Rat Mage Faction: Ashi'ki Clans, Mage Clan Race: Ashi'Ki Starting Level/Experience Rate: three/accelerated Description: The most common type of mage in Ashi'Ki society, Rat Mages can even be found outside the Mage Clan. As their name suggests, they specialise in rat-based spells. Unique Trait: Rat Mana, Rat Mages can draw magical energy from rats and ratkin. The more allied Ashi'Ki, rats, and rat-like creatures fighting with the Rat Mage, the more powerful his or her spells become. Skills: Lvl 3 - Combat, Call of the Rat, Rat Summoning Lvl 4 - Sight of the Rat Lvl 5 - Speed of the Rat Lvl 6 - Plague of the Rat, Razortooth Rat Summoning Lvl 7 - Squeaking of the Rat, Bite of the Rat Lvl 8 - None Lvl 9 - Rateleport, Wolfrat Summoning Lvl 10 - Command Lvl 11 - Agile Warfare Lvl 12 - Control of the Rat, Trollrat Summoning Lvl 13 - Master Summoner, Will of the Rat Lvl 14 - None Lvl 15 - Wererat Curse Combat - Rat Mages generally prefer not to fight in a direct manner, but they can't always avoid it. This skill increases the character's ability to fight with both melee and ranged weapons, the higher the rank it is, the better the character is in a straight-up fight. Call of the Rat - While summoning is a common path among Rat Mages, they can also let out a piercing squeak, which calls nearby rats forth from their burrows to aid him or her. Casting this spell does not require any magical words or reagents, but cannot be cast if the character is unable to speak. The spell attempts to persuade nearby rats to aid the character in combat, higher ranks increase the range and likelyhood of a given rat to answer the call. Note this spell does nothing if there aren't any nearby rats! Rat Summoning - Rat Mages are often adept at magically conjuring rats out of raw magic to aid them, though such summoned rats fade away after a few minutes, they can be conjured anywhere, and in great numbers, provided the Rat Mage can cast the spell. Casting this spell requires a few seconds of magical chanting, and requires an actual rat to be in the caster's hand. Once cast, the spell creates dozens to hundreds of rats that appear around the caster and follow his or her commands. Higher ranks increase the number of rats summoned and how long they last. Sight of the Rat - Being able to sense what a nearby rat senses can be exceedingly useful for scouting. Casting this spell requires around ten seconds of magical chanting, and requires a real or summoned rat or rat-like creature to be near the caster. Once cast, the caster begins to sense what the rat does instead of his or her own senses, and is able to direct the rat somewhat, the caster can end the spell at any time, and injury to the caster will end it immediately. Higher ranks allow the spell to be cast over longer distances, and allows it to affect greater rat-kin, such as wolf-rats, troll-rats, or at the higher levels, Ashi'Ki. Speed of the Rat - Rats are exceptionally fast and agile when they need to be, and many Rat Mages can bestow such speed on themselves for a few precious moments. Casting this spell requires the caster remain still for a few seconds while reciting magical words, and if being cast on another, requires both individuals to remain still and for the Rat-Mage to be within a few meters of the target. Once cast, whoever was targeted becomes substantially faster and more agile for a few seconds. Higher ranks increase the duration but not the speed boost. Note this spell doesn't increase the individuals reaction times, just their ability to move (this has resulted in far too many Ashi'Ki deaths by running into walls while under the effect of this spell). Plague of the Rat - Rats often spread disease to other creatures, something a Rat Mage can tap into to cause temporary symptoms in enemies. Casting this spell requires five to seven seconds of magical chanting. Once cast, any enemies physically touched by the caster or any of the caster's summons while the spell was being cast experience instantaneous symptoms of disease that fade away over a few minutes. Higher ranks cause progressively worse and more unpleasent symptoms, some of which are best not described. Note this spell will not kill a healthy individual on it's own. Razortooth Rat Summoning - Summons don't need to be creatures that normally exist in the world, as Rat Mages have come to learn. Casting this spell requires several seconds of magical speech, and for the caster to have already summoned normal rats. Once cast, a portion of the normal rats the caster has already summoned bulge and mutate into Razortooth Rats, beasts roughly three times the size of a normal rat with an impressive bite force. Higher ranks increase the percentage of normal summoned rats turned into Razortooth Rats. Squeaking of the Rat - Many mages, including Ashi'Ki ones, must concentrate for at least a few seconds for many of their spells, by filling their minds with the etherial squeaking of rats, concentration becomes much more difficult. This spell does not have a casting time or reagent, but requires a constant chanting by the caster to remain in effect (when the caster stops chanting, the spell ends). The spell affects all enemy mages that can hear the caster's chanting. Higher ranks increase the squeaking to a high-pitched wail within the enemies' head, and causes it to spread to even non-mages. Bite of the Rat - Rat Mages aren't generally known for direct attacks, but it is within their art to conjure a ghastly visage of a rat's skull that flies towards the enemy. Casting this spell requires a few seconds of chanting, and for the caster to be holding the skull of a rat. Once cast, the magical skull shoots towards the chosen target, biting them and causing much more pain then the bite size would indicate. Higher ranks increase the pain caused and the range the skull can reach. Note the actual damage caused by the bite is minimal. Rateleport - Countless times a Rat Mage has been corned by opponents, only to reappear at another location. This spell requires the caster remain still and a cast time based on how far the caster wishes to travel, this cast time increases dramatically if the Rat Mage wishes to travel through something they could not normally pass through. Once cast, the caster dissapears in a puff of fur and reappears a distance away as indicated by the spell. Higher ranks decrease the casting time. Note this ability is limited, it takes at least several seconds to travel only a few meters, and any significant distance requires several hours of chanting and is incredibly draining. Wolfrat Summoning - Many wolf-like and rat-like monstrosities were summoned before this spell was perfected. This spell requires the caster chant for several seconds and already have summoned normal rats. Once cast, a portion of the rats grow and mutate, turning into creatures resembling a wolf body with a rat's head and tail. Higher ranks increase the percentage or normal summoned rats turned into Wolfrats. Command - Rat Mages are well-regarded in Ashi'Ki society, and positions of power aren't a surprise. This skill gives the character troops under their command. Note you must communicate with an admin well before you wish to learn this skill, as it requires planning and certain RPing to come about. Higher ranks grant the character promotions, increasing the number of troops they command. Agile Warfare - Ashi'Ki in general prefer speed over strength or endurance. This skill increases the character's ability to fight in melee with fast movements and agility. Higher ranks increase dexterity and speed. Control of the Rat - Unlike Sight of the Rat, which only allows basic directions to be given that the target may or may not obey, this spell allows a Rat Mage to take direct control of a rat, a summon, or even an Ashi'Ki. This spell requires half a minute of casting, and that that target remain in contact with the caster the entire time the spell is being cast. Once cast, the caster gains complete control over the target for a period of several minutes. Higher ranks increase the duration. Note the target must be willing, enemies will fight the control and prevent the spell from being cast. Trollrat Summoning - Trolls do not live in or near Undar'Hi, which brings up the question of how this spell came about. This spell requires several seconds of cast time, and that the caster have already summoned normal rats. Once cast, one of the summoned rats will bulge and twist into the hideous shape of a Trollrat, a creature that can only be described as an abomination against normal life, and that is a potent foe in combat. Higher ranks increase the size and strength of the summoned Trollrat. Note you will need to read Trolls in the "Creatures of Fastis" thread to get an idea of what this spell summons. Master Summoner - Rat Mages that have chosen to dedicate their knowlege to summoning often gain a talent for it above other spells. This skill increases the efficiency at which the character casts all summoning spells, reducing the amount of energy they use and increasing the amount of times they can cast summon spells before collapsing from exaustion. Higher ranks reduce energy cost for all summon spells. Will of the Rat - Some Rat Mages claim to feel a force at their backs, providing aid to their spells. This skill increases the effect of all "...of the Rat" spells, increasing the length at which they last and reducing the time needed to cast them. Higher ranks increase this effect for all "...of the Rat" spells. Wererat Curse - Ultimate Skill. Though there is no known evidence to support it, Ashi'Ki legend tells of the Wererat Curse, which transforms normal Humans or Dwarves into rabid half-rat variations of themselves at night. Has only one rank, after spending a skill point on this spell, a character will need to undergo special RP circumstances before they can use it. Tips: -Have a plan for your rat mage, are you going to go for summoning, or "of the Rat" spells? Picking one path lets you get the most out of Master Summoner or Will of the Rat. -Your character should probably have a pet rat or know the Call of the Rat spell if they want to use summon spells. -Plague of the Rat is a useful spell even if you are a summoner, and makes a few ranks in Rat Summoning worth-while even for someone going after Will of the Rat. -A few ranks in combat or agile warfare are probably a good idea, but don't overdo it, a Rat Mage will never be as good in combat as classes specialised around it. -Just because Wererat Curse is the ultimate skill doesn't mean your character won't be just as powerful without it.
