Take hold of an epic roleplaying story as you control the character
known as Ari, a rather shy, quiet young boy who lives with his family in
a manor near the village of Tenel. Everyone knows Ari is rather
overshadowed and never speaks up for himself, but this was all about
to change as his father brought home a mysterious bottle one day.
Shortly after that, his life began changing, sure enough, as with a
curse brought on by a ghost onto his sister, Annie, Ari had to become
the servant to the evil spirit that dwelled within the mysterious bottle
his father had brought home, the Reincarnation of the Great Evil King
Gohma, the Evil King Stan! Now the eternal servant of Stan, Ari must
follow his master's orders and help him conquer the world while Stan
regains his powers.

The character design is something that reminded me of Tim Burton's
'Twas the Nightmare Before Christmas, and that drew me into playing it
so many years ago. This is one of those basic text RPGs, in the sense
that everything other than little bits that the narrator may say is in
text. You may still get some little voice effects here and there, but
nothing too grand, if you're swayed by that. The battle system is
turn-based, and the monster design is rather wacky as well. When
your character's turn comes up, battle pauses and you choose one of
four main actions: Fight, Special, Item and Defense. If you choose
Special, you get to choose from the list of skills that that character has
learned through the levels, which may depend on Health (HP), Magic
(MP) or Labor (LP) points.

Field map design is pretty open, you have some narrow paths you can
walk through to explore the paths there, but for the most part, it's set
on main paths from city to city. Monsters on the field appear as red,
white or blue ghosts, which are the general type of monsters you'll be
fighting within this game. And although you play as Ari, you'll gain the
assistance of 5 other party members that will join you as soon as you
get to specific parts within the story. The story itself is pretty nice, but
to me, the three choices that it gives you sometimes for conversation
seem rather unrequired, as some conversational pieces are accepted
with the same response from the other person, no matter which you
choose. You have minor side quests to perform, which is always a
good thing, for the most part. You can perform the Cyphertext
challenge, which is decrypting the puzzle found on the Cyphertext
items you'll acquire in a chain, or you can do a worldwide item delivery
quest, which will start by you getting one item from someone, then
finding someone else with a need for it, trading that for something
else, and then proceeding on until you find someone else who needs
the new item and so on and so forth.

Your ultimate goal in the game is to assist the Evil King Stan with
reclaiming his scattered remains of power and conquering the world,
but don't let that stop you from taking in the beauty of the world, in
its own way, as well as getting a chuckle every now and then at the
design of the non-playable characters. This is an alright game, very
fun if you're into roleplaying games, and the only bad part about it is
the minor loads every now and then when Ari traverses from inside of
a building to outside of it, or from the field map to a city. But don't let
that stop you from enjoying this game, which is what this review is to
help you get a grasp of.

Really good game, weird plot twists and good ol' humor. All of the characters are psychologiclay(sp?) damage an a funny sort of way. I didn't get to finish it since somehow candle wax got all over it and it got screwed up while I was cleaning it. And evil king stan isn't very scary, even to most of the people in the game.
