Lore drives the game. It's the story behind the story, the 'why' and 'how' just as much as the 'what'. It's the hidden agendas, it's the enemies moving about, it's where it all comes from. In this topic, we can state our own homebrewed Lore that can be used by someone else, at any point in their campaign, to enrich it. Whether it's lore of a race, or a planet, whether it's an adventure or simply a few hooks, feel free to post it here. |

Dragonborn Breeds Dragonborn were engineered by the Syrne to combat the Modron threat. However, not every soldier is, nor should they be, identical. Even if there were Elves and Gnomes and Squats and Orks to fill various positions in the army, they themselves were also split into groups. Similarly for the Dragonblooded. The Syrne divided the Dragonblooded according to their Breed. Each Breed is more like a Clan that can span the entire Wheel, each with several identifying marks, both external, such as scale color or horn position, and internal, the way they react to things. And that was precisely what the Syrne had intended. A brilliant strategist might not be a good tactician. A great soldier might just not be a good assassin. To easily discern and split them into groups that best befitted not just their appearence, but also their very nature, the Syrne gave Dragonborn discerning characteristics. While coming from a specific Breed does not force one to act specifically how their Breed is meant to act. However, they will be expected to act in such a way and might be looked up for help, directions or even to single-handedly perform the job in question. For example, the Sha'hashyik Breed is a large clan that created 'strategists'. While that did not mean Sha'hashyik Dragonborn are always great strategists, they are taught several books on strategy and they are taught to value it over brute force. Therefore, even if they are simple warriors, with no great aptitude for theoretical arts, they at the very least would have heard something about well-known strategies. That does not necessarily make all Sha'hashyik master strategists, or even always infallible, but other Dragonborn would very likely at least consider a Sha'hashyik's opinion on a specific strategic approach. Additionally, knowledge of strategic maneuvring does not mean they are good in smaller unit tactics. Essentially, each Dragonborn's Breed (and they all belong to one) does not make them good at something, but it does give them a bit of background about it. In the case of a Dragonborn coming from two Breeds, as inter-marriage is often considered a way to strengthen descendants, by combining in them as many 'advantages' of each Breed as possible, the strongest Breed will be the one they adhere to. Even if one might come from the Sha'hashyik Breed and the Ras'haaak breed, a 'strategy-focused' and a 'assassination-focused' breed, if they lack the external signs of the Ras'haaak Breed, they would only be considered, and raised as, Sha'hashyik. |
