PHILADELPHIA -- The Philadelphia Wings have acquired star transition player Paul Rabil from the Rochester Knighthawks in exchange for forward Dan Dawson, defenceman Paul Dawson and a first-round pick in the 2016 National Lacrosse League Entry Draft. The Wings also picked up transition players Jordan Hall, Joel White, Rob Campbell and a second-round pick in the 2014 draft in the deal. "This trade allows us the opportunity to get the most recognizable player in the sport to join our team," Wings president Michael French said Friday in a release. "Paul Rabil is in the prime of his career and plays a big part in our plans to get younger and more athletic. Paul can play really any position on the field with his speed and power." Rabil, who was drafted second overall in 2008, won a Champions Cup in 2010 with the Washington Stealth. He has been an NLL all-star in every season he has played. Rabil was traded by the Stealth to the Edmonton Rush last February but refused to report to the team. Rabils rights were traded to Rochester last July. A team official confirmed that Rabil is planning to report to Wings training camp. Dan Dawson scored 27 goals and had a career-high 89 assists for a team-leading 116 points last season. The six-time NLL all-star and seven-time NLL All-Pro Selection was the 2009 league MVP with the Boston Blazers. "Just to be part of the defending champs is an honour," said Dan Dawson. "Paul and I are super excited and will do everything we can to keep the Cup in Rochester." His younger brother Paul recorded six assists and recovered 53 loose balls last season. "As an owner, I have developed a personal relationship with the Dawson brothers and it was a difficult decision to move forward with this transaction," said French. "I wanted to be sure if they were going to leave, they were going to be a package deal, so that their family could continue to see them play together." The Knighthawks will kick off the 2013 regular season on Jan. 5 against Washington.
