So Highwind made an exaltation, T_A made a different exaltation, Eisenritter made some edits to it, and they both got into book 3 despite stepping on each other's toes. Then it all went to shit and I started from square 1.

the crunch of those for something we can borrow. anything you want to highlight?
The big thing would be the fallout system, which allows magical residue to build up until it bursts (what the system is named for) with disasterous random-table consequences. You get OC in situations where you intentionally push yourself harder (using an ability or just to roll extra dice) and can get them accidentally when you roll a 6 (it's a d6 system) though the dice also explode so it's cool. The random tables have a lot of bad effects that happen to the immediate area or your girl and the severity (and permanence) depend on the amount of OC.

I also looked through the book last night. I was already expecting grimdark magical girls, but some of the stuff in the book still caught me by surprise.

Perhaps Fallout can work like Motes and Paradox from the Atlantean? Fallout (which I want to call Overflow here) builds up after using enough Drops, and needs to be safely drained outside of combat. I wouldn't make the consequences of Fallout/Overflow instant degeneration, but there should be some negative effect from letting it fester in you. Being a hero can hurt, after all.

Going to look through Princess later for more ideas.

Hmm, a system similar to Paradox/Resonance sounds like it would emulate that pretty well. My only concern at that point is are we going back to the same well too often? Especially with the Demiurge using the same mechanic.

I'm honestly not sure Demiurge needs the mechanic, I'd take it away from Demiurge before taking it from magical girls.

Why can't it just be some mechanic to let spell-slinging fonts Push their spells further (an amount of pushed dice equal to their Channel or something)? There's already rules in place for magic catastrophically backfiring, and some sort of background count mechanic sounds a little fiddly for a specific type of an Exaltation that's already pretty fiddly.

I like this take on it, or at least something in the vein, pushing more psychic phenomena and/or perils rolls on a player but not making it inherent to the resource stat. I'm not sure if I want this to be part of overflowing magic as a twist on buffing magic, or if I want to try and wedge it on top of overflowing power as that's the "bad power for good means" type asset. I think it definitely has some merit with the exaltation, but it's really more inherent to dark magical girls, and maybe some particularly grimdark takes on other transforming heroes. There's plenty of magical girls where absolutely nothing bad happens from their powers and even then I don't want to front-load magical girls any more than toku or western henshin.

I just finished updating the book 1 enemies, I have some ideas I need to let grow out and I think this can find a middle ground.

Updated first post to use super mode as in book 3 (wasn't married to second gear anyway) renamed the shooty and OP assets. Touched up the grammar on overflowing magic.

I'm torn about this psychic phenomenon/Magical fallout/dark transformation thing. I like it as a mechanic, but I'm thinking of putting it on the newly dubbed overflowing energy asset. This is already a pretty heavy asset.

I also like the null critical damage asset as a concept, but I feel like it doesn't mesh with pretty much anything. I don't know if on its own it's good enough to be just a standalone asset (or hinderance even?) but I'm wanting to drop it just for cohesion.

Perhaps you could make an asset (Possibly called Overflowing Restraint) that's entire schtick is beating people into submission so you can use Power of Friendship (getting bonuses from that), possibly also throwing in some general buff abilities (flavored as rousing speeches or whatever).

Edited overflowing strength to remove free brawling weapon, this stacked with the +1k1 to melee and the sum total of the feat was better than a powerfist, which is trying to be a baseline. After looking through the magic sections of book 1 and 2, only about three touch spells are useful as attacks, and mostly deal damage anyway, so it should already work with them.

Took some extra fluff out of push it to the limit for the sake of publishing.

Dropped crit damage clause from overflowing energy, added something akin to fallout, I hope. this asset feels really wordy, I hope it's worth it and not just OP.

Considering overflowing restraint/mercy/friendship/something as a new place for the crit damage nullifier (this will also give us six "rangers" which I appreciate asthetically). The possibility of it just being a flat asset, not tied to an exaltation was brought up on /tg/, dunno how that might work.

Roll it into Power of Friendship where it synergizes. It seems to be a staple of the genre...
