The Spheres of Autochthon and Equestria exist. That means Eternia must exist. 80s rejoice. |

What would He-Man be, a Paragon? I still need to do that Equestrian Sphere. |

He-Man is a Magical Girl. Skeletor is a Daemonhost. |

That invokes the mental image of He-Man's head poorly photoshopped onto a small anime girl's neck. Suffice to say, I find this hilarious.

I'll be flat out honest. The entire reason I started reviewing the big book of brew was because I found it fucking stupid and retarded. It was full of idiotic races and half-brained exaltions. I started with the exaltions and reviewed their mechanics just to prove how stupid they were. Thankfully a few of them managed to cool my head and actually impress me. Some still irk me. Hell, I'll be honest, back when the big book of brew was made, I couldn't even get past the races. They were so fucking stupid, I gave up. It didn't help that there was a shit-ton of size bloat in that original set of races, and it really soured my opinion when defenders of it came along and said "We want monstrous races." They argued that specific fluff demands would mean that poor mechanics must be printed in the book. I was so off-put by it, that I stepped away from the book for quite some time thinking you guys were a bunch of monkeys on typewriters, flinging shit and calling it Shakespeare. If I didn't get so pissed off that I would attempt to systemically tear the entire homebrew apart and say "This is all shit," I wouldn't have found the actually good content. I had thrown it all away, and there's plenty of people who would do less. Anyway, the two biggest flaws for the big book of brew is this: Raw size and Quality Control. Thankfully Quality Control is being enforced more. Sadly "raw size" is not nearly as much. Dividing the books by content might seem like the solution, but it isn't. It only divides the chapters into PDFs of content. Also I find "You can just pick and choose" to be an idiotic defense of content. I could "pick and choose" in any rpg system, that's not a good defense for putting joke content next to serious content. Jokes are fine, but a joke should stay a joke sometimes. (I'm saying call lel: the sourcebook "The Big Book o' Brew and release it on April 1st.) |

A deliberately stupid mispelling of "lol". Kwak, weredrago, and others have been calling a potential book of joke content "LeL: the Splatbook" |

Well, at least you're being honest. Could you name specific things that you would and would not like to have in the Big Book of Brew and why? Divergent, 'lel' is a corruption of 'lol'. Some shitposters refer to Dungeons: The Dragoning as 'lel: the game' due to its variety of content allowing for very off the wall games. Edited by weredrago2, Feb 17 2016, 04:46 PM.

I think it's really unfortunate that the races have to go first. As mentioned before they're low effort, highly fluff-based and subjective, and imply the most about a setting. 60% of, say, the Ferran, is purely the concept "Hey what if we had little fast furries in the game" so the majority of feedback/reaction to that content is just gonna be value judgments about people's taste. Whereas, like, the Baller is the complete opposite where it's all crunch and the fluff lives inside there. People are a lot less likely to be like "omg spess jam wtf" because there aren't 5 paragraphs explaining what a B-Ball is, just crunch you can infer either Wakka or Barkley or some other sports fighter dude. So races will always be the most inflammatory, divisive, and unproductive thing to talk about. And because that's where the book starts, everything instantly goes to shit. If we want to have better reception/turnout (Which maybe we don't care, but then why do we keep making so many chan threads?) then we might need to consider putting them under harder scrutiny than the rest of the book on our end.
I agree. The obvious two-birds-one-stone response to this is to get more selective. But that's ultimately up to the guy making the PDF, who has decided long ago that it will indeed be a Big Book of Brew. So all I can really do on my end is limit my own input. With that in mind, I think I'm going to keep the Ferran forum-only, but still finish it. Otherwise, I can't in good conscience say things like "we sure have a size problem, let's cut unpopular races". Be the change, and all that. |

I'm going to go ahead and start making a Google Doc for all of the joke material. Somebody make a list of all of the material we want to include in it. |
