![]() Homebrew Exaltation - Aria The Great Wheel is a vast expanse that reflects the passions and desires of those that inhabit it. It is also a cruel place home to daemons, and heartless warring gods. In such a grim darkness many find themselves looking for a reprieve from the rigors of everyday life. Arias are guides for a people with no spirit. With their otherworldy voices, and soulful renditions they alter the very fabric of reality with their music. Composers, and popstars might hook an audience with a catchy tune, but only an Aria can bring a Dragon to weep stirring the memories of a long lost love with a familiar song, cause longstanding enemies to hold hands in solidarity, or topple an unjust regime with a single note. Powers: Magical Soundtrack: When you begin play you gain one Soundtrack from the Soundtrack table, and you gain another each time you increase your Rhythm. Soundtracks are a special genre of magical music that an Aria can perform live, which requires no action to maintain. Anyone who can hear your music is subject to any applicable effects from your current Soundtrack, although it must be a live performance to have any effect, ending when you fall unconscious. You may only play one Soundtrack at a time, and you must spend a half action to change a Soundtrack to a different one. Magic Music: An Aria may weave magic, and music into one transcendent experience. When you cast any spell you may use Rhythm + Fellowship in place of the normal Focus Power test. When you cast a spell in this manner you add the verbal, and remove the language dependent keywords from any spells cast as you fill the air with potent music. Artifact Instrument: You have one artifact instrument that takes a form of your choosing. It could be a microphone, a turntable, a hoverpiano, or any other instrument you can think of. It counts as an implement for spells cast using Magic Music, and you may integrate one Recital weapon into your Artifact Instrument which gains +1k1 damage, and +4 Pen. It requires no power to loudly broadcast your current Soundtrack to everyone around, and it is capable of linking up to other speakers to spread your Soundtrack far and wide. Any sound, including Magic Music, and Soundtracks that come directly from your Artifact Instrument can not be rendered silent via magic, passes through any material or the vacuum of space as if it was air, and is able to affect deaf creatures. Musical Savant: You can never become deaf or mute, and you may go up to 6 dots in Fellowship, and Performer. Additionally you may make a social combat test using Performer + Fellowship to instill an emotion upon a listener, or to convince a listener to act on their current emotion. Power Stat: Rhythm An Aria's Rhythm represents their growth on an internal pilgrimage to discover the secrets of music. An Aria might listen to a single song one thousand times, or a thousand songs one single time and learn just as much. When an Aria's Rhythm increases phantom notes, and hidden meanings begin to become clear as the Aria becomes further able to hear the tempo of the universe. Resource Stat: Beats. Arias have a number of Beats equal to their Rhythm + Fellowship + Performer Skill. Once per day an Aria may perform a concert to restore their lost Beats. They must spend at least 1 hour performing. At the end of the concert they make a Performer + Fellowship test against TN 15 to regain 1 Beat plus 1 for each raise. They also gain 2 Beats each time they perform a stunt to solve a problem with music instead of a more conventional solution.
Soundtrack Table ![]() Aria Assets A Capella You do not begin play with an Artifact Instrument, your voice gains all the benefits it would provide, and you may absorb the essence of a Recital weapon to integrate it to your natural form. Melee Recital weapons take a -0k1 penalty to damage, but gain the Brawling special property. Ballistic weapons operate the same as normal, but you do not need to bring ammunition to reload, you simply spend actions to clear your throat for the reload duration. Additionally you gain a +1k1 bonus to any Social Combat test that involves the use of your voice. Galactic DJ You gain an additional Soundtrack when you begin play, and you gain an extra one each time you increase your Rhythm. Idol You gain one dot in Fame or Followers, and again each time you improve your Rhythm to a maximum of 5. You may use Fame in place of Wealth, Backing, or Holdings to maintain your Followers, and you can always find your followers in any city you go to up to 1/5th the population, limited by your maximum number of followers. You may also take the Appearance asset for no XP cost. Osbourne Effect Gain an extra raise on Addiction tests, and tests to resist the effects of drugs. Treat Wealth tests to acquire drugs as being one step lower. You gain an additional two Beats from a concert if you perform while high. If a drug only has immediate effects it also renders you high for an hour afterwards. You can never benefit from the Decadence feat, and you consider it optional in any class track. Spoony Bard You begin play with the Jack of All Trades feat, the Education asset, and you may advance any skill or characteristic as if it appeared in your class track. ![]() Aria: Music of the Soul Aria Physical Features Arias do not suffer any kind of curse, or command great physical strength. Despite this many Arias are physically fit, and are visually attractive. Depending on the culture they come from, and the genre of their music their attire can be formal, and contemporary, or wild and flashy. To keep the interest of the crowd many Arias never wear the same clothes twice. While not on concert Arias are very conscious of their looks as there is often paparazzi looking to get the latest scoop. Staying on top of their game constantly can be a great stress to uphold, which is why there are some Arias that shy away from the limelight, keeping their powers to themselves until they are forced to use them to alter destiny. Aria Tells The tell of an Aria is of course auditory rather than visual. At one resource point spent those nearby can make a TN 20 Perception test to notice the supernatural nature of the Aria's music. With two to three points spent onlookers find themselves drawn to the music, fighting their fear of the situation with a burning desire to listen in. At four to five points spent there is often a roaring crowd that begins to build given the population of the environment. At six points and beyond the entire social structure of the sphere is on fire with recordings, and streams of your performance being shared far and wide. Becoming an Aria Arias are not born, nor are they chosen. Arias are forged out of passion and circumstance. A young child playing a pipe or fiddle by a lake, and a demented old man trying to remember the keys on a piano are equally as likely to form the connection required to become an Aria. When the emotional peak of a person crosses with a musical desire an Aria is born. Even if music was not a major part of the Aria's life beforehand, it becomes the cornerstone of their life afterwards. They find peace, wisdom, knowledge, and purpose through their newfound powers, and they seek out more as if it was second nature. The change also bring about a deeper emotional understanding for others, allowing the Aria to waltz around social situations with ease. ![]() Playing an Aria Arias are an open canvas waiting for a personality to complete it. From religious rocker, or rebel activist all the way to thug rappers, or serine sopranos, the Aria requires a direction to focus its abilities. As they hold great interpersonal skills they often fit right in no matter where they go. While not fighting the Aria is often the life of the party, and their music opens many doors a calculating debater remains barred from. Arias are often highly famous, and decently wealthy due to their natural ability to garner adoration as well as a paycheck. This level of fame can make an Aria an easy target for those that would wish to do harm, but the numerous avenues their fame can take them far exceed the downsides. A single autograph, or selfie can have secrets disclosed, deals settled, and debts waived. Arias in Game Arias provide a huge number of ways to play. Their strengths are their ability to affect the entire battlefield, and their versatility. An Aria can be played without ever attacking with their Artifact Instrument, or ever casting a single spell. They are very likable due to their heightened Fellowship which allows them to easily gloss over social situations. An Aria can be used to supplement any deficiencies in a group of Exalted as they are open to all roles. An Aria's greatest weakness is their high usage of Resource points for their powers. They can easily expend their maximum number of points per round before becoming completely dry. Their passive abilities must be stretched in order to facilitate this burst of activity. Feats and spells that require resource points to be spent can be moderately difficult for an Aria to upkeep, and an Aria must get reasonable narrative downtime as they need free time to regain their Beats. ![]() Aria Culture Arias in the Great Wheel live in a society with other highly famous individuals far above the aspirations of any mortal. Arias are at times worshiped as idolized almost like a god. They have spats with lovers, have deals go up in flames, and go through mental breakdowns all on a universal stage, the lives of an Aria magnified by a galactic audience. The drama in the life of an Aria can create as many detractors as followers as others roll their eyes at the public display so many subscribe to. Despite the bemusing theatre Arias command great clout across many spheres, and many an upstart performer have had their hopes and careers dashed by an unkind Aria. Adapting Arias Arias are heavily tied to the concepts of music, sound, and emotion. At most one might downplay the musician themes of an Aria and play into their versatility, having them represent a jack of all trades supportive Exaltation. |
