Created as a sequel set two years past the events of Final Fantasy X, Final Fantasy X-2 takes its players back to the land of Spira. As I pointed out, it's been two years since the final events of Final Fantasy X, and Yuna has become a Sphere Hunter, someone who hunts down spheres that may contain historical memories of Spira's past, with Rikku and Paine. Together with Brother, Buddy and Shinra, they form the Gullwings. The story is mainly set when Yuna finds a sphere that contains a recording of someone who looks like Tidus, and this fulls Yuna's drive to finding more information about who that is.

The world no longer revolves around Yevon and its teachings, but now there are factions that are trying to rise in power through the collective of followers and spheres alike. There's the Youth League, lead by Meyvn Nooj; New Yevon, instructed by Praetor Baralai; and the Machine Faction, created by Gippal. New Yevon and the Youth League fight over spheres detailing Spira's past, as it increases their presence within Spira. The Machine Faction scouts out remains of the past by excavating, and they have their current sights set on Bikanel Desert, unearthing as much as they can that is hidden within the unforgiving sands of the Al Bhed's previous home.

The combat system of Final Fantasy X-2 is different from X. It uses an Active Time Battle combat gauge for the three girls, in Active and Wait Mode. It also uses the job system known as Dresspheres and the Garment Grids, where the girls equip special patterns with socketted spheres that allow them to change their clothing, strengths and abilities. There are dresspheres such as Gunner, Thief, Warrior, Alchemist, Dark Knight, Black Mage, and many more, and there are three special dresspheres, one for each of the girls. There's Floral Fallal for Yuna, Machina Maw for Rikku and Full Throttle for Paine. Each of these requires the girl that is going to change into that dressphere to first change into all of the othere dresspheres on that girl's Garment Grid. After that, pressing L1 in the Dressphere Change screen will morph all of the dresspheres into the special Dressphere for that girl, allowing her to switch the other two combatants out and use the two combatant allies that come with the sphere.

Obtaining new abilities is rather simple this time around. The abilities for each dressphere revolves around a certain AP (or Ability Point) amount, and when that amount is reached, the ability will be learned, and can be used after that. Some abilities will cost as low as 10 AP, whereas the highest amount can be 999. This makes for some tough work in the first time people play, but through the second and third and however many other times you play through it, it can only get easier and easier. One way to gain Ability Points is to kill monsters, which will net you around 1 to 2 AP easily for each monster slain, more or less depending on their type (Chocobos give 0, and certain bosses can give 3 or more). You can also use special abilities within the dressphere, such as Black Mage's Focus or White Mage's Pray, to get an Ability Point for each time it is used. However, sometimes you may not get an AP, like if you're trying to use Pray when everyone is at full health.

The story of Final Fantasy X-2 is divided into 5 chapters, and the world map is instantly accessible. The locations known from Final Fantasy X all make their reappearances (except for special locations like Baaj Temple and Omega Ruins)
and are easy to go to, but some times, given certain events in the location's events, you may not be able to visit them until sometime later (such as after Chapter 2 starts, you will not be able to progress through Luca, or, depending on your choices in Chapter 2, you will not be able to enter Bevelle or Mushroom Rock Road). Along with the numerous events that take place in every location, you also have a Story Progress readout that will appear every time you save. 100% is the best there is, meaning you did everything possible, but most of the time, you will not be able to do this on your own on your first playthrough without some sort of guide, as there are some things that can be easily missed.

Overall, the game is quite a change from Final Fantasy X, but with the little changes here and there such as the combat and job system, the story progress, and two little songs with our little ex-Summoner singing her heart out to the people of Spira, it does its job in still entertaining its players, in one way or another.

It kinda went away from the Final Fantasy X thing, they should've made it a FULL sequel instead of "Ok let's make the sequel...here's the storyline and, oh wait! lets change the gameplay altogether". It's doesn't and it didn't work.

Blegh. This is game was a representation of everything I hate.
1) The gameplay got old. Fast. Just switch jobs, and you're good to go! Too easy, I think.
2) The over abundance of 'Girl Power!' in the game. Made me sick...
3) The stupid "OMG WHERE'S TIDUS?!" plot. He's DEAD. Leave him alone.
4) The last boss...SUCKED.

And yes, that's my two cents on the game.

and that's was the most simple, yet "hit-the-nail-on-the-head" post you'll ever see to describe a game. Yeah the Girl Power" thing was a bit much. If you want that type of thing, go buy Sonic Heroes

See what I mean, if video games we're mean to date, Sonic Heroes and Final Fantasy X-2 would be a match made in heaven.

I thought the battle system was good, but they should've kept the one from X since this is a sequel. I hated the whole girl power thing as said before and why couldn't there be at least one male on the fighting roster.

[align=center]I am sorry but this game was not only a huge let down but a disgrace to the series it was more dress up then anything and the girls became even more annoying if thats possible reminding me much of yuffie in all parts and sequels of ff7 (where you just want her to go the fuck away) though I must admitt the voice acting compared to yuna in part one is much better and she doesnt sound like an option 3 student as much

anyways it is a time passer but even when bored I almost nearly never play it and all of the mini game shit meant to be fun came off as just stupid filler
