Samurai; Let's face it, it was going to happen eventually.

Samurai are a more Social Paladin, a bit of a Social Tank in the same way a Paladin is a Holy Tank. I think Discipline is very fitting for that. Furthermore, Samurais and the like are always going on about Disciprine. I certainly don't think they should lose it.

You have a point there. Perhaps we can set it up as making you choose between Sound Constitution OR Discipline? It'd kill two birds with one stone. If not, I say we remove a few Sound Constitution(s) to make the feat count more reasonable.

If we're making the Paladin parallels, we can throw in Armor Specialization at the last level.

Looking over it again, Strong Minded isn't really doing it for this class either.

I made an alternative to the current Samurai. Almost everything is intact except that I changed the wording on the Completion Bonus, removed Sound Constitution, replaced Hatred (Criminals) with Hatred (Any), added Weapon Proficiency (Any) to Level 2, and replaced Strong Minded with Armor Specialization (Any).

Alternate Samurai

Post it in a new thread, change the class names and proclaim it the Ronin class track.

I like the way you think. I'd probably have to change the nobility related feats to criminal ones, though. Know any good Ronin names?

If we make a new class every time we disagree on feat distribution, shit's gonna get real messy. It discourages collaboration and bloats what's already a massive body of content.

Well shit, you have a point there. I'm just going to wait for Eisenritter to reply before doing anything I might end up having to undo later.

EDIT: Changed the level completion on my Alternate Samurai to just a Parry bonus, as not to step on the Fighter's toes.

If it is just minor changes then that is true. If it is major changes to both the function and flavor of the class, I would say it does deserve its own line.

Making the class go from an honorabu, social tank respected by many and hating foul ruffians to a brooding, katana wielding ruffian itself seems like a big enough alteration to merit its own class line. Replacing Discipline with Sound Constitution and perhaps switching out a few other feats for Improved Feint and Sneak Attacks would give you a class that would be taken by a very different character build. Instead of a Social Tank combo, you end up with a Stealth-Tank combo and a different fluff flavor to match.

The best part is that since they operate so differently, you end up with a class someone might mix and match or that different people would take for different reasons. You might have a party with both the Samurai and the Ronin in it, performing their separate functions without really stepping on each others toes.

Also Weredrago2, I would recommend you make it +2 for parry if you're going to remove the attack bonus. Since you normally divide Parry attempts by 2 before adding to static defense, it would keep it more in line with the bonus the Rogue gets which is just +1 static defense.
Since Improved Feint blocks the enemies ability to Parry at all if successful, perhaps a feat that lets you use Sneak Attack on enemies that you successfully parry?

I could dig a tanky melee fighter that dips into skullduggery. I'm not going to bother with making any new feats for it, though.

I'll make a new thread for it.

Samurai has exactly one more required feat than Paladin at Level 3 and again at Level 5. I see no problem with this.

Strong Minded is fine. Mental focus does in fact make it easier to resist outside influence.

Hatred will remain as is. Armor Specialization was deemed unnecessary, especially as it should be relatively easy to dip into something that does get it.
