I'm a bad person, and I know it, but I made Wombles. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Wombles The history of the Wombles is a checkered one. Originally, they lived in harmony with nature on a jungle-world, but when this world was colonised by gnomes and humans, the Wombles went into hiding on their own homeworld. They quickly became expert scavengers and salvagers, using what they found lying around and adapting it for their own needs. The planet became a contradiction: heavily industrialised and yet neat and orderly with it. Being naturally curious about the craft the non-native inhabitants of their world used, enterprising Wombles snuck onto these craft while their owners were not present, and left for (or, more accurately, were taken to) exotic pastures new. It is only recently that a few Wombles have made their way to Arborea and made contact with the elves, who they sense are fellow protectors of nature. Wombles are peaceful, secretive sophonts who look rather similar to humanoid badgers, possessing fur, a pointed snout and retractable claws for digging. They are herbivorous, with a particular fondness for fungi, and can digest cellulose, making their diets rather different to those of most intelligent species. They tend to have a relatively poor opinion of most non-sapient animal species, although they are never unkind to them. They also have a poor opinion of polluting races (such as squats, gnomes and humans), who they view as raping their own biosphere. Their young are not given names at birth, instead choosing a name from an atlas or other book of maps after reaching working age, which occurs after a period of communal education. Wombles have a high life expectancy, expecting to reach old age at around 200, although some exceptional individuals have been known to reach 300 with their mental facilities intact. |

Where's the rest? I like what you have so far, but it's a little WIP. |

Physical Characteristics: Average height: 1.1 - 1.3 m Average weight: 35 - 40 kg Common personality traits: Secretive, peace-loving, polite, honest, hard-working. Common physical traits: White or brown fur, plump, retractable claws, sturdy, clean and neat Example names: Bracada, Bulgaria, Celephaïs, Esgaroth, Ix, Tashbaan Racial Statistics: Characteristic bonus: +1 to Constitution or Intelligence Skill bonus: +1 to Crafts and Stealth Languages: Trade and Womble Size 3 Power: Making Good Use - Most races need decent tools and materials to make things. Wombles learn to make do with improvised tools and sub-standard materials. You get a free raise on all Crafts tests, and all tools you use count as one quality category better (with SM discretion). Racial feats: Underground, Overground [Paragon] - Wombles have retractable claws for digging. Yours happen to be stronger and sharper than most. You gain a natural weapon with the following stats: 1k1 R; Pen 1. Wombles are Organised - Wombles work well together, even with other races. Your bonus for Ganging Up at the two-to-one level is +2k0, and at the three-to-one level is +2k1. Wombles are Clean - Wombles are, while not obsessive groomers, good at keeping themselves and their belongings clean, neat and tidy, and this extends to their weapons. If a weapon you fire would jam, roll a d10. On a 9, it merely misses instead. You also get a free raise to social tests where a neat and clean appearance would make a good impression or otherwise help. Edited by Marr965, Mar 24 2016, 02:06 AM.

Looks like you're done posting. Okay, peer review time. The introduction to the race is a little on the long side. You can take parts of the intro and put it in the Physical Qualities and Playing As sections. Personality Traits, Physical Traits, and Example Names are supposed to be in groups of 5, if I remember right. I don't actually know much about Wombles, but giving them Darksight seems like something for a racial feat. Perhaps you could switch it with Making Good Use? Speaking of Making Good Use, it looks like its a little on the strong side. I don't know. Seems funny. Wombles are Organized should not allow for keeping more dice. +1k1 is bad enough by itself, but +2k2 is crazy. How about +2k0 for 2 to 1, and +3k0 (or possibly +2k1) for 3 to 1? |

I think that the Racial Paragon Asset should be called Wombling Free and give a boost to escape Snares and suchlike. |

Example heroes: Argosy is an oddity among Wombles: he's been cybernetically enhanced. In fact, the enhancements are so extensive that he's more machine than Womble. He only agreed to the procedures he went through because it was elves offering them. He is having a little trouble reconciling his new appearance and abilities with his love of nature, but he's more than willing to put one to use in service of the other. Sto is, even by the standards of Wombles, extremely long-lived. This is mainly due to a... condition which has also changed his diet. By his own reckoning, he's had five different names and gone through three different mysterious disappearances, mainly because other Wombles in his assorted burrows couldn't work out why he wasn't eating at mealtimes and never went outside during the day. However, with the revelation of the existence of Wombles to the elves, he has become a little less secretive and a little more integrated into extra-Wombular society. Orchyre has been experiencing changes lately, a few mundane, but mostly of the shapeshifter-y type. She's not quite used to the concepts of turning into a wolf, and most of the Wombles in her burrow haven't even seen a wolf before. That said, she's more than willing to put her life on the line to protect nature. Maybe Luna has recognised this? |

I'll look at shuffling some of my fluff around, trimming bits to stick into the playstyle guidance blurb. I hadn't realised that example names and such were in groups of five; the version I have of core has traits in groups of five and names in groups of six. I'll think about fiddling with my racial power and feats. Making Good Use is difficult to balance right now because we have no real crafting system, and anything I put together is likely to be full of flaws, so that if I balanced it for that, people would go "but that's wrong". Having taken a quick look at how roll-and-keep tends to give results, I'm fully in agreement that Wombles Are Organised is overpowered. I'll change it. I'd like to keep it being competitive, so I think it'll go to 2k1 for the higher Ganging Up bonus, but if that winds up looking too powerful I'm open to 3k0. |

You get it, don't you? I like the idea of it being called Wombling Free, but I'm not sure about escaping traps - not really a Womble thing, you know? |

I meant it more as a pun on the 'Free' part, as in not captured or confined. I can't remember much about the Wombles other than their name, general appearance, voices and the opening of the theme tune. It has been over a decade since I last saw them. |
