Is D:tD not deadly enough for you? Do you wish Sneak Attacks actually killed the enemies who were hit with them? Do your characters ever try to sleep in the face of danger? Check it out: COUP DE GRÂCE Half Action Subtype: Attack, Melee, Ranged, Provokes A character may only use this action against a target who cannot dodge or parry their attack. The character may use this action against targets who are unaware of them, characters who are unconscious, or have their back turned and are not aware that an attack is being made. This cannot be used against a target that is engaged in melee. If using a ranged weapon to make this attack, the attack must be made from point blank range and gains no bonuses for range, however the attack does incur any penalties that may apply for the attack. If made with a melee or brawling weapon (including unarmed,) the target must be no more than 1 meter away. The active character must make a Brawl, Weaponry, or Ballistics test with a -2k1 penalty against the Static Defense of the target. If successful, the active character rolls damage as normal, however this attack bypasses the target's Hit Points and halves the target's Resilience, rounding up. Damage from a coup de grâce deals damage to either the target's head or gizzards, chosen at the time of the attack by the active character. A hero may spend a Hero Point to negate this attack. Enemies that are unconscious are considered Helpless, and thus are always automatically hit for double damage. I say that Coup set up you suggested seems a bit too deadly to be honest, overvaluing stealth for getting your murder on. A Wraith for instance could float underground underneath someone and use the action on them. I think leaving it up to the Storyteller is probably best; there is actually some example of this in the Example of Play section in the first book:

I had no idea about double damage, tbh. I can see how this would be unnecessary. I'm needlessly anal, and had a character try to "shoot the hostage" in the brain with a lasgun, but the damage just seemed minimal. But now that I know about that, I see that this measure is entirely unnecessary. I'd like to leave it up for posterity's sake, however. Someone may have use of it in the far-flung future. You never know. |
