the attack costs are based on the costs for basic advantages of sword schools. by this metric, pen should cost 25 xp, but dicing up exp to multiples of five rather than 50 for one specific purpose seems stupid, and only allowing for even pen seems awkward. also i know sword schools have some inbuilt limits that this system doesn't but pretty much all of the attack rules were shot from the hip when i realized i had nothing. they should at least have a scaling cost like characteristics and skills, definitely. this would possibly address the issue of 10kX providing a shortcut to damage as well.

for feats, it's a fair point about level restricting them, but a bigger job than I think this system wants. I might set a hard limit on feats, but realistically I see it as a demon we have to live with unless someone has a specific solution.

I agree with you in theory about trait exclusivity, but in practice this is DtD and I would love to see some flying daemonic mechanical undead tieflings come out if this, so i think i just have to cite philosophical differences.

eisenritter's point about overshooting budgets seems pretty on the nose, even just based on my quick counts of the first page dramatis personae. halving or quarting the scale is my first instinct. having it increment per level rather than double is my second. most likely both, but i want to fix attacks and budget for gear then recount myself first.

@Attacks: Fair points. On the matter of penetration, it might work to give more than one point of the stuff per purchase, but I dunno.

@Feats: Basically agreed.

@Traits: Eh, true enough. Point retracted there, then.

...I'm not entirely sure, but I think I could max out every skill as well as two or three more magic schools for the Monad on that budget...

Monodrone modron: 7600 + abilities
Duodrone 12750 + abilities

I'm going to dial back the exp pools now. also tweaked attack damage dice

How are we going to treat gaining weapons? Not just natural attacks but actual guns and swords and things.

XP cost by rarity maybe?

that's my plan, along with other items (notably armor) but I haven't contemplated what the price range should be. I'll probably reference the inheritence background's item/dot scale for a reference.

added loose rules for Gear. might be really underpriced.

The only thing I can really suggest for it is that MRare items should be 250 to sync up with the Inheritance chart (as it changes to 100 XP per dot in a Background for dots past 3).

Bump so this gets in the book so the Summoner gets in the book.

The thing about a monster creation system that would be most helpful for me as a GM would be if it's fast. Anybody can take the character creation rules and build a statblock with them. What if characteristics and skills had a flat cost, 250XP per characteristic/magic school and 150 per skill/size? It encourages having a lot more extreme stats, but isn't that what monsters are all about?

It would also be nice to have adjective-style templates like in FantasyCraft that could be slapped onto existing monsters for a large XP cost. For instance:

Zombie (250 XP)
Undead, Mindless, Fear (1)

Laser-Eyes (1,000 XP)
Laser-Eyes (40m; S/-; 3k2 E; Pen 0; Twin-Linked)

Cyborg (1,200 XP)
+1 Constitution, +1 Crafts/Tech-Use, Machine (4), 2 Uncommon Bionics, Ranged Attack becomes Integrated

...of Khorne (1,500 XP)
+2 Weaponry, +1 Strength/Constitution, Resource Stat (Favor), Frenzy, Hatred (Sorcerers), Power Attack, Powerful Charge, Furious Assault

So, a Zombie Cyborg Laser-Eyes Ratling of Khorne would cost 3,950 XP and have the following stats:

3 3 4 - - - - 3 2
Skills Acrobatics 2, Perception 2, Common Lore 3, Deceive 2, Scrutiny 1, Weaponry 3, Larceny 3, Ballistics 1, Crafts 1, Tech-Use 1
Speed 6
Size/Resilience 2/3
Static Defense 22
Mental Defense 15
HP/Resolve 12/4
Feats Weapon Proficiency (Ordinary, Parrying), Sneak Attack, Machine (4), Bionic Arms, Resource Stat (Favor; 3), Frenzy, Hatred (Sorcerers), Power Attack, Powerful Charge, Furious Assault
Armor Machine Toughness (4 AP; All)
Attacks Knife (4k2 R; Pen 0), Laser-Eyes (40m; S/-; 3k2 E; Pen 0; Twin-Linked)
Abilities
Shifty – As the Halfling racial power.
Gear Threadbare clothing, Knife, a few coins.
