Nephilim Replace the following: Demonic Tutor with Pariah Gene Unholy Might with Ineffable Might Feeding with Souldrain Daemonic with Black Blood (cosmetic) Scorn Earth with Tesseract Heart Not of this World with Phaeron Transcendant (cosmetic) Black Miracle with Strange Aeon (cosmetic) Pariah Gene: You cannot gain ranks in any magic school, and the TN of any spell that includes you as a target is increased by 3 times your Arcanoi. If you would be affected by Psychic Phenomena, treat the effect applied to you as if the d100 roll had a penalty equal to 10 times your Arcanoi. Ineffable Might: By spending 1 Essence, you can add your Arcanoi rank in rolled dice to the damage roll of an attack. Souldrain: A Nephilim can cast Dispel using Arcanoi + Composure instead of the normal magic test. For 1 Essence, she can attempt to dispel an ongoing magical effect. You can only attempt to dispel each ongoing magical effect once per scene. When you successfully counter a spell or dispel an effect, you convert 1 point of Resonance back into Essence, plus 1 more for each raise you got on the magic test. Tesseract Heart: You no longer need to eat, sleep, or breathe, and are immune to poisons, diseases, most environmental hazards, bleeding, and stunning. If you don't already have an artifact bionic heart, you gain the benefits of a Necrodermis heart. Strange Aeon: For a Nephilim at this level of power, even death must die. Unless a thorough disassembly of the Nephilim's multi-dimensional heart is performed (and the Nephilim can burn Hero Points to foil such an attempt), the Nephilim simply rises again later, spending one week for every point of Resonance they have in a restorative stasis before simply standing back up and going about their business as if nothing happened.
Slayer Shard The C'tan are said to be the origin of all mortals' fear of death; a terrible visage whose scythe was genocide, and whose image remains burned into the minds of mortals to this day. Any creature that is reduced to 5 critical damage by your attacks is killed unless they burn a Hero Point, even if they would normally not be in danger of death (for example, using R damage on a Vampire). Whenever you torment, toy with, or otherwise unnecessarily drag out the death of a creature at your mercy (or convince someone else to do so), you may convert a point of Resonance back into Essence. Malefactor Shard The C'tan are said to be the ultimate origin of all technology, and its dominus. Gain the Binary Chatter and Mechadendrite Use feats. Whenever you convince someone to relinquish or otherwise give you sole responsibility of an item of technological nature (including damaged Prometheans) for any purpose, you may convert a point of Resonance back into Essence. Defiler Shard The C'tan were powerful, and they could very well have changed the face of the Wheel... into a collection of tomb-worlds, likely, but change is change nonetheless. Such grand and terrifying energy yearns to be used. Gain the Minor Magic feat, and your Pariah Gene power no longer prevents you from gaining ranks in magic schools. Whenever you convince someone to act on their emotions in a destructive manner - throwing tantrums, starving themselves in melancholy, etc. - rather than a constructive one, you can convert a point of Resonance back into Essence. Scourge Shard Not even the C'tan were proof against ravages of the mind... at least one is said to have turned upon its fellows, devouring them whole in an attempt at concentrating its power. Gain the Hatred feat, targeting a group of your choice. Each time you attack a member of a group you have Hatred for, you gain +1k0 to Intimidation rolls made against other members of that group who witnessed the attack. Whenever you leave a foe you have Hatred for alive and unharmed at the end of a battle (or convince someone else to do the same for a foe they have Hatred for), you may convert a point of Resonance back into Essence. Fiend Shard As powerful as they were, the C'tan were never said to be straightforward; the phrase "absolute despair" appears many times on tablets that bear words from the War in Heaven. Add your Arcanoi as a bonus to your Mental Defense, and to the amount of Resolve that creatures can lose before becoming jaded to your social attacks during a scene. Whenever you convince someone into listening to you when they otherwise wouldn't, you can convert a point of Resonance back into Essence. Revised Core Version

How about defining the Necrodermis Voidskin (in THIS case at least) as granting the effects of Melee Weapon when used for Unarmed attacks (not just Brawl in general), Armor as well as Bionic Heart? By no means should the crowning achievement of an Exaltation be weak.

Do please note that whatever a Necrodermis Voidskin does, it does so on top of Stuff of Nightmares. That part didn't go away.

...A few bare-bones ideas for additional assets, since Infernals are still on the brain here (maybe they'll finally leave me alone): Juggernaut Shard: Increased Resilience, Armor Plating, or momentum-based bonuses. Cycles Torment by staying the path; an "anti-Fiend," in this regard. (Isidoros) Nemesis Shard: Bonuses for mirroring an opponent, or for fighting someone using their favored tactics, to wit out-fighting a warrior, casting spells against a spellcaster, or engaging Social Combat against a skilled debater. Cycles Torment with declarations of rivalry or by absent mimicry. (Szoreny) Dement Shard: Specific bonuses for fighting Materium OR Warp entities. Cycles Torment by enforcement of boundaries. (Oramus) Monolith Shard: Leadership bonuses. Cycles Torment when acting in the most obvious manner possible. (Mardukth) Edited by Eisenritter, Mar 16 2015, 11:28 PM.

What about a 'Shard Denier', where the character in fact does not commune, as much as he 'grows despite'?

Honestly? I put those up to get them out of my head; I'm not entirely sure I like the idea of an alternate feature having more assets than the core one.

Cherry pick the best ones. I'd suggest going for a bit of diversity. While to some, Scourge, Defiler and Malefactor might be different, to most, they are pretty much the same thing, just stated slightly different. Just create a bunch, since you have no issue doing so, and choose the ones best suited.

malefactor: a person who commits a crime or some other wrong. defiler: one who defiles. +defile: 1. to make foul, dirty, or unclean; pollute; taint; debase. 2. to violate the chastity of. 3. to make impure for ceremonial use; desecrate. 4. to sully, as a person's reputation. scourge: 1. (n) a whip used as an instrument of punishment. 2. (n) a person or thing that causes great trouble or suffering. 3. (v) to whip (someone) as punishment. 4. (v) cause great suffering to. That being said, I'm keeping to Infernal castes for the assets. Expect more that I'll change out the Torment-cycling parts than anything else... should I consider replacing Feeding? |
