The Swarm![]() Static Powers Hive queen: You loose union equal to half of any wounds you take (round down), and your resilience is reduced by 2 (to a minimum of 1) when calculating damage to the gizzards. Multiple piece golem: Double your constitution for the purpose of determining hit-points, and you ignore the nonlethal effects of critical damage. Thousand lives form: Attacks you take hit the body unless they roll a 7 on the hit location table. You always count as ganging up 2 to 1 in melee. At Community 3 this becomes 3 to 1. Re-form: you may spend up to your community in union as a half-action to relocate one dot among your physical characteristics per union spent. Taking a characteristic above 5 with this ability is undone after Level+community rounds. Buying physical characteristic dots is 3 times as expensive Power stat: Community- A measure of how organized the masses of your body are. Resource stat: Union = Composure+Level+Community. You regain 1 union every 10 minutes. Tell: Bees, bricks, or whatever you're made of start swirling about around you as your body unravels itself. Gained Powers 1. Release the swarm: you may spend union to gain minions equal to the amount spent. Their threat and damage ratings are equal to your community, and they have an impact melee weapon. your minion squads may split and merge as a half action, and their maximum group size is equal to 5+community. 2. Alter Formation: you can spend 2 Union reshape your body into various terrain features (at SM discretion) or create non-artifact uncommon rarity or lower weapons as a full action for a scene. 3. Rebuild: Spending union for an effect that restores your HP restores an additional hit point, and you regain 1 HP every hour. 4. Fortify: You may spend 3 Union as full-action to give yourself or an ally Community*2 AP for a scene. This armor may stack, but only at a quarter (round up) rate. 5. Re-construct: when using Re-form you may spend 2 Union to change your current race and appearance. You can only use the racial power and feats of your current race, and your languages and skills don't change. Composition Assets: Foo Fighters- You're made of plankton, or some equivalent. you and your minions from release the swarm gain amphibious and can breath underwater. You may recover one hit point by drinking a gallon of water as a half action. At Community 4 you can also recover 1 hit point by basking in sunlight for an hour, and drinking water also restores one union. Construction project- Your form makes for surprisingly good building materials. You are healed with crafts instead of medicae, and with Alter Formation you can become vehicles with a budget of 40*community VP. At Community 4 you may become holdings(2) buildings using the Construction Rules and vice versa for 4 Union over an hour. Granfalloon- You can still be hit in all 7 hit locations, but you only loose union from hive queen when hit in the gizzards. At Community 4 you may create rare and very rare weapons using Alter Formation for 4 Union, and creating uncommon or lower rarity weapons only takes a half-action. Biocluster- you and your minions gain 1 trait from the improved/wild shape feats, and you may change it by spending a union. At Community 4 you both gain a second trait. Nanites- You and your minions no longer need to eat, sleep, or breathe, and are immune to environmental hazards. You reduce your Resilience by 1 (to a minimum of 1) when calculating damage from weapons with Shocking and are knocked out if hit with an E.M.P. At Community 4, you and your minions may take control of vehicles and creatures with the Machine trait up to twice your size by rolling Level+Community against their static defense. Pilots and constructs may make an opposed tech-use test to regain control.

Ok a couple edits made to address minion mobs being underpowered as well as the slow resource regain. Had to mess with some of the assets afterwards but hopefully all's well that ends well. Edit round 2.0 Removed the "extra crit damage" bit and fixed some phrasing/typos. altered the resource regain system so you don't get infinite free healing, and I altered rebuild to grant a more reliable means of union regain instead of rapid healing during combat. Speaking of, I switched rebuild and fortify. not because I feel fortify should be put off longer, rather, I just thing Swarms should be able to get an effective means to get resource back. Hopefully it's offset by the fact that yeah, it can be lost really easily as well, and you use union for most of your abilities. Edited by Scrapyard_Dragon, Oct 14 2017, 05:45 PM.

I really love this concept, being the Pain is the most ridiculous thing ever. I'm going to give my thoughts to how it currently is, with quotes so if anything is changed no one is confused about what I'm talking about. Feedback I hope you keep updating this as time goes on. I am very interested in this Exaltation, and want to see it in play one day. Edited by Lestat, Oct 23 2017, 08:16 PM.

Hey, thanks for the feedback new guy, I'll be sure to get on it. in regards to re-construct specifically the idea is that you only have the racial powers/feats of the race you currently exist as. so if you started as a dryad, then turned into a tiefling, bloody minded would replace your previous racial power and the racial feats would be inactive until you switched back. I'll try and redo the grammar on that one. your points on rebuild are valid so I'm gonna limit it to just physical skills, though in regards to derived statistics there are other things that also need to recalculate them for what thats worth. not sure how to rebalance minion mobs in general so that they scale well but I'm gonna add a fellowship limit to how many can be directly controlled then. I'd go on but it's kinda late and I wrote this whole thing practically overnight so I'm glad to get feedback to revise it into something that isn't a broken mess. changing how resource regain works is also gonna be added onto the to-do list, not sure what to go with yet though. |

Well for spitballing resource generation ideas hornets, and bees have hives that work as factories and require time for workers to hatch, nanites can have dedicated workers as well, and anything else can just have a refinement facility. You could have a physical object that needs time out of combat to generate resource points, and have the swarm need to return to the hive/colony/breeding ground to regain any resource points the hive has. This would be comparable to Wraiths returning to the Umbra, although Wraiths can do a lot of broken shit, and get a million Resolve/Plasm, it's more of a way to try and limit Wraiths than improve them. |

Pretty good, I definitely imagine an ork swarm both mechanically due to ganging up and HP shenanigans and for the fact that a swarm of bees making ork noises instead of be noises would be hilarious |

Woah baby big update cycle this go around. First up is something I should have done a long time ago: Reform only works on physical characteristics. Didn't make sense that it wasn't that way already but hey, it's solved now. Secondly, and probably the most important, I've changed how resource regain works. You now get 1 point back every 10 minutes. Not sure if it's better or worse balance wise, but it's simpler and much harder to abuse. With the change to resource regain, Rebuild is much simpler. Spending union for any self-healing effect nets you one additional HP. Only 1 though, so it's only efficient if you do it slowly for all you cheeky blokes who want to abuse healing spells. It also restores 1 HP every hour. Alter-formation no longer requires spending union to reload. Have fun gunslingers. Fortify is now a full-action, and while it's confirmed stacking, it's only either 2 AP or 3 AP, depending on your power stat. Fixed a minor typo in Foo fighters to account for a re-naming of one of the stock powers, and did a few changes to account for the rework to resource regen. Drinking the gallon of water is now defined as a half action, and you only need one gallon (the previous version needed 2). I feel this is appropriate given that it would otherwise be nerfed due to mechanic changes. Thirdly, once you get to PS 4 drinking water will also restore a union, so hey, at high levels it's better than it was before. Due to this change I'm considering removing the sunlight bit as well, idk, that one is up to whatever further feedback I get. Granfalloon got a minor buff. At community 4 making uncommon or less items only takes a half action now. As always, further input is appreciated (especially names. the current ones suuuuck but I don't have anything better for 'em yet.) |
