kiyomasa on the ground in a puddle of blood. Yusei bent down to survey the injuries, but Kiyomasa grabbed his arm and said faintly, "He's here to see you, be careful my lord, I have failed to protect you..." Yusei rose up and walked into his house. Kiyomasa, to the end you were a pawn, but you served me well... His thoughts were interrupted by clapping coming from his chambers. Yusei ran in, startled to find a middle-aged man sitting on the floor with a shogi set in front of him. "Nagao Yusei, how nice of you to finally return home. I'm sure your dead friend passed the message," the man said mockingly. "Yes, and who are you?" Yusei pulled out his sword in defensive position. "No need for that, just Shogi. Quite the complex and brilliant ultimate plan you have here, I am sure Fujiko will love to hear about it. Although, you were right, you aren't planning to kill the Daimyo. But that doesn't matter, all that matters to you is for Fujiko to find out." Yusei thrust his sword at the man, who swiftly evaded and lit a torch. "Yusei, haven't you learned never to attack a stranger, especially one who can set your house aflame in an instant. I'm invulnerable, the only way out is shogi." Yusei sat down in ceremonial position,"Very well, I accept your challenge, just know that there are agents watching my every move." The man laughed and replied,"You mean those poor excuses for spies, they were dispatched of before your friend. As far as we know, this is totally blind to those fools. Be warned, I haven't played shogi at all. It will be my first game." What is his plan... Yusei and the stranger played out their shogi game, and as Yusei finally lost, he cried out,"HOW DID YOU BEAT ME, IT IS AS IF YOU NEW MY EVERY MOVE!" "That's right Yusei, you have met your match, I can analyze and predict your movements if I focus long enough. Now that you've lost I get my side of the deal. You now have to let me tell Fujiko all about your ultimate plan." Yusei was still frozen in shock, he had never lost a single game of shogi. He exclaimed,"NO, for her personal safety she must not know!" Just as the stranger rose to leave, Yusei threw one of his oriental shuriken at the stranger. Attempting to dodge the stranger dropped the torch and rolled to the side shouting,"Ha, now you will burn and die, I cannot lose." Yusei began maniacally laughing,"You think I didn't expect that, I new the whole time how I would win. You were so focused on defeating me in shogi, that you didn't notice me place the shuriken within my pocket. Believing you had won you let your guard down, I kept my thoughts on the shogi game to keep you focused on a false situation. Now you will burn with this back up house. That's right the whole house was a makeshift to hide my true plans and information. You have the right plan though, although you won't be leaving here alive." As the house was set aflame, Yusei walked out unscathed. What happened to the stranger was a mystery. In the shadows of the trees stood Chikage's ninja watching Yusei leave the burning house. |

“At last the wheels have begun to turn.” Far to the West two monstrous leviathans twisted of metal and flesh, and forged in the seemingly unending fires of conflict, stood poised, waiting for the moment at which the order comes down for their gargantuan limbs to swing into action and bear down upon their enemies of the clan. The hungering eyes of the Tokugawa war machine fixed firmly over the border at the Hattori that they had once known as allies. The hands on the clock had stopped the moment that a frenzied gasp of air escaped the first messenger carrying the monumental burden of spreading the word that had plagued the minds of an entire nation; ‘war’. The lone figure of Chikage kneeled contemplative upon the castle rooftop, overlooking the grounds; sprawled out before her was the centre of power of the Tokugawa, the very beating heart that she had once attempting to rip out, yet whose blood now flowed through her own veins. Her own heartbeat had slowed to a crawl; the rain in the night which yet chilled her to the core seemed petty in comparison to the ice which ran down her spine. “It’s time.” Time; the very time which had eluded her since her birth, of which she had been so forcefully deprived, was precisely what she intended to take back, to rip from the torso of the phantoms of her past; by her own hands to ensure that it was done. Her hands, they were numb and heavy from the cold; she sank her teeth into the left and allowed the trickle of blood that formed to run down her palm. Warm, still so warm; she clenched her first and clung to each desperate droplet as it s warmth, as its life, ebbed away in her cold, cold hands. Hands that had taken a life; hands that had taken many lives, it was all the same, each one a stepping stone that had brought her to this point. A jagged blade of lightning tore away at the darkness; the rain fell ever heavier, it began to pool on the ground, the collective sorrow of widows without number about to me made when the steel titans clash. Another flash, briefly receding the night, did nothing to dispel the images conjured within her mind. The old master, his women, his children, his servants, scattered at her feet, butchered; crimson vitae running through the floorboards, staining the ground with her accomplishment; art. “Soon.” The behemoths would clash, the fallen would pave the way to what once she had thought to be home, and she would take the debt was owed her in pain and in blood; glorious. She leapt from her perch to the streets below, the water betraying her movements to those nearby. Two figures approached in hurried voices, Tokugawa guards lifting their lanterns in a vain attempt to illuminate the figure of the Shinobi Elder before them, drenched from head to toe, her raven hair draped her head, lips blue, skin ghoulishly pale. “My lady, it is you.” The guard seemed taken aback; with tensions boiled as they were he had obviously expected some enemy of the clan, not to see an officer in the very trappings of death. “Do you require aid, my lady? You appear unwell!” He attempted to move closer but she stepped back hurriedly. “I am... fine.” Her voice was soft, all but drowned out by the thundering deluge. The guards looked to one another, confused, as she turned around with a start and stalked off into the night in the direction of the temple. Edited by KodKod, 07/10/2011 - 12:36 am.

Matoki approached the castle's magnificant walls with a gleam in his eye. The weather was lovely today. Obviously a sign sent by the gods, Matoki thought. This meant only good things could come from the meeting. "Halt!" Shouted one of the castle guards. "Yeah yeah yeah, I've heard all of this from the town guard yesterday," Matoki silenced the man and handed him his scroll. "Ahh, Lord Matoki. We have been expecting you. Your blade, my lord." Matoki took his katana out of his belt and handed it to the guard. "This way, my lord. Our daimyo is going to meet you in the back. He has much to discuss with you regarding the Tatami Master." Matoki followed the man, being lead to an empty area somewhere behind the castle. "Here, my lord. The damiyo is waiting for you up that path. I would now take my leave." The guard walked away, back towards the castle gates. Matoki continued down the path, expecting the Damyio of the Tokogawa. But there was nobody there. Looking around, he saw nothing. He could hear the silence around him. It all happened so fast, and his reflexes took the better of him as he heard a whistle in the wind behind him. Ejecting his elbow into the man's stomach, he gripped the assassin's head in his right arm and used his left to grab his blade. He slit his throat with one swift movement and grabbed the blade in fighting position. The assassin's body clunked to the ground as the second assassin charged at him. The parry stung his ears and echoed in the peacefull silence. Blood sprayed all over his hands. The second parry forced Matoki off-balance for a split second. He rolled over on the ground. He could feel the grass embracing his armorless skin. The assassin raised his arms up, gripping the blade with both hands, and thrust it downward towards Matoki on the ground. Matoki rolled over and forced the assassin off of his feet before he could complete his strike. Using the confusion of the fall to his advantage, he raised the first assassin's dagger and stabbed the second assassin repeatedly until he was dead. Gasping for breath, Matoki got to his feet and wiped some blood off of his face with the sleeve of his commoner's shirt. The thought of the asassination attempt so early worried him. Someone knew of my plans, he thought. Someone knows my plans and is attempting to stop me from carrying them out. Finally gathering his breath, he ran down the path towards the front of the castle where the guard had led him into the trap. If he could find that guard and find out what he knows, he could trace it back to whoever ordered the assassination attempt. Running with all the speed he could gather, he finally reached the front of the castle. Guards he didn't recognise were posted. One of them took his presence as a threat and raised his Katana suspiciusly. "Put the blade down and state your buisness here! Commonfolk aren't allowed entry into the castle!" "You put your blade down! One of your men just tried to have me killed! I had a scheduled meeting with the Daimyo and they led me into the ambush!" "I'll give you one more warning, peasent. Drop the blade and get the hell out of here, or I will have to kill you. Understand?" At that, the surrounding guards began to draw their Katanas. "If you don't believe me look down that path in the back of the castle! You'll find the bodies of both of the assassins that just tried to kill me. A man dressed in Castle Guard uniform led me there! That means that either one of your guard is working agaist you or someone is walking around claiming to be a guard of the castle. One of the guards snorted with laughter. The captain walked forward and pointed his katana at Matoki's head. "Drop your weapons and leave the castle now, or I will have no choice but to slaughter you where you stand. I'll count to 5." Understanding the hopelessness of his situation, he dropped the weapon and walked angrily back towards the Sake Den he had been staying at. Someone had replaced a guard of the castle with an imposter and set him up for an ambush. Clearly this person knew of his plans and was taking every necessary action to stop them, even if that meant murder. For now, Matoki must proceed with caution. He had very busy few seasons coming up. |

Yusei had started his long trek home to his real house. For a whole two years he had left it to hide its true owner, now he returns his last resort. As Yusei walked he thought about the current situation of Fujiko and Icorisu. My contact with Icorisu is lost, has he been outwitted by Fujiko so early. Nonetheless he was just another tool to be used and thrown away. Fujiko seems off now, she seems a bit troubled, if Icorisu was found out then I can see why. He was her most trusted advisor, and in the end I have taken the most vital piece in the game. With Icorisu gone Yusei had accomplished his goal, his plan began coming together pefectly. He finally reached his destination and walked into his grand house. Suddenly, he began to hear that same clapping that came from his old house the last time he was there. "YOU!!!!!!" Yusei yelled running into his main room. Once again the man sat there clapping, a dumb grin on his face. "Hello, Yusei. How have you been? It has been a while since you blew up your house hasn't it?" The man said cooly. "Ye-----" The man held out his hand before Yusei could finish,"No need Yusei, I already know what you would say." "How are-----" Once again the man extended his hand saying,"How am I alive? Well, that is simple, I simply avoided the blast and make it look like I was dead. You are too simple, too typical, Yusei." He took out a wooden Shogi set and set it down. "I think we must have a rematch from that last game, right Yusei. Same stakes as last time, I win, I tell Fujiko." "Once again, she cannot know of my plan's, if she knows then it will not work. It is best that she hates and despises me at the moment." The man began setting up the board,"Same excuse as always, how do you think you can protect your plan this time Yusei, I have you completely off guard, no one can disturb us because they know nothing of this location. Now play like your life is at stake Yusei, pray that you can win." Damn it, he has me this time, at the worst of time, he must always interrupt me, Fujiko cannot know, she is too important. Yusei sat down and the two began playing, the man talked,"You seem to care for Fujiko a lot, considering she is always the excuse. It's always your cover up move, I can guarantee it." "I care for her enough to keep her out of this." "Ahh the response I thought you would say, Yusei you are too typical." Once again Yusei had lost, he watched in despair as his last piece was taken by the stranger. Yusei screamed as the man chucked the shogi set out of the way and stood up. "I am Uesugi Masakage, brother of Uesugi Kenshin, and this is ultimate revenge. You let Kenshin, my brother die, you let me die too. I didn't die, I simply disappeared. Had you not stayed with Kenshin, the Uesugi could've ruled, the Tokugawa would be dead. Kenshin's plan is foolish, it will never work. The best way to unite the people is through ultimate fear, the fear of death. People of this land will be united in fear and left in despair. No wars, no lies, no peace, just life, constant and never changing." "No controlling the people through fear is not life at all. To be ruled by fear is to die, we are who we are because we are humans, we have emotions you cannot change that. It is through our hearts that love and unity can come, through suffering we are united in the common goal to seek happiness, that is the principle of my plan, that which you will never understand." The man laughed and kicked Yusei to the ground, he then pulled out a blade and held it over Yusei's good eye. "You are a fool, naive, your plan will not work!" As he began to thrust the blade at Yusei's eye, Yusei screamed,"Why won't you die!" He quickly veered his head to the right, changing the landing of the blade to Yusei's already wounded eye. He screamed as his eye was stabbed again, blood was dripping out of his eye and mouth. He sat there on the ground, too shocked to move again. Yusei watched as the man walked out of his house and began heading towards the temple. Yusei sat up, his shock had since left him, and began running towards the temple, still slightly losing blood. He could see the man almost at the door to the temple. He grinned. Just then a man jumped off of a nearby building and charged at the man, the two clashed and Uesugi Masakage parried and killed the metsuke. Another one came out of the shadows and attacked Masakage as well. Once again the man parried and killed him. Finally, a large samurai came charging at Masakage. The samurai lunged to grab Masakage on the shoulder, but Masakage anticipated his movements and stabbed the samurai in the chest. As the bloody samurai continued to grapple Uesugi Masakage, the sword was fully through his body. The samurai spoke,"Vic-ctory, m-my lo..." The samurai died standing up, his grip still on Masakage. Yusei calmly walked over seeing Uesugi Masakage held by the dead samurai. He began laughing maniacally as Masakage stood there gasping. "Muahahahaha, you are a fool Masakage, did you really believe you had won. I knew you could anticipate movements, a great tactic for achieving a strategic goal, but unluckily for you I planned way ahead. I had focused so hard on the shogi game and our confrontation about my plan you couldn't read my true thoughts. I had set this ambush here to trap you, not kill you. You see, I expected you to anticipate getting killed, not captured. My point is made Masakage, a life without change is not life. You are a dead man waiting to die, you must die now." "And how sad that you were only a few steps from the temple, oh Masakage, you are just so far away from me." Uesugi Masakage, with the last of his strength, began moving towards the temple, the dead samurai being dragged in front of him as he walked. He collapsed in front of the temple yellling,"Yusei, you..." The man couldn't say too much, he died screaming,"FUJIKO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" |

Alerted by the ruckus Fujiko came outside the front door and was shocked at the scene before her. Four dead men lay in the temple courtyard and amidst them the Sword Master giggling like a lunatic. She reasoned that it must have been one of the dead who had tried to call out for her. Her face constricted in uncharacteristic anger. "Yusei!!! What have you done this time, you madman?" In a flash eight of her ronin rushed past her and surrounded the Sword Master, katanas drawn. He didn't make a move, didn't resist yet. It looked like he had been hurt, but Fujiko couldn't care less. She stormed toward the man. "This is holy ground," she said, her fists still shaking in anger. "I demand an explanation why you affront the gods by spilling blood here and I'm done putting up with your bulls**t! Give me one good reason why I shouldn't order my men to throw you into the daimyo's dungeon right now!" |

Yusei, surrounded by Fujiko's continued his laughing for a bit, once he stopped, he looked at Fujiko. "Fujiko, didn't Icorisu tell you? This man here..." He stopped to point out the man he was referring to. "He is Uesugi Masakage, Kenshin's brother. You know my relations to Kenshin very well, as I was his bodyguard. He believes that I have betrayed and let Kenshin die. So he appears at my house the first time, challenging me to shogi on the stakes that he tells you what my plan is, but telling you my plan puts you in a danger I don't want you to be put in. Apparently this man can analyze and predict movements, therefore I was defeated easily. However, I managed to catch him off guard and set my fake house on fire, hoping to kill him and escape. That is when Icorisu found out what I had said at that confrontation and started to believe in me." "You must understand Fujiko, everything I have done outside of the Hall has been for the protection of the officers and the Daimyo. Now for the rest of the story. This time he came to my real house and challenged me to shogi again with the same stakes. He won and then held a blade over my other eye, he wanted to blind me so that he was assured a win. I sacrificed my left eye again so that I kept my vision and could beat him. I planned an ambush at the temple with Metsuke and a samurai. He was expecting me to want to kill him, but instead I planned to capture him sacrificing the samurai to hold him in place. His last act was yelling for you." "Now before you judge me, this man is Uesugi, an enemy, and a criminal nonetheless. This man has killed multiple people just to confront me, now I ask that you consider this. I am sorry for defiling this ground, but it had to be done." |

"That's a fascinating story, you lunatic," Fujiko said. "Pity that the only man who could collaborate it lies dead at your feet." Fujiko sighed, putting her hand over her eyes. "He thought you would kill him, so you captured him. And instead of finding out his contacts you kill him. So in the end you did exactly what he thought you would do, didn't you?" Fujiko made another step forward and grabbed the Sword Master by the collar. "Listen to me and listen well," she said in a deadly whisper. "I'm done putting up with your crap. You're an idiot. You've commited crimes and the only thing keeping you out of prison is your officer status. You've cost me an advisor. You're not protecting any of us by keeping us in the dark. If you truly cared about the Tokugawa, you would tell the council what you're up to." "But you've invaded my home for the last time. This is your last chance. You're gonna tell me everything. You're gonna spill your guts about that idiotic plot of yours. Or else..." "Or else what?" Yusei asked with his trademark idiotic grin. "Look around you. There's eight samurai with swords pointed at your throat. Oh, people will ask and I'm gonna tell them that you attacked the temple with those four goons. A pity that my guards had to kill the Sword Master himself in self-defense, isn't it? I'll make this simple for you. For the first time in your miserable life you're gonna be straight with me. Here's your choice. Talk or die." |

Dakeu ran across the market place with great speed, he knew he had attracted attention at the cells and he knew that he would be followed soon. He barged past people and knocked others flying. He could hear a voice in his head, he tryed to listen to it but a part of him didn't. "DAKEU!" Yelled the voice, "You must, now is the time, before he is alerted!" Running fast and with great agility he hastily ran through the back allys, pulling of his fake wig. He took off his clothes and under neath was a black suit, with a belt which had two knives hanging from it. He aproached the Daimyos halls, it was heavily guarded as the Daimyo was in side. He took two the shadows, for night fall had just began and he waited untill most of the guards had moved inside. Now there was just Dakeu and five guards. He knew that he would have to take them out quietly and quickly so not to attract any attention. He moved behind a small bush and drew out his small knife. He crept behind the first guard and picked up a small stone. Then he throw the stone at the guards foot. Suddenly the guard turned around and saw a black foot slip behind a bush, he walked slowly, then lunged behind the bush but found nothink. Then with a fud the soilder fell to the ground with a slit throat. He carried on this tactic till there was the last two and he watched to see the coast was clear then rolled out in fornt of them and throw his two daggers! One hit a soilder in the neck and he fell with out a sound. Unfortunently the other was hit on the stomarch and fell to the ground in a crying pain. Dakeu could here the guards moving and alerted inside, so Dakeu slipped in while he still could. "Things were to easy anyway." Said Dakeu as he crept in to the huge mansion. Stage one was complete but there was no going back. |

Dakeu heard the sound of hurried footsteps from behind him and he quickly headed towards the nearest door and opened it praying that no-one was inside. It was a large empty room, it appeared to be a storage area, he closed it behind him and waited listening for the right moment to reappear. Six guards rushed towards the hall, five of them stood outside whilst another ran inside. The Daimyo was alone flickiing through maps and charts. He raised his head and looked at the source of the disturbance. "My Lord, your presence is required at the temple immediately. I haven't got time to explain, I will talk on the way." The guard panted. Hirotada didn't question the guard. He stood up and quickly followed him out of the hall. The seven men made their way back down the corridor towards the main entrance of the castle leaving the hall unoccupied. Dakeu sensing that the commotion had passed re-emerged from the storage room and continued down the corridor towards the hall. "Strange," he thought as he neared the main doors. "Where are the guards?" As he reached the doors he lifted his head to the heavens. After a brief moment he burst inside, he had to be quick, he would take down the Daimyo by any means necessary. He knew he would probably die after that with officers and guards overwhelming him but that didn't matter, his objective would be complete. As he got inside the hall, his stomach lurched, the hall was empty. "DAMMIT!" Dakeu cried. Had his only chance to kill the Tokugawa Daimyo passed him by? .............................................................................. Hirotada ran to the entrance to the temple grounds. As he rounded the corner he was met with the sight of the Head Priestess holding onto the Kensei. The scene was of pure carnage, blood and bodies strewn across the Courtyard. "WHAT IS GOING ON HERE!? Hirotada cried in utter disbelief. "Someone better explain to me what this is all about and make it quick." He stood glaring at both his officers awaiting one of them to enlighten him. "And it better be good because I do not see how officers behaving like this can go unpunished!" Edited by damo2986, 09/10/2011 - 09:04 am.

Fujiko's head turned in irritation at the interruption. Then she realized that the daimyo himself had been alerted to the situation. Too bad. She had wanted to spend a little more time with Yusei to make him fess up. "I'll tell you what's going on," she said unceremoniously shoving the Kensei aside. "That lunatic has decided to make the sacred place of the gods his personal battleground." "Don't tell me that you haven't seen the complacent grin on his face every time he's been admonished in the council, my lord. That man is sick. He claims that everything he's doing is for our safety, that he has some grande master plan. Yet his actions have enabled a prisoner to escape from your dungeon and now he's put four corpses on my doorstep. Whatever he claims his intentions may be, you and I both know that Nagao Yusei has never been honest with either of us. His mad schemes put all of us in danger. Just ask your son Ieyasu. The look he directed at him when he was in charge was one of loathing." Fujiko walked toward the daimyo with a look of grim determination on her face. The guards at his side steadied their arms and then involuntarily took a step back from the scowl on her face that matched the daimyo's own. "Let me tell you what is happening here. You are going to make a decision, because I'm done with this. I will not sit on the same council as that lunatic any longer and watch him drive our souldiers and citizens into madness and death. One of us has to go. Choose, lord Hirotada! It's either him or me." |

Hirotada's face remained stern. He listened to what Fujiko had to say and then he turned his gaze to Yusei. "Yusei, you're behaviour has been nothing short of disgraceful. Defiling holy grounds is merely the tip of what is a very large iceberg. Over these past few months you have spent more time plotting, scheming and commiting acts of treachery then you have focussing on what I appointed you to do. Your orders have been sketchy at best and at a time of great importance rather then planning for the safety of my son and generals against the Hattori, you decided to butcher people in the temple. It appears to me that you have abused your position as an officer for your own gains and think yourself above others. This is totally unacceptable. At a time when I am already missing a Tatami Master, rather then assisting other officers in trying to plug the gap by being more co-operative, you have made matters more difficult." Hirotada straigtened up and walked towards the Kensei at a measured pace until he was a foot away. "The writing is on the wall, speak now, your future depends on it. Explain yourself Yusei and just remember who you are talking to here. You are not talking to a priest, you are not talking to a peasant who you think you can manipulate or fool. You are talking to a man who can have your head removed from your shoulders in an instant so choose your words wisely. Explain to me why I shouldn't remove you from your position and make an example of you? Explain what it is that you have been up to whilst the rest of us have been working to move our clan forward. We are all waiting.... We have been waiting for too long and my patience with you has run out." Edited by damo2986, 09/10/2011 - 09:52 am.
